You’ll Need USD21 CMS Credentials

The Admin URL is:http://www.upsidedown21.org/1.1/admin/usd21_admin_main.php•This URL is NOT public and is obscure for security reasons

CMS Access Guidelines:•You will need to request a username and password from USD21 staff before accessing.•Do not share IT or your credentials with anyone for any reason.•In order to leverage the CMS media player features you’ll likely want FTP access – contact the USD21 staff for an FTP account. FTP credentials, like CMS credentials, are not something you share.

Login and Select “Media Admin”

Then Click “Enter New Media”

Enter the correct information

Click on the Calendar Icon to the right of the Date Field and select the appropriate date (when the lesson/sermon was preached & Recorded).

Enter the title, scripture (optional), and the speaker accordingly.

Speakers are listed in a drop-down list (see screenshot). Please check this list thoroughly to ensure that your speaker is on this drop-down list. If not, see the next slide for instructions on adding a speaker that is not listed in the drop down.

Adding a speaker that is not listed in the speaker drop-down

Be sure you have searched the list carefully and check for spelling, duplicate entries are undesirable.

If you have searched carefully and the speaker does not exist, then enter them in the “New Speaker” field (see screenshot to the left). The system will ignore the “drop-down” speaker, no matter which “Speaker:” is selected and insert the New Speaker upon the submission of this form.

In the example above, “Josiah Smith” would be the “New Speaker:” and the selected speaker, “Tim Kernan” would be ignored. Once this form is completed and submitted, then “Josiah Smith” will be added to the “Speaker:” drop down list. Only do this once for each new speaker.

Selecting “Media Section(s)”

•You can select one OR MORE sections for this media to appear in. •“Order:” means, “what order should this be listed in it’s section?” For example, if you don’t fill anything in “Order:” then the system defaults the order by how old the sermons are. If you had 10 lessons/sermons in a particular section (let’s say “2013 First Principles”) and you number each lesson in the order they should be listed in, you’ll get something like this: • http

://phxicc.org/streaming-media/historical-media-archives/2013-first-principles/

•and if you don’t number them, then they sort by date, and you get something like this:• http://phxicc.org/streaming-media/2015-first-principles/

Understanding how critical “Path” is in entering media in the upsidedown21.org DB• If the URL(s) in the “Path” form field are not *exactly*

right, your media will not play.• URL Path(s) are CASE SENSITIVE. This means that

“http://www.site.org/ThIs/file.mp3” is not the same as “http://www. site.org/This/file.mp3.” The “I” is capitalized (or upper case”) in the first URL and so is different than the second because it is “lowercase” “i.”

• There should be NO SPACES in the URL path(s).• A great safeguard is to have a clear process that

ENSURES you do not mistype the PATH. The recommendation is that you use FTP to construct the exact path(s) and then “cut and paste” the path (or paths) into the Path Field.

• You can have multiple types of media and thus multiple “Paths” to each piece of media. The recommendation is that you will have ONE video type (mp4, flv) and ONE audio type (mp3, ogg)

Page 9: Leveraging the UpSideDown21 Content Management System Tutorial #2.

A simple method to ensure URL’s are accurate.

Log into your FTP site where the media has been uploaded. (In this example, it the FTP server is media01.usd21.org)

The “public_html” folder you replace with the DNS entry for the site (in this case, “media01.usd21.org”). The folders you’d cut and paste after this, removing “public_html.” This would leave you with:http://media01.usd21.org/media/phxicc/2010/videoThen select whichever file you are planning to add to the “path” and place it at the end like this:

http://media01.usd21.org/media/phxicc/2010/video/20100116-Kip_McKean-Winter_Workshop.flvThis is the entry you’d put in the “Path”

Page 10: Leveraging the UpSideDown21 Content Management System Tutorial #2.

Copy/Paste PATH URL into “Path” form field

You’d go through the same process to add an audio file (assuming you’d had one!). Just put a comma right after the first one and paste the second one after it.

Utilizing the “Notes:” fieldThe “Notes” field allows you to put downloadable notes, additional media (like slideshows or pdfs), maps/images and such related to the lesson/sermon.

In the above example, several related documents and hand-outs were added via FTP to the server and then “linked” via “<a href=“”></a> tags so they are able to be downloaded in the context of this specific lesson/sermon. (See below, taken from the “front of the site phxicc.org)

Page 12: Leveraging the UpSideDown21 Content Management System Tutorial #2.

Click “Enter Media” & check your work!

Always go to the “front end” of your site and check to see that the media plays and behaves as expected.

You might have to clear your WordPress cache if you use a caching mechanism (like WPSuperCache, CloudFlare, and the like) in order to see the page update.

The first place to check is the URL path. One good way to test if the URL is valid is to cut and paste it directly in your browser. This should initiate a download or a default player (depending on your browser’s settings). If not, then the media link/URL is not correct/valid.

Checking Work Continued…

If there is a missing or malformed URL in the path, the system will usually print out the error when trying to render the HTML5 player.

The system also can accept several kinds of media (both audio and video) and even has a feature to integrate into youtube.com.

The player will “sense” the youtube.com url and render an embedded youtube.com player

Other formats include mp4, mp3, and ogg.
