LEVITATION
+
= MIRROR LEVITATION
INTRODUCTIONIn this levitation, we adopted principles from –
•Basic or Balducci’s Levitation
•Reflection (Physics)
The following slides show some pictures of the levitation.

This instance of levitation was carried out at close range to the camera (2 meters).
EFFECT
The levitator gradually lifts off his foot, and he appears to be floating off the ground.
LEVITATION
LEVITATION EFFECT
The levitator bends his leg backwards and amazingly, he floats in mid air
TECHNIQUE
Bend the leg in front of the mirror backwards…hence both legs appear to be in mid-air. However, one leg is supporting (positioned behind mirror)

LEVITATION
This was our experimental levitation in a darkened room. It seems to make the presence of the mirror much less obvious, however, not vivid.

THE GENERAL TECHNIQUE
The general technique of levitation is by lifting one leg only. This is also known as the Balducci’s Levitation Technique.
THE PRINCIPLES
But having the Balducci’s technique isn’t enough. Hence, applied in this levitation is also the principles of reflection.
END
One leg lifts up while the other stays on the ground in order to provide support for the other leg.
The difference from the actual Balducci’s Levitation is that we put a mirror in between the legs so that both appear to float
In the Balducci’s Levitation, only one leg appears to be afloat, The other is hidden from view

Hence, we improvised the Balducci’s Levitation by adding a mirror to enhance the effect

PRINCIPLES:
•Makes use of the apparent L to R reversal in a plane mirror, the person appears to levitate, i.e. appears to have both legs in the air simultaneously
•Because image dist.= object dist., the image of the leg in front of the mirror looks as if it is the leg that is hidden behind the mirror.
•Using symmetry of a person’s two legs.
•Image is upright and since it is laterally inverted, it appears to be part of the other leg.
