INNOVATION

At LG Chem, we are now practicing Speed Management across the enterprise to meet our

business targets and bring us a step closer to achieving our vision of being a global leader. We

continue to expand our Six Sigma and total productive maintenance (TPM) initiatives as we

systematically take our competitiveness to the next level.

Our active innovation is taking ourcompetitiveness to the next level.

Speed Management to Create Excellent Performance

Speed Management, a unique means to

guiding implementation of LG Way in LG Chem, enables

acceleration of strategy execution and organizational

transformation with a focus on market and customer, to

realize our vision as a Global Leading Company that

delivers sustainable performance excellence. There are

three core Speed management initiatives- No.1 in Core

Business , Customer Value Creation , and Global

Organizational Capability -of which are executed through

an Earlier preparation than competitors , Faster

results than competitors , and More Frequent check

than competitors approach. Speed Management requires

us to concentrate on our core strengths to provide

excellent performance. In business management, we are

deploying the Core Focused Strategy to focus our time

and effort on our core, competitive business areas. In

people management, we identify and further reinforce the

strengths in our people. In addition, our people accumulate

success experiences of achieving challenging goals with

strong desire and through flow. By building up these

success experiences, we are acquiring breakthrough

capability that consistently creates excellent performance.

Our on-site innovation initiatives, such as Quality Control

(QC) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), have helped

build a systematic facility management mechanism across

our plants, resulting in maximum productivity and minimum

defects to deliver products with world-class quality. We

deployed Six Sigma across organization to secure cost and

product leadership in 1999, so that we could proactively and

flexibly adapt to increasingly sophisticated and evolving

customer needs. Our Six Sigma program brings in the best

and the brightest from different areas of the company to

solve problems. To further facilitate such innovation

programs, we hold Best Practice Contest every year to share

our innovation performance and recognize people for their

efforts.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

At LG Chem, we are leading our industry into the future through basic and applied research in the

fields of petrochemicals, information technology and electronic materials, and batteries.

Supported by state-of-the-art facilities, top-notch personnel, and a global R&D network, we

continue to develop the innovative materials and technologies that will create the value for

customers around the globe.

An Engine for Continuous Growth

LG Chem runs a Corporate R&D Center,

an IT & Electronic Materials R&D Center, a Battery R&D

Center, and a Petrochemicals R&D Center. We have also put

together a global R&D network with satellite labs in the United

States, Germany, Russia, China, and, as of 2011, Japan. We

currently have more than 1,300 professionals on our

multidisciplinary research staff, 25% of which have doctorates.

We have registered more than 11,000 patents worldwide to

date, creating a growing intellectual property portfolio that is

making us increasingly competitive in the global marketplace.

We continuously invest and strategically allocate resources to

develop value-added premium products, optimize

manufacturing processes, and incubate businesses that will

drive future growth. To this end, we actively recruit and train

core talent, select and manage projects that meet the needs of

both our customers and the market, integrate existing core

technologies with new ones, and prepare for new businesses

in the future.

Increasing Our Competitive Edge and ExpandingFirst-Mover Advantage

Our R&D initiatives are closely tied with

enhancing our competitiveness in our major business areas.

We are boosting our cost competitiveness in the field of

petrochemicals by developing premium polyolefin products

that use new material catalysts, while also conducting a wide

range of R&D programs. Furthermore, we are continuing to

make significant advances in the field of information

technology and electronic materials, an area we identified as

an engine for growth back in the mid-1990s. Over the years,

we have developed and launched TFT-LCD polarizers, LCD

color filter photoresists, OLED materials (which are expected

to become a next-generation display), printed circuit board

materials, and, most recently, FPR (film patterned retarder)

passive 3D glasses.

In the battery business, we were able to mass-produce lithium

polymer batteries for the Hyundai Avante hybrid car in July

2009, and for GM's electric vehicle, the Volt, in December

2012. We are currently the top producer of the leading lithium-

ion batteries for electric cars in the world, and our clients

include global auto giants such as GM, Ford, Hyundai, and

Renault. As well as reinforcing core businesses, we are

committing ourselves to developing future growth engines.

Today, we are leveraging core competencies cultivated over

the years to develop and integrate entirely new technologies

as we work on next-generation display materials, green

energy solutions such as materials for solar cells, batteries

for hybrid electric vehicles, next-generation semiconductor

materials, and cutting-edge eco-friendly materials. In the

coming years, LG Chem will conduct extensive R&D to acquire

original technology so we can expand differentiated products

lines, securing future competitiveness as well as top business

results.

At LG Chem, our approach to delivering customer value innovation and enhancing the

competitiveness of our businesses is simple. We hire quality people, develop their competency more,

motivate them to create great performance based on innovative corporate culture, and then fairly

evaluate and compensate them. It s a sound approach that has earned us “Best Human Resource

Developer” certification from the Korean government as well as the top award in the HR category at

the Korea Management Awards from KMA Consultants for the past five straight years.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Recruiting and Developing the Best

We believe that our competitive edge is

our people. Accordingly, recruiting and training is an

company-wide priority. For the last seven years, we have

hit the road to recruit top talent from around the world,

especially through our annual Business & Campus Tour

and Tech Fair academic seminar programs, in which LG

Chem s CEO participates. We also fund scholarships at

major Korean universities, including an academic program

whose focus is on secondary batteries, to create a hiring

pool of highly qualified chemical and mechanical engineers

with practical experience.

Continuous training and development at all levels is an

integral part of our HR policy. We have succession plans in

place for key positions to ensure we have world-class

business leaders. Our High Potential Individual (HPI) program

and Next-Generation Global Business Leader program help

identify and develop next-generation business leaders.

Furthermore, our training programs can be divided into three

general categories: core talent training, management and

cross-cultural training, and professional training, each of

which includes in-house or external training depending on

the individual s position and skill set.

Creating a Great Place to Work

We respect the ingenuity and autonomy

of our people and value their capabilities and contributions

as we strive to give each one equal opportunity to advance

and excel. We start by assigning new hires to departments

that match their preferences and aptitudes. We help them

achieve their full potential and coach them based on their

career plans. Then we evaluate them fairly and reward

high performers with fast-track promotions and a variety

of incentives. We also implement the Together Program

for second-year employees, which helps them find their

strengths and establish career development plans, as well

as a Professional Leader program for second-year

assistant managers to help them rebuild their career

vision.

We recognize that happy employees are performing better

than who are not. Our wide range of employee welfare

programs aims to improve the quality of all aspects of life

for our people. Basic benefits include housing rental and

purchase assistance, school tuition for dependents, health

check-ups and medical expense support, congratulatory

and condolence payments, and dormitory housing for plant

employees. We also support club activities and operate

recreational and resort facilities. Our flexible benefits plan

has given our people greater choices and control over their

welfare benefits since 2006, further enhancing employees’

satisfaction.

GLOBAL BUSINESS

At LG Chem, we are becoming more global every day. Our products and services are

creating value and transforming life for customers across China, Asia, the Americas, and

Europe. We are tailoring our aggressive global strategy to the needs and circumstances of

each market as we set our sights on becoming one of the world’s largest and most-

profitable chemical makers.

Overseas Sales in USD millions

Our Global Business is Growing

We operate worldwide through a global

network of 29 business locations in 15 countries. This

network includes a holding company in China, 14 overseas

manufacturing subsidiaries, five marketing subsidiaries,

seven representative offices, and two R&D centers.

Despite challenging market conditions in 2010, our focus

on improving the profitability of our local sales operations

helped us generate significant qualitative growth.

Overseas markets generated more than USD 10.52 billion

in sales during the year, representing over 63% of total

sales. Overseas business accounts for 65% of the

petrochemical sector s total business, 40% of information

technology and electronic materials, and 91% of batteries.

Not only did China continue to dominate our global

business strategy, accounting for 63% of overseas sales,

but it also emerged as our second domestic market. In

addition, we reaped the benefits of market diversification

as sales continued to rise in North America, Europe, and

Japan, as well as emerging markets such as India, South

America, the Middle East, and Africa. We continue to

localize our operations and enhance the capabilities of our

local staffs through short-term training sessions at our

headquarters and a numerous other initiatives.

As we look ahead to the future, we are formulating

market-specific strategies and expanding our business

infrastructure in each region as we steadily diversify into

new markets worldwide. Beyond enabling us to grow our

information technology and electronic materials, our

global network is helping us secure the world’s most

advanced technologies, making us an even more

formidable competitor in the global marketplace.

GLOBAL BUSINESS

China Sales in USD millions

* Figures include both direct exports and sales by local subsidiaries in mainland China and Taiwan.

Rest of World Sales in USD millions

CHINA

LG Chem has been operating subsidiaries such

as ABS, EP, PVC, EDC, VCM, SBL, and SBS since it entered the

Chinese market. It also established its first manufacturing

subsidiary there, LG Yongxing, and expanded into new areas such

as secondary batteries and polarizers in 2003. Today, LG Chem

(China) Investment Co., Ltd.-our local holding company-oversees

one marketing and ten manufacturing subsidiaries. We continue to

steadily expand our R&D and training capabilities here as we

become an increasingly important employer in the local economy.

A rising local petrochemical capacity has recently begun to put

downward pressure on prices. LG Chem responded by shifting its

focus to boosting our cost competitiveness in the petrochemicals

field, as well as focusing on developing growth engines in the

information technology and electronic materials fields. With local

PVC production capacity holding steady at 400,000 tons, we are set

to increase our ABS capacity in Hunan Province by 300,000 tons,

from the current capacity of 600,000 tons, by 2015, solidifying our

position as a global market leader.

We will continue to assemble a more robust and profitable

business portfolio in the coming years by enhancing our local cost

competitiveness in petrochemicals - our largest business field - as

we step up exports of value-added products. We will also be actively

pursuing new growth opportunities as we shift our focus to door

and window systems, high-gloss sheets, LCD polarizers and other

promising industrial, information technology, and electronic

materials.

C H I N A UNITED STATES

Despite an unfavorable real estate market, we

continue to expand our customer and revenue base in the solid

surface field as we aggressively pursue opportunities in

petrochemicals, batteries, auto interior coverstocks, and other fields.

In particular, we are aggressively looking to advance into the North

American market, as was backed up by our groundbreaking

ceremony in July 2010 for electric car batteries in Holland, Michigan,

which was attended by VIPs that included President Obama.

EUROPE

LG Chem Europe GmbH is actively targeting

end-consumers to boost profitability with higher-margin specialty

product sales across the continent. We are carrying out localization

projects at a steady pace, including the commissioning of a polarizer

post-processing plant in Poland. In the future, we aim to grow sales

of value-added products as we build a high-performance business

network.

BRICs

We have actively pursued opportunities in India

since establishing LG Polymers India in Vizag in 1996. The steady

growth of India s auto, construction, and home appliance industries

makes the PVC and ABS businesses our primary targets. Since

setting up our Moscow office in 2004, we have expanded its

marketing mandate beyond Russia to cover the CIS and Far East.

Founded in 2005, our Brazil marketing subsidiary continues to

increase petrochemical sales throughout Latin America.

materials. We can produce 250,000 tons of EP resins annually. Our

high-performance resins have outstanding mechanical and thermal

properties that make them ideal structural materials and suitable

alternatives for metals and thermoset resins.

ACRYLATES / PLASTICIZERS

Acrylic acid and esters are widely used as

feedstocks to make super-absorbent polymers, textiles, paints,

adhesives, and impact modifiers due to their superior reactivity. We

produce isopropyl alcohol (IPA), a solvent used in paints and inks,

and high-purity IPA for cleaning semiconductor wafers and LCDs.

We have also developed neopentyl glycol (NPG) for use in saturated,

unsaturated, and urethane resins as well as water-soluble

polycarboxylic copolymers for use in high-performance concrete

admixtures and pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) designed for

display films. In 2008, we have acquired the superabsorbent

polymer (SAP) business to integrate the SAP business with existing

acrylic monomers business.

Plasticizers are added to resins and polymers to improve their

workability and physical properties. We currently produce

commodity and specialty plasticizers. Our eco-friendly glycol-based

plasticizer-an industry first-has established us as one of the

industry’s most innovative makers.

Acrylates get their excellent

chemical reactivity from the

double bond and functional group

of their molecular structure. Their

many applications include highly

absorbent resins, textiles, paints,

adhesives, and impact modifiers.

These thermoplastic resins are

used in electric and electronic

components, auto parts, industrial

materials, and a wide variety of

everyday plastic products. Our

plants in Korea and China have a

combined capacity of 1.06 million

tons, making us the global market

leader in the transparent and

heat-resistant ABS market

segments.

NCC / PO

Our mergers with LG Daesan Petrochemicals in

2006 and LG Petrochemical in 2007 have enabled us to achieve full

vertical integration in the PVC and ABS businesses. Our naphtha

cracking centers (NCC) in Yeosu and Daesan thermally “crack” or

break down naphtha into feedstocks such as ethylene, propylene,

mixed C4s, and pyrolysis gasoline that we sell worldwide for use in a

wide range of downstream products such as polyolefins (PO),

bisphenol A (BPA), ABS, PVC, octanol, acrylic acid (AA), synthetic

rubbers (SBR/BR), styrene monomer (SM), and ethylene glycol (EG).

We increased our production of ethylene to 1.95 million tons and

propylene to 1.1 million tons annually by adding new NCC facilities in

2010 and 2011. Polyolefins are polymers such as polyethylene (PE)

and polypropylene (PP), both plastic resins known for outstanding

work ability. They are used to make electric wire insulation, films,

pipes, and a wide range of injection-molded products. The quality of

our PO products is recognized worldwide.

SYNTHETIC RUBBERS & SPECIALTY POLYMERS

We produce a broad lineup of synthetic rubbers

and specialty polymers using Butadiene (BD), SM and Benzen as

our primary feedstocks. Our styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and

butadiene rubber (BR) products are used in tires, shoe soles, while

our acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) is used for shoe soles,

gaskets, and hoses.

In the specialty polymers field, we produce methyl methacrylate-

butadiene-styrene (MBS) impact modifiers for PVC products,

styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) with rubber-like elasticity that is

ideal for asphalt and waterproof sheets, adhesives, and shoe soles

as well as a plastic modifier, SB Latex, raw material for paper

coating, NBR Latex for Nitrile Gloves, and BPA for polycarbonate

and epoxy resins.

Display today. The immensely improved viewing angle and brightness

are also attributable to the development of Polarizers. By 2006, LG

Chem co-developed the world s first 100 LCD panel. By 2007, we

were leading the polarizer market in the monitor segment. Two years

later, LG Chem became number one in the overall polarizer

business. That position is still held by LG Chem today.

Electronic Materials

LG Chem develops and produces a wide variety

of display materials, ranging from photoresists and strippers to

OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) materials. LG Chem s

Photoresists for TFT-LCD is known to have the industry s highest

contrast rate. Our Photoresists color reproduction range helps

reproduces images with superior depth and detail. Strippers are

processing chemicals essential to the TFT-LCD manufacturing

process, used for circuit fabrication. OLEDs are expected to lead the

next generation of display technology. The efficiency of the OLED

device is directly influenced by its Materials. LG Chem s OLED

Materials (HIL: Hole Injection Layer, ETL: Electron Transporting

Layer, EM: Emitting Layer) happen to be the strongest in the

industry, in terms of low power consumption and high efficiency.

Color Filter Photoresist

Photoresists improve the contrast

ratio and color reproduction of

TFT-LCD panels. We currently

produce color, column spacer,

overcoat, and black matrix

photoresists. As the developer of

the industry’s highest contrast-

ratio color filter photoresist

solution, we continue to break

new ground in both technology

and quality for our customers.

In addition to display materials, LG Chem produces a wide range of

printing, battery, and PSB (Printed Circuit Board) materials. LG

Chem currently supplies toners for copiers and laser printers to

more than 150 manufacturers worldwide. LG Chem s Battery

Materials (electrolytes and cathodes) is a strategic area in which

we are pursuing to enhance the competitiveness of our battery

lineup. Our development efforts are focused on improving the

capacity, stability, and overall performance of rechargeable

batteries. LG Chem s Printed Circuit Board Materials (CCL:

Copper-Clad Laminates, RCC: Resin-Coated Copper foil, 2CCL: 2

Layer CCL) assist the development of semiconductors by enabling

high-density circuit design. The evolution continues as we are

currently making the transition into producing high-tech IC

packaging materials.

IT-Films

LG Chem is also involved in the development

of BLU (Back Light Unit) films for displays. In 2007, we have

commenced the commercial production of our LSFs (Light Shaping

Film). This film enhances the display s efficiency by concentrating

the light from the BLU into an optimal viewing angle. LG Chem

produces its own Protective Film for Polarizers. Our Protective

Films are well known for its anti-static, anti-pollution, and optimal

peel-off qualities. Finally, LG Chem s DAFs (Die Attach Film)

improves the productivity in the semiconductor packaging process

with its superior quality and high reliability.

Batteries

We completed development and began mass

production of Korea’s first lithium-ion batteries back in 1999. By

the end of 2008, we were the world’s fourth-largest maker with an

annual production capacity of 40 million cells, including 30 million

cells in Korea and 10 million overseas. As the first in the industry to

commercially produce 2,800 mAh cells, we are considered to be

one of the technology leaders in the field.

We produce both lithium-ion and lithium-ion polymer rechargeable

batteries. Lithium-ion batteries come in cylindrical or prismatic

cells, exhibit no memory effect, and have a high energy density and

nominal voltage. They also have multiple safety features that make

them ideal for notebook PCs, camcorders, mobile phones, and

other personal electronic devices. Lithium-ion polymer batteries

offer more freedom in battery shape than lithium-ion cells,

enabling the battery to be easily and perfectly tailored to fit the

device. Their energy density is also superior to conventional cells,

allowing significant weight savings to be achieved.

Medium-and Large-sized Batteries

Medium-and large-format batteries are high-

output, high-capacity devices with a long list of applications

including robots, robot vacuum cleaners, electric bicycles, electric

wheelchairs, and electric-and hybrid vehicles. Since beginning

commercial production of these batteries in 2005, we have

continued to enhance our competitiveness by working closely with

major customers. We are also positioning ourselves for future

growth by accelerating development of low-cost, high-efficiency

clean energy solutions.

Environment/Safety Management System

Each and every business location has

established environment/safety policies based on company-wide

environmental regulations and safety/health guidelines, as well as

LG Chem management principles. We have adopted environment

and safety management systems that include the ISO14001,

OHSAS18001, and KOSHA18001. This has enabled us to improve

environmental management, risk evaluation, environment and

safety training, and emergency programs. In addition, LG Chem has

integrated and refurbished various environment and safety systems

based on Responsible Care, our voluntary sustainability program, in

order to create better results and in a more efficient way.

Furthermore, we have drawn up with annual plans at each business

location to be better prepared for environment and safety

investigations, including an environment performance index (EPI) to

complete our systematic environmental management system.

Designing Eco-Friendly Products

LG Chem has come up with an eco-design

process which analyzes the environmental effects of a product

throughout its lifecycle, from product development and purchase of

raw materials to manufacturing, consumption, and disposal. We

also try to reduce the environmental burden generated through

production by developing products that are both durable and

harmless, while increasing the recycling rate of products after they

are disposed of.

Green Certification of Partner Companies

LG has instituted green certification guidelines

to proactively respond to domestic and international regulations,

such as RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and REACH

(Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of

Chemicals), while at the same time implementing a green

certification system since 2006. We are also doing our utmost to

reduce the risks related to toxic substances contained within

products in our supply chain through training and carrying out

investigations at partner companies.

ERP-Based Chemical Substance Management System

LG Chem established CHARMs (Chemical

Assurance and Regulation Management System), an ERP-based

management system which deals with chemical substances in

products, and has been utilizing it to ensure that products do not

contain harmful substances and comply with major environmental

regulations such as REACH and RoHS. CHARMs integrates all

aspects of the existing substance management process, from

purchasing and warehousing to manufacturing and shipping.

CHARMs has allowed LG Chem to count, search (on a quantitative

basis), and manage every single item and chemical substance

coming into and going from the company. Based on this system, we

will be able to deal with changing market needs more astutely in

the future.

Energy-Saving Measures

LG Chem is establishing eco-friendly

production processes through innovative energy-saving measures,

transforming itself into a low energy consuming structure which

optimizes energy efficiency and improves energy management

technology. We are also developing technologies to save energy and

promote the exchange of information by assigning relevant tasks to

headquarters and other business sites.

Responding to the Convention on Climate Change

By phasing in and carrying out steps to respond

to the UNFCC effectively, LG Chem is supporting the alleviation of

global warming even as it pursues sustainable growth. In fact, LG

Chem has not only established teams under the CEO to

systematically deal with climate change but has also come up with

a proactive response system that connects headquarters with each

business site. There are personnel in place at each business site

who are responsible for gathering information and reporting on

greenhouse gas emissions, as well as developing projects to reduce

emissions. At the same time, headquarters analyzes international

trends, cooperates with all levels of the government, collects

information, provides training and develops mid- and long-term

strategies.

LG Chem has established a vision and conducted action plans to respond tovarious issues with the environment, safety, the environmental impact of products (EIPRO),energy, and the UNFCCC (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change). Our priority is to createa sustainable harmony between business and the environment. To ensure compliance withstringent product environmental regulations such as REACH and other environmental standardsin the developed markets such as the EU, we put in place an eco-product taskforce team toaddress specific issues by each product group. In addition, a climate TFT was set up amidst risingconcerns over weather abnormalities and global warming caused by greenhouse gases. The teamdevelops strategic initiatives and action plans and implements them in stages.
