We’ve put a splendid gift for you under our big Christmas tree at Autoworld: more than 65 Porsches brought together for an exhibition that runs until 27 January and tells the legendary story of the Stuttgart brand. In fact, if you include the cars present in the museum’s permanent collection, we have over 70 Porsches on show to delight young and old for more than a month. Autoworld is therefore the place where Porsche’s 70th anniversary year reaches its grand finale. This is a matter of no small pride to us: it’s a tremendous feat for a museum to be able to gather so many iconic cars together for a limited time. It bears witness to the trust placed in us by car makers, importers, clubs, other European museums and, especially, private collectors. We would like to extend our thanks to Porsche Import, Porsche Classic Club and Porsche Museum Stuttgart, to name but a few. Some real Porsche treasures lie hidden away in our country, and many collectors have kindly brought their ‘gems’ out of their garages and entrusted them to us for the duration of the exhibition. We are very grateful to them as well. The quality of our exhibition was further underlined by the kind acceptance by Mr Jacky Ickx and Dr Wolfgang Porsche of our invitation to attend the inaugural evening. Be sure to come and see the amazing cars on display at Autoworld this winter! ps: don't forget to click on the play-button to watch our official teaser PORSCHE 70 YEARS FROM 14 DECEMBER 2018 TO 27 JANUARY 2019 Five years ago, Autoworld presented the story of Professor Ferdinand Porsche and his successors, from the first electric car to present-day models. This time, the spotlight is on the story of the brand – the brand created by Ferry Porsche, Professor Porsche’s second son. That story started when, after the Liberation, Ferry began to make exceptional sports cars building on the technical achievements of Volkswagen. I looked around and couldn’t find the car I was dreaming of anywhere. So I built it! THE EXHIBITION'S TOP 10 With more than 65 cars in the exhibition and 70 cars in total, including those permanently on show in the museum, it's no easy matter to pick our ten favourites. Nevertheless, here are the some of the cars that the museum team are especially excited about: 1. 911 RS 2.7 2. 904 GTS 3. 928 Prototype 75 Years Ferry Porsche 4. 356/2-Gmünd Cabriolet (Keibl) 5. GT1 Strassenversion 6. 959 Paris-Dakar 7. 917 Psychedelic 8. 919 Hybrid LMP1 9. 550 Spyder 10. 911 R (’65) THE BARN At the heart of the exhibition, a reconstructed barn is the setting for the brand’s first models: the legendary 356s. All versions of this first Porsche are on display, including some rare gems such as the 356 Gmünd, the 356 Carrera GT and even a scarce black 108 Porsche tractor. EVOLUTION The cars lined up here trace the brand’s development, starting with one of the first 356s and taking in the D'Ieteren Roadster 356, the Cayenne Transsyberia, the great 911 family and its many adaptations, including revolutionary innovations such as transaxles, front engines and Targa. One item is on loan from the Porsche Museum, specially for our exhibition: the 928 prototype presented to Ferry Porsche for his 75th birthday. In this part of the exhibition, visitors can see at a glance the many variants created throughout the years. MOTORSPORT At Porsche, the Motorsport Department is an integral part of the brand's DNA. With 19 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche is currently the world's leading manufacturer of racing cars. An entire area is dedicated to these impressive cars, such as the 550 Spyder (the first Porsche racing car, and the model owned by James Dean), the Carrera Abarth (resulting from a little- known collaboration between Porsche and Abarth), the 904 GTS, the 911 3.0 RSR, two versions of the 917 – the Psychedelic and the Spyder CanAm –, the 935 Kremer K3, the 959 Paris- Dakar Rothmans, and, best of all, the 919 Hybrid LMP1, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times ... plus many more. SPECIAL STAGES The rich history of the brand led to our decision to create special stages to show off some exceptional cars and remarkable developments under special lighting. The very rare 356/2-Gmünd Cabriolet Keibl sits on a rotating stage. This exceptional car, just two of which were built by Viennese coachbuilder Ferdinand Keibl, is being lent to us by the Stuttgart Porsche Museum. Further on are the Supercars, those exceptional race cars authorised for road use: Porsche's first supercar, the 959, and the 911 GT1 Strassenversion are lined up alongside the Carrera GT and the very latest example, the 918 Spyder. We don’t want to give away all the secrets of the exhibition here, but we can tell you that the 911 Turbos definitely haven’t been forgotten, in all versions, and the same goes for the 911 RSs (RennSport), the Speedstersand the special bodywork versions. Finally, the exhibition also includes short films and historical posters, as well as a diorama and a number of display cases containing no fewer than 250 scale models. PORSCHE TODAY The current range is also well represented, showcasing a wide range of cars from the 718 (Boxter and Cayman versions) to the very latest Panamera Sport Turismo. PORSCHE LEGO Specially for our younger visitors – and for the young at heart – the exhibition also features the Big Brick Lego Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0, made entirely of Lego bricks but life-size. It took almost three weeks to assemble the car, which weighs 300 kgs. The same models are available in miniature versions in our shop. LIFE ART When a 911 turns into an artistic medium During the opening evening, our thousand guests witnessed an unusual artistic event. Two artists from the Brussels artistic collective Louves – Cathy Gagalis Vega, a graphic designer, and Clarisse Jeghers, an art therapist and illustrator – created an artwork live on a 1972 Porsche 911 T entirely covered in vinyl. This project, devised by Damien van Lierde, was an initiative of 911 Motorsport, supported by the Autoworld Museum. The live art car will remain on display in the museum for the duration of the exhibition. Come and see this unique and short-lived work for yourself. SPECIAL KIDS Visiting Autoworld with your children means everyone has a good time as we have planned activities for children of all ages. COLOURING CONTEST Throughout the summer holidays, a zone in the Porsche exhibition will be transformed into a big studio where children aged 3 to 12 will be able to practise their colouring skills and win some great prizes. All the equipment will be provided on site. TREASURE HUNT The Treasure Hunt is back this summer for children in two different age brackets (3 to 6 years, and 7 to 12 years). You can pick up a form at reception, and if you answer the questions correctly you will reveal a code that will open the padlock to the box containing some great treasure! Younger children might appreciate a little helping hand from parents here and there. OUR SHOP DECKED OUT IN THE PORSCHE COLOURS If you’re looking for gifts to put under your tree, our shop is stuffed full of ideas. We have some great Porsche branded products, some of which come to us exclusively from the Porsche Museum in Germany, including a range of miniatures, enamel signs, caps, mugs, USB keys in the form of cars, Lego, Playmobile, surprise eggs and ducks.
