Representation

The magazine front cover is represented as a rock magazine and follows the codes and conventions of all magazine covers.

The main image is the most important and stands out the most and you can see that the main image is the main focus of the page and is what attracts the audience to buy it because if the image doesn’t attract them or it isn’t someone they like then they aren’t going to be interested. The arctic monkeys all have very serious faces.

This is also the only image on the front cover of the magazine, which shows how important it is because you normally expect there to be more than one image on the cover.

Page 8: Liaar analysis

AudienceNME’s main target audience is teenage boys. However, some teenage girls may be interested in the magazine, depending on what genre of music appeals to them and what they are most interested in.

IPC, describes NME of having a male target audience. Another aspect of the magazine cover that makes teenagers interested in the magazine is that it is mainly focused on today’s music.

Also, because they have artists and groups from the past in the magazine, will make people interested because teenagers won’t really know much about groups and artists from the past and how successful they were. The front cover also suggests that the magazine is aimed at most people who are really interested in rock groups.

However, not all teenagers will enjoy reading this as they might not be interested in this music genre.

The IPC website states “NME.COM is the world's biggest standalone music site serving an intensely engaged audience of 16-24 year-olds.”

Ideology

Kerrang is a music magazine.

Everything Kerrang publish, they aim to make it suitable for their target audience.

Their magazines are devoted to rock music. Which can be recognised by just looking at the cover of one of the kerrang magazines.

The text of the title is bold and very outgoing which represents rock music and will help the audience to recognise that it is a rock magazine.

All of the colours used are very dark (black, dark green) colours and this is what Kerrangs message is, everything they do they want it to be based on their target audience; therefore, the theme of the magazine is going to have to match their target audience.

RepresentationThe magazine front cover is represented as a rock magazine and follows the codes and conventions of all magazine covers.

The main image is the most important and stands out the most and you can see that the main image is the main focus of the page and is what attracts the audience to buy it because if the image doesn’t attract them or it isn’t someone they like then they aren’t going to be interested. They have also used a popular well knows band on the front of the magazine because they want it to stand out and attract people, they want this to be the main focus of their magazine.

You me at six are also wearing all black clothing which makes them stand out from the rest of the page and they are wearing the darkest colours so the focus is on them. What they are wearing also fits in with the ‘rock’ magazine.

Also, the rest of the images on the page represent rock because none on the people in them look very happy, they are very serious, which is what most people are like when they play rock music.

Page 15: Liaar analysis

AudienceFrom looking at the front cover of the magazine, I can assume that the magazine I aimed at teenage boys who are interested in rock music.

I can assume that this magazine has predominately male readers because of the text and colours used on the front of the magazine, it is a very outgoing ‘in your face magazine’ they want to catch the reader’s attention.

From doing research about Kerrangs target audience, I found out that the target audience of Kerrang is:

• Male- 66.2%

• Female: 33.8%

• Target Age: Between 15-45

The age range of their target audience is very big compared to a lot of other magazines, as you can tell by looking at their front cover, it isn’t just aimed at teenagers, it is also aimed at middle aged people, which is why their mission is to ensure that their magazine suits their whole target audience and makes them want to read it.

NME focuses on artists that were big in the past and allows people to see to what extent there groups or artists were actually successful in the past.

They have a mission to focus on the past and the present, therefore, this opens up their product to a wider target audience as they are offering it to more than one group of people as not all people are interested in new and upcoming artists and groups.

Everything that they can do, they do to focus on their target audience. As you can tell from the cover of the magazine, the arctic monkeys are not a new and upcoming group but they will still appeal to people.

Page 21: Liaar analysis

These are very outgoing, colours which will attract people’s attention. The models in the main image are also wearing all black which makes them stand out from the rest of the page as they are up against a white/grey background and it makes them the main focus of the page.
