Why is referencing important?- It shows your tutor where you have sourced your
ideas and information- It means you are not plagiarising- It shows (when you paraphrase) that you
understand what you have read- It shows that you have done some research- You get marks for it

There are 2 aspects of referencing:
-In-text referencing- Reference list

argue that although chocolate cravings are very common…
Or:Although chocolate cravings… affect women

What happens when there is no author?If there is no author, use the
company/organisation name eg. (Ministry of Health, 2009, p. 15)
If there is no company, use title of webpage eg. (“Pet”, 2009, p. 18)

Write “n.d.” (= no date)

What happens if it is a website with no page numbers?If it doesn’t have page numbers, use paragraphs
eg. (Smith, 2009, para. 4)
What if there are heaps of paragraphs and I can’t count that high?If the webpage is very long but has sections, cite the
section heading and the number of the paragraph you used:
eg. (Cadbury, 2010, London Chocolate Houses section, para. 3)

What if I’m not sure what the name of the website is?With websites, it’s often not clear what the
proper title is, so just try to be as accurate as you can with what is on the page
