• Provide tips and tricks on the Galter Health Sciences Library online catalog for literature/article searches
• Provide an overview of EndNote, a bibliographicmanagement software

A few notes on access• If you have a NetID, sign into
Galter and check the box that says “Remember me for four weeks”
• If you don’t have a NetID, click here
• If the resource note says “Access restricted to Lurie Children’s, go to AllConnect

EndNote: installation• NU faculty, staff and students
can install EN through NUIT
• Lurie Children’s staff cancontact IM to have EN installed– use the My Helpdesk link to submit a ticket

EndNote: starting a new library• First things first! Remember to format your library before
inputting references
• Go to Tools -> Open Term Lists -> Journals Term List
• OK to import more than one, but needs to be done one at a time
• This step will ensure that your references will be formattedcorrectly

EndNote: inputting references• There are three ways to input references:
1. Manual – this is the least preferred method. Only use when you cannot find the reference online.
2. Search online databases within EN – ok to use for knownreferences, when you just need a few, etc.
3. Search online databases directly – best choice, especially for searches that will retrieve lots of references.

EndNote: inserting references• You can insert a reference by selecting it in EN and using the
EN menu in Word• Other options for inserting references such as drag-and-drop• The manuscript can be reformatted using any style

class or review their very thorough LibGuides– EN for Mac– EN for Windows– FAQs
• Peggy can train you or your team at any time• The EndNote website contains lots of training and
troubleshooting resources• If you are experiencing technical difficulties, the EN team
can help – check out their FAQs or ask a question.

10,000 results??
• Breaking down the question into topics
• Keyword searches versus controlled vocabulary
• What keywords should you use? Variations?
• Limits on searches – time period, age, etc.
• How do you know if you did a “good” search? Does such a thing even exist?
