Please note that these fees are to be paid to SEEDS on arrival in either Euros or Icelandic krónas. Volunteers should have a motivation for working outdoors and be prepared to experience different kinds of weather in a very isolated region of the country. There will be countless opportunities to discover the area by foot or to hike the surroundings; the location is surrounded by stunning nature. Our hosting partner will organise some free time activities in the area; for instance visiting the local swimming pool and a day trip in the area.

WORK/PROJECT: SEEDS volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute to this special art and culture project in the west part of Iceland. The aim of the project is to make an outdoor art exhibition, a geo-park, an art-residence, and a chapel for all types of religions. Volunteers will help with various outdoors tasks such as building a stone wall in a garden with sculptures and outdoor artwork. The volunteers will be supervised by a professional stonewall maker and a nature scientist. Furthermore volunteers will make a walking path from the sculpture garden towards a small canyon where some outdoor artwork can be found. Volunteers will also help with setting up and moving the artwork. Our host is taking the first steps towards making a Geo-park and volunteers will help with marking and registering locations and other related tasks. If time and weather allows, volunteers will help building a chapel which is aimed to be for all religions and beliefs. Volunteers may also take down old fences and generally beautify the area. The working plan will depend on the needs of our local host and the volunteers need motivation to work mainly outdoors on physical jobs and under changeable weather conditions. ACCOMMODATION: SEEDS volunteers will stay in a local house; sleeping in shared rooms on mattresses in a sleeping bag accommodation. Please bring your own sleeping bag. Volunteers receive food supplies and are mostly in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food from your home country for an international evening. LOCATION: The project takes place in the western part of Iceland, in a unique natural pearl with breath taking landscape, between glaciers and lava fields. The place is like an oasis in the desert, as the weather is often better than in the surroundings. The place is ideal for hikers as walking paths and trails spread in all directions, beautiful waterfalls and one of the best known caves in Iceland is nearby. Every weekend there is a bonfire in the nearby camping area where visitors meet, sing, play games and enjoy the company. Among the natural wonders nearby are the Hraunfossar waterfalls; where water comes out from a lava field over a length of 1 km. Additionally, the Hallmundarhraun lava field is among the best known and deepest in Iceland. According to some of the oldest Icelandic sagas, this area is said to be inhabited since the very early settlement of the island. Dense forests, lava, water springs and torrential glacier rivers, mixed with a diverse fauna and flora makes this area a delightful place to stay. In the area there are some small local services, including a convenience store, a swimming pool with Jacuzzis, a pit-stop joint with a gas station and a small restaurant. The project is locaed close to Langjökull (Long Glacier), the second largest glacier in Iceland, it is 950 km2 and its highest point is 1355 m above sea level.

WORK/PROJECT: This is the sixth year that SEEDS volunteers will take part in a whale protection awareness project run in cooperation with IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare). The aim of the project is to raise awareness about whale protection in a friendly and peaceful manner. The tasks of the project mainly consists of distributing information, conducting a survey, having people sign a protection petition that will be taken to the government at the end of the work camp, talking to people and having fun in Reykjavík! Volunteers will also be given the opportunity to prepare and carry out acts or actions to grab attention and entertain passers-by. We encourage each volunteer to come prepared with some ideas of awareness rising for this project, to discuss them with the group and try to implement them. SEEDS is looking for enthusiastic and open people for this workcamp. Volunteers have to be ready to approach people on the street and start conversations with them. Volunteers with passion for animal and environment protection are encouraged to apply as the work can become a bit repetitive. Our goal is to raise awareness among tourists (and locals) that by tasting whale meat in Icelandic restaurants they encourage whaling. The truth is that most Icelanders have never tasted whale meat but with increasing tourism, local restaurants are increasingly including whale meat on their menu as an ¿exotic treat¿ for tourists. Iceland was one of the first countries in the world to ban commercial whaling. We can help Iceland to make a positive decision again, by educating the growing number of people who eat up to 40% of the whale meat consumed in the country, but at the same time say they are against whaling. ACCOMMODATION: SEEDS volunteers will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are fairly basic and volunteers are expected to show consideration for their fellow camp mates. Volunteers will sleep in shared rooms in a sleeping bag accommodation. Please bring your own sleeping bag. Volunteers will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food from your home country for the international evening. LOCATION: The camp is located in Reykjavik, Europe's most northern capital, a friendly and vibrant city that manages to combine the intimacy of a small-town atmosphere with all the qualities of a modern, trendy city. Here you can leisurely stroll around the lovely little streets of the town centre with its many renovated old houses and there's no hustle and bustle. The visitor to Reykjavik is simply spoiled when it comes to things to do. There is the National Gallery and a range of other small avant-garde galleries for the art lover. The National Museum provides an exciting insight into Iceland's history and heritage, as does the Arbaer Folk Museum, which is an open-air museum with a collection of old Icelandic houses and artifacts. In the area closer than 100 km from Reykjavík, there are several spectacular waterfalls, geysers, impressive coastlines and the well-known geothermal Blue

WORK/PROJECT: SEEDS volunteers will be working on a project in the beautiful forest Hallormsstaðaskógur, doing nature oriented tasks. Our tasks will mainly be focused on picking blueberries, stone bramble, tree cones and herbs. Our host has a small 100% organic food and herb production, which focuses on manually handpickedfood ingredients. This is a great volunteer project for those who love food, outdoors and have opinions about nutrition. The working plan will be flexible and it will depend on the needs of our local host, the advance of the diverse projects in the area surrounding the forest and of course on the weather conditions. Last but not least we will explore the surroundings of the location and enjoy free time activities arranged in cooperation with the local host. ACCOMMODATION: SEEDS volunteers will sleep in a local house, sharing rooms. The apartment is fully equipped with access to kitchen and bathroom. Please bring your own sleeping bag. Volunteers will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food from your home country for an international evening. LOCATION:Hallormsstaðaskógur, the largest wooded area of the country that spreads over 30 ha of land. The reforestation of the forest has been going on ever since a law for the protectionwas passed in 1899. The tree collection keeps an extensive variety of foreign trees and is renowned take professionals and travellers. The oldest part of the woodland is accessible with good hiking trails and explanation signs. The area offers great variety of walking paths, such as to the deepest valley of the country and up to Sandfell where the view is quite magnificent. Riding tours up to the mountains or in the woodland are also nice experiences.Small streams run through the land where children and adults can cool down in warm summer days. The project is located in the municipality of Fljótsdalshérað, Iceland's easternmost populous municipality; 17 km from the largest town in the Eastern Iceland -Egilsstaðir (population 2600). It is a young town, but which has become the largest town of east Iceland and offers a swimming pool, shops and museums among other main services. The East Fjords is a region of a special landscape, dominated by long, narrow fjords and steep mountains and the wild reindeers of Iceland are found here, the herd counts between three and four thousand animals. LANGUAGE: English will be the official language in the camp; high proficiency is not a requirement. TERMINAL: International Airport: Keflavík/Reykjavík(KEF); domestic airport and bus stop isEgilsstaðir. SEEDS organises the ¿minibus option¿, a shared transport from Reykjavík to the camps and vice-versa, which apart from being cheaper and more convenient, allows volunteers to meet fellow campers and have a relaxed trip, while stopping on the way for interesting and tourist sites.

Our hosting partner will organise free time activities in the surroundings of the project, such as hikingand possibly horse backriding. If you take SEEDS minibus option to and from the camp location, you will be able to go all around Iceland, as we drive different ways (either North or South) to and from the camp.

Project and location: Scoured by Ice Age glaciers, the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow fjords with steep sides and jagged peaks which contrast with inland fertile farmlands. Natural harbours mean picture-postcard fishing villages and seemingly never-ending roads cross the region, providing beautiful sweeping views. ¿Fjarðabyggð" is an association of villages in the Eastern fjords of Iceland. It includes the towns of Eskifjörður, Fáskrúðsfjörður, Mjóifjörður, Neskaupstaður, Reyðarfjörður and Stöðvarfjörður, all tiny fishing villages with steep mountains towering just behind the houses. In this area you will see some of the features that make Iceland a unique place in the world: spectacular fjords with a rich sea life, a great variety of birdlife, and countless breathtaking hiking paths. You will explore the area during your stay in the east. Work: Most of the work will consist of cleaning and beautifying the towns and the surrounding area. We will also do some other environmental tasks for example clean the coastline, plant trees or build hiking paths. Our work will also depend on weather conditions and that¿s why we have to be flexible. Please keep in mind that the work might be physically hard and you should be prepared for unfriendly weather, even though, hopefully, it will be nice most of the time. This is a perfect camp for people who like outdoor work and physical challenges. Leisure time: Worldwide Friends volunteers have free access to the local geothermal-heated swimming pool in Eskifjörður. Traditionally, natural pools have played an important social role in Icelandic culture. Most Icelandic pools offer indoor and outdoor swimming, as well as hot tubs and saunas or steam rooms. WF Iceland will organise reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights such as waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, lava forests, hot-springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents, or even icebergs. The area in the East is also good for hiking so please bring your hiking shoes. Accommodation and food: The volunteers will stay In the WF house in Eskifjordur. Beds and sheets will be provided and everyone is asked to bring his/her own warm sleeping bags and towels. The food will be supplied for the duration of the work camp and everyone is expected to do his/her fair share of the cooking/cleaning. It would be nice to try new and different dishes, so please remember to bring along recipes and specialities from your own countries. Language: The language of the camp is English. Terminal: Intl. Project Location: The village of Raufarhöfn is the community that lies farthest north in Iceland. It is located in the eastern part of Melrakkasletta close to the Arctic Circle. The population of Raufarhöfn is about 200 and most of the people there earn their living from fishing and fish processing. The harbor is very beautiful and partly shaped by nature itself. A wide and untouched open area surrounds the village with a lot of birds and varied vegetation. In summer one will observe wild migratory birds within the village being a part of the village life with the villagers most often waking up in the morning to the songs of birds. The coastline with its inlets and creeks is filled with driftwood and reaches out into the Arctic Sea. Away and on the surface of the sea various sea-birds will be spotted and an occasional seal. On the beach waders strut and inland on the grassy moorlands there are dozens of lakes filled with trout. In the vicinity many species of ducks, waders and species that favor heaths and moorlands may be observed. Work: This camp is about renovation, painting, cleaning and fixing things around the WF house. Raufarhofn is a very isolated place and in the same time very magical. We will work about 6 hours a day in order to make our house in the North a much better place to live. the house is old and we been using it in the last 4 years very much so it is the right time to renovate the place and give it a nice new look. Raufarhofn is a place full of energy and amazing landscapes. This is the right place to enjoy your free time taking photos and having walks around the coast line. For sure children and Youth from the village will very interesting to get to know you and take part in some of our cultural dinners or even workshops which we can develop if volunteers are happy and dynamic enough. If the weather allow us we will also work in cleaning the coast line around the town of Raufarhofn. Picking up garbage and making a better and cleaner place at least one or two days during the camp. This work camp is a way to enjoy an amazing time in Iceland with other international volunteers and to have an incredible experience where participants share their knowledge with each other while they are exploring creativity, environmental issues and intercultural learning. Leisure: There is few easy things to do in leisure time in Raufarhofn. There you can walk (about 18 km go and back) to the light house which is the most North Eastern point of Iceland. The line of the Arctic Circle frame that area of Iceland closing the water of Atlantic Ocean and opening the gates to the Greenlandic Sea. After having made the walk you can get a certificate in the local Hotel which confirms you visit to the Arctic Circle. Another positive thing about Raufarhofn especially if you like birds is that the village becomes a migrant birds nest giving so much life to the place. Raufarhofn is the Icelandic tundra, full of black and blue berries during the season. If you are volunteering while the berries season is taking place you will have the opportunity to make your own jam, brownies, cake and other delicious meals based on wild berries. Also the tundra area is full of lakes where fishing is easy to do and free as well. We will have some small fishing equipment to try to get some

Project and location: This is the eleventh time that we host this project and it has been one of the highlights each year. If you want to see the most famous musicians in Iceland or the once that are becoming famous than this is the good c amp for you. The Westman Islands consist in a group of fifteen islands which are situated at a short distance off the south coast of Iceland. They are so named because the Nordic settlers in the country called the Irish after which the islands are named after "westmen" (=the men from the west). All the islands have been created in submarine volcanic eruptions during comparatively recent geological time. The colourful town, the beautiful bird-cliffs, the new lava and volcano and the landscape in general give the islands a scenic interest as varied in character as any in the country. Heimaey is the largest and only inhabited island in the group and is Iceland´s longest off shore island with an area of 13,4 sq. km. Fishing and fish processing and subsidiary trades are the main source of income. Heimaey is sheltered to the north by low mountains and the imposing bird-life Heimaklettur, which protects the narrow cove at the end of which the harbour lies. The festival: On the first weekend of August, Icelanders celebrate the 1874 grant of Icelandic sovereignty with a huge festival in the town on Heimaey. The population moves into a tent city in the Herjolfsdalur, a short distance west of town, for an extended weekend of bonfires, dance, and song. The most famious bands in Iceland are usually entertaining the guests. This festival is the most popular one in Iceland. Work: The volunteers will help to keep the festival area clean, the work will last for 4 to 5 hours a day but the rest of the time the volunteers can enjoy this amazing festival which is the number one in Iceland when it comes to culture and music. Leisure time: Free access to the local swimming pool. Free access to all what is happening in the Festival Accommodation & Food: In the community and sport center of Heimaey offering basic facilities. Participants are asked to bring their own warm sleeping bags and mats. The food will be provided for the duration of the workcamp and everyone is expected to do their fair part of the cooking/cleaning. It would be nice to share new and different dishes, so please remember to bring along recipes from your own countries. Language: A basic knowledge of English is required for this workcamp. Terminal: Flights arrive at Keflavik International Airport (KEF), just south of Reykjavik, Iceland.

Project Location: Reykjavik is a city full of energy, just waiting for you to experience it. Powered by heat from the earth below, with ever-changing weather sweeping across the landscape, its natural features are matched by the energy of its residents. Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, culture, nature, clean air - and Reykjavik has them in spades. All the advantages of a modern, forward-looking society are complemented by the beautiful natural setting. In a country of only just over 300,000 people, the Reykjavik Capital Area has a population of about 200,000. However, since it¿s the only major city in the country, Reykjavik has a lot of the amenities that you would only expect to find in a much larger centre elsewhere in the world. Reykjavik is the world¿s northernmost capital city and is centred on the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula. Reykjavik is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay to the north, while rugged lava-fields spread to the southeast. On a clear sunny day, the Snaefellsjökull glacier glitters on the western horizon like a crystal. Work: The organization is renovating a farmhouse in the outskirt of Reykjavik 15 km away from the capital centre. Since the creation of Worldwide Friends, the organization has been looking for the opportunity to set up a project to renovate and work in farm. The volunteers will help us with the renovation and to take care of the work in the farm. We have chickens, a greenhouse for growing herbs, and a piece of land where we grow potatoes, carrots, lettuce and other types of vegetables. The volunteers will help with all the tasks related to the farm, the work is changing according to the seasons. Leisure: On weekends, the volunteers can enjoy Reykjavik¿s amazing nightlife, which is world-renowned for its wide array of bars, clubs, and concerts. WF Iceland will also organise reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights such as glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, geysers, lava forests, hot-springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents, or even icebergs. Accommodation and Food: Worldwide Friends volunteers stay in our house in Sveinsstadir which is located in the outskirt of Reykjavik. This place is like a farm in the city so you can enjoy pure nature and at the same time the city life of the capital. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bag and towels, but beds/mattresses and bed linens are provided. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge, and volunteers also have free access to shared desktop computers in communal areas. Food is included for the duration of the workcamp, however everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new

Project Location: Scoured by Ice Age glaciers, the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow fjords with steep sides and jagged peaks which contrast with inland fertile farmlands. In this area you will see some of the features that make Iceland a unique place in the world: spectacular fjords with a rich sea life, a great variety of birdlife, and countless breath-taking hiking paths. You will explore the area during your stay in the east. Work: This camp is about renovation, painting, cleaning and fixing the WF houses and the surounding area in Eskifjordur and/or Stodvarfjordur. We will work about 6 hours a day in order to make our houses a much better place to live. The house in Eskifjordur used to be the school of the village and it is more than 100 years old. The house in Stodvarfjordur was the local bank in the village. Both houses are located in very nice areas with a great view over the fjords and big mountains. The houses are now used for our volunteers. The volunteers will be supervised by a professional carpenter. This work camp is a way to enjoy an amazing time in Iceland with other international volunteers and to have an incredible experience where participants share their knowledge with each other while they are exploring creativity, environmental issues and intercultural learning. Leisure: WF Iceland will organise reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer. Our volunteers also have free access to the geothermal swimming pools in the area. Project and location: Neskaupstaður is a medium size town by Icelandic standards. With its 1.420 inhabitants, it has the largest population in the East Fjords. The town has been growing and prospering since the early 1900´s and is almost completely self sufficient thanks to the fishing industry. Sitting in the middle of nowhere, away from other villages and communities, the town is equipped with all the necessary facilities and stores: a bakery, a local dairy, supermarkets, banks, a post office, a school, a sports hall, a swimming pool, a church, a hospital, a harbour, a airstrip, a hotel, a jazz club, a rescue centre, etc. As a matter of fact, it has all the services and professionals you would expect in a larger town, with the exception of an optician! On the east side of town the wildlife reserve and a large recreational area facing the ocean. In the lower section of the reserve, called Hagi, lies the famous Páskahellir (Easter Cave), a rock vault over the shore. Holes left by thick, 10 to 12-million-year-old tree trunks can be seen inside the vault and, in true Icelandic spirit, various folk tales are associated with the cave. Neskaupstaður can be reached only driving through a one-way tunnel over the highest year round pass in Iceland. Eistnaflug is a metal festival in Iceland that has taken place annually since the summer of 2005. Eistnaflug is an indoor festival situated in Neskaupstaður a quaint little town located on the Norðfjörður fjord on the Eastern coast of Iceland, 700km away from Reykjavik It started out as a small one day metal festival on the 27th of August 2005 but has since grown into a four day festival where metal, hardcore, punk, rock and indie bands share the stage. The line up usually consists of 30-40 bands, most of which are Icelandic. Among foreign acts that have performed at the festival are At The Gates (SE), Tyrant (SE), Napalm Death (UK), Triptykon (CH), Secrets Of The Moon (DE) Hamferð (FO), The Monolith Deathcult (NL) and Cephalic Carnage (US). Domestic bands that have often played the festival include Sólstafir, Momentum, Innvortis, Saktmóðigur, Severed Crotch, Gone Postal, Carpe Noctem, Celestine and many more. Musically, Eistnaflug is also a remarkable melting pot, with a few selected, prime foreign acts stacking up against a massive selection of all the great things the Iceland music scene has to offer every year. There are no boundaries ¿ from indie rock to hardcore to black metal, everything that¿s good is accepted and embraced at Eistnaflug. Work: We will help the organizers of the festival to carry out different tasks. For example, we will take care of the venues before and after the concerts, control the access to the festival area and prepare the camping site. We will assist the local organization in keeping the area clean during the festival. We will also do some environmental work in cooperation with the local community before and after the festival.

This friendly little community sits on top of a highly active geothermal field, which provides heat for hundreds of greenhouses where fruit, flowers and vegetables are produced throughout the year. Even bananas grow in these greenhouses! The name Hveragerði means ¿hot springs garden.¿ Geothermal energy is Hveragerði¿s lifeblood, and you probably won¿t find such a natural wonder in the middle of a populated area anywhere else in the world. Our host is the Rehabilitation and Health Clinic, which is a part of the Natural Health Association of Iceland. Every year approximately 2,000 patients and other guests enjoy their diverse rehabilitation programs, which are focused on an approach that builds self-confidence and personal responsibility for the patients¿ own health. The Clinic has earned a solid reputation, both in Iceland and internationally, since its foundation in 1955 for personal and effective care of patients.
