TheLatviannationalcarrierairBalticopenednewroutestoBudapest(Hungary),Gdansk(Poland)andBari(Italy).TheIrishbudgetairlineRyanairexpandeditsroute

networkinthedirectionofRome(Italy)andLeeds(U.K.)whereasWizz Air–theCentralandEastEuropeanlow-costcarrierlaunchedflightstoEindhoven(theNetherlands).Turkish Airlinesin2011openedregulartraffictotheholiday

Theyear2011sawnewflightsfromRigaInternationalAirporttotheSweden’s

secondlargestcityGothenburgbeinglaunchedbytheairlineSkyways,whereasRyanairresumedflightstoBristolintheU.K.andTampereinFinland.Intotal,bytheendof2011fromRigaInternationalAirporttravellerscouldreach82destinations.

Punctuality RatioTheGroundHandlingDepartmentofRigaInternationalAirportattainedthe

historicallyhighestqualityratioinpassengerandaircrafthandling.ByprovidinghighqualityprofessionalservicestotheairlinestheGroundHandlingDepartmentreacheda99.76percentpunctualityenablingthepassengerstoarrive

attheirdestinationsontimeandsuccessfullyaccomplishtheirplans.Intheaviationindustrythisresultisconsideredexcellent.FromtheinternationalviewpointandcomparedwithotherEuropeanairports,RigaAirportinterms

Statistics of Passenger Traffic,Aircraft and Cargo

In2011RigainternationalAirportwelcomed5.1millionpassengers(9.5upyearonyear),andforthefirsttimeinitshistoryexceededthesignificantfigureoffivemillionbybreakingtherecordofannualpassengertraffic.On21DecembertheairportcelebratedthearrivalofitsfivemillionthpassengerMsDaceDižbite-Ose

whocameontheairBalticflightfromOslo.Byservingfivemillionpassengersperyear,accordingtotherankingofAirports Council International,RigaInternationalAirport

hasofficiallyjoinedtheranksofmedium-sizedairportsandinternationallywillnotbetreatedasasmallairportanymore.

Transferandtransitpassengerslastyearaccountedfor37percentofthetotalnumberofpassengershandledattheairport,andthemostpopulartransfer/transit

destinationswereVilnius,Tallinn,Helsinki,MoscowandBerlin.

In20112563970travellersdepartedfromRigaand2542956travellersarrivedinthecapitalofLatvia.

Inthetotalpassengertrafficin201166percentwerecarriedbythenationalcarrierairBalticand20percentbytheairlineRyanair.Incomparisonwiththeyear2010thenumberofpassengerswasboostedbytheairlinesWizz Air(+62%),Finnair(+40%)

andAeroflot(+34%).Thenumberofhandledaircraftlastyearroseby7percent(72855aircraft)andcargowasthreepercentup(12665t).

Renovation of Commercial AreasAV LATVIA and ATU Duty Free in 2011

TAVAirportsHoldingwasawardedthetenderofmanagementofthecommercialareasatRigaInternationalAirportfor10yearsandtheagreementwassignedon30September2010.Commercialplanningandrenovationactivitieswereinitiatedimmediatelyinordertoprovidethehighestservicequalityandbestindustrystandardstothepassengers,staffandotherstakeholdersofRigaInternationalAirport.Hence,TAVLATVIAwasfoundedtoactonbehalfofTAVGroupinLatviaandisproudtoquicklyincreasethecommercialstandardsandbecomethebestpartnerofRigaInternationalAirportthroughitsnetcontributionofmorethanten(10)millionEurosin2011.

Brand New Duty Free Experience

TAVAirportHolding’ssubsidiaryATUDutyFreestarteditsoperationinLatviaon01.01.2011.Themulti-millionEuroworthrenovationprojectlasteduntiltheendofDecember2011.RigaisuniqueasitisthefirststepofATUDutyFreetotheEuropeanUniongroundsandaddedanewdimensiontoitstravelretailservices:travel valueshoppingconceptwhereATUaimstoenticeallpassengersregardlessoftheirfinaldestination.

WhenATUDutyFreetookovertheoperationoftravelretailareasatRIX,all20storeswereoperatedby9differentcompanies,whichbecamesubcontractors.Graduallythisnumberdecreasedandseveralstoresweremergedtocreatemorespaciousones.Bytheendof2011,ATUDutyFreehas8storesofitsownand7subcontractorsin1307squaremeters.

OneofthefirstchangesATUDutyFreebroughttotravelretailinRigaisthefashionandaccessoriesstore,whichisalsothefirststorerenovated.PassengershavebeengiventheexclusivitytofindinternationalbrandssuchasHugoBoss,Prada,Gucci,EmporioArmani,MauriceLacroixSwarovski,Ray–Baninthisstore.

5InvestmentProjectsforAirportDevelopment

Cohesion Fund Project „Riga International Airport Infrastructure Development”TheEuropeanCommissionon25JulyapprovedtheCohesionFundco-financedproject„RigaInternationalAirportInfrastructureDevelopment”aimedatimprovingthetheairport’slandsideandairsideenvironment,toraisetheairtravelsafetystandardsandboostthecapacityofRigaInternationalAirport.

Theprojectincludesrenovationoftherunwaypavement(thelengthof2,470mandwidthof45m);strengtheningoftherunwaystrip,constructionofanadditionaltaxiway,modernisationoftheaerodromelightingsysteminordertofacilitateaircraftlandingandtake-offinunfavourableweatherconditionsandemergencysituations.Itisalsoplannedtoexpandandrenovatetheexistingaprons,buildtwoaircraftde-icingplatforms,reconstructthestormwaterandundergrounddrainagesystemandbuildanhangarforwashingofvehiclesandawastecollectionhangar.

Theconstructionworksarescheduledtostartinthefirsthalfof2012.Theprojectistobeaccomplishedby31December2013.

ThedirectlyattributablecostsoftheprojectamounttoLVL66945228ofwhich61percentorLVL41114034areco-financedbytheEUCohesionFundwhiletheairportwillcontribute39percentorLVL25million.

TheprojectispartoftheEUfundingprogramme„InfrastructureandServices”,Activity3.3.4.1„AirportInfrastructureDevelopment”andtheAgreementontheprojectimplementationwiththeMinistryofTransportwassignedon4August2010.

New Boarding GatesIntheterminalofRigaInternationalAirportthreenewboardinggateswereconstructedtoincreasethecapacityforhandlingthedeparturestothecountriesoftheSchengenarea.Thegateswerebuiltinlessthanfourmonthsbyreconstruct-ingthelockerroomsoftheairport’sgroundhandlingstaffonthegroundflooranddecreasingthepassengerflowtotheDeparturesSectorA.

TheconstructionworkswereperformedbythecompaniesArčersand Moduls-Rīga andthetotalcostsoftheprojectwere430thousandlats.

The Most Modern Bird Control Radar in EuropeSadly,everyyear40000aviationaccidentsintheworldarecausedbybirds.Thereforeitistheairport’sdutytoensuresafetake-offandlandingofaircraft.SinceFebruary2011abirdcontrolradarMERLIN™hasbeenoperatingintheterritoryofRigaInternationalAirport.

Itindicatesthelocationsofbirdactivityandthedirectionsofbirdmigration,determinestherisklevelinaspecificsectororaltitude(dependingonthebirds’weight,locationandflightdirection),producesvisualandsoundwarningsignals;automaticallysendsdailyreportstospecifiede-mailaddresses.Thedataareprocessedandstoredonaserver.

Theminimumrangeofoperationofthehorizontalradaris11km,oftheverticalradar–5.5km.

RigaInternationalAirportisthefirstairportinEuropewherethebirdcontrolisimplementedbytheradarsystemMERLIN™.

Oversize Baggage Belts and ImprovedWork ConditionsIn2011severalimprovementsweremadeinthepassengerserviceandthestaffworkconditions.InbotharrivalhallsofRigaInternationalAirporttheoversizebag-gagereclaimpointsareavailableforthepassengers’convenience.Atnon-standardbaggagereclaimpointsthepassengerscanpickuptheirbikes,skisandothertouristandsportsequipmentexceedingtheregularsizewithoutdisturbingtheirfellow-travellers. Intheterminal,inordertoimprovetheworkconditionsofthestaff,alightingsystematthelengthof66metreswasinstalledconsiderablyimprovingthelight-ingoftheworkstations.

Theinformationonarrivals/departures,checking-in,andclaimingofbaggagewasgreatlyimprovedbyinstallingninetynew LCDmonitorsintheairportterritory.Theyareofbetterqualitythanthepreviousonesand,apartfromtheflightinformation,theycantransmitannouncementsofothernewsimportantforpassengersandtheairport.

European Regional Development Fund Project „Introduction of New Services at SJSC Riga International Airport”TheInvestmentandDevelopmentAgencyofLatviaapprovedtheprojectofRigaInternationalAirportonintroductionofnewservicesandon19August2011theagreementwiththeagencywassignedonimplementationoftheproject.Withintheprojectframeworkelectronicsecuritycontrolgates(e-gates)willbeinstalled,anewbaggagereconciliationsystemintroducedaswellasthewirelessdatatransmissionnetworkestablishedattheairport.

E-gateswillbeinstalledforautomatedcheckingofboardingpassesandwillhelpeliminatedeliberateorunintentionalhumanerrors.Thesecuritye-gateswillprovidethepassengerswiththeopportunitytouseamobiletelephonemessageasaboardingpass.Itisanenvironmentfriendlysolutionastheprintedboardingpasseswillnotberequiredanymore.

Theprojectwillalsodealwithabaggagereconciliationsystem(BRS)ensuringthatthebaggagetravelsonthesameflightasitsownerandallthesecuritycheckshavebeenmade.Thepossibilityofbaggagebeinglostornotarrivingatitsdestinationwillbereducedtotheminimum.

Notably,theBRSwillgreatlysavethetimeneededforhandlingofbaggage.Theairportwillreceivetheinformationaboutthebaggageandwillbeabletoforwardittotheairportofdestination.

AnotherprojectactivityisintroductionofthewirelessdatatransmissionnetworkontheairportaproninordertoensurefunctioningoftheBRSandexchangeofinformation.

TotalcostsoftheprojectamounttoLVL381309.00withERDFcontributingLVL129641.64andtheAirportprovidingtherestofthefunds.TheprojectwaslaunchedinAugust2011andwillbeaccomplishedby19June2012.

Free High-Speed Wi-Fi Network In2011RigaInternationalAirportjointlywithSIA„ConnectIT”providedfreeaccesstoWi-Fihotspotsintheentireairportterminal.

Inordertousethisservice,theclienthastoconnecttoRIX Free WiFiandafterashortadvertisementthenecessarywebsitewillbeopened.TheunlimitedInternetresourcesarewithinaneasyreachnow.RigainternationalAirportisoneofrareairportsintheworldofferingWi-Fiservicefreeofchargethroughouttheterminal;bothonthelandsideandairside.ThefreeWi-Fiserviceisjustonemorewaytotellourclientsthattheyarewelcomeattheairport.

Sale of Travel Bags at the Airport SinceJanuary2011atthebaggagestorageareaofRigaInternationalAirport,inArrivalsSectorEonthegroundfloorashopoftravelbagsandsecuritylockshasbeenopenedforthepassengers.

Packing Materials for Transportationof Liquids Since1April2011atthebaggagestorageareaofRigaInternationalAirportanewservicehasbeenavailableforthepassengers-thematerialsforpackingliquidsubstancesintendedfortransportationintheholdbaggage.

AtthebaggagestorageareaintheArrivalsSectorEthepassengerscanbuyaboxfortransportationofliquidsfor5lats,includingVAT,andcheckitinadditionally.

New Privilege Added to theRIX Club Programme Since1December2011theloyaltyprogrammeofRigaInternationalAirporthasbeenofferinganewprivilegetoitsparticipants–theopportunitytousethebusinessloungeservicesfreeofchargefivetimesduringthevaliditytermoftheirRIX Clubcard.

Thenewprivilegewasmadeavailableaftertheairport’sagreementwithLatvia’snationalcarrierairBalticallowingRigaInternationalAirporttosignindependentagreementswithairlinesandorganisationswishingtousethebusinesslounge.

airBalticthatinDecember2011undertooktohosttheairport’sRIX Clubcardholderswillcontinuetoservethepassengersatthebusinesslounge.

RigaInternationalAirportexpectsthenewprivilegetodoublethenumberofRIX Clubcardholdersoverayear.Thepriceoftheprivilegeprogrammeremainsunchanged–LVL129peryear.

VIP Service –Comfort and Personal Attitude AccordingtothebestairportpracticestheVIPServiceofRigaInternationalAirportprovidestopclassservicestotheairportpassengersandvisitors.TheVIPCentrewelcomestheseniorofficialsofLatviaandothercountriesaswellascommercialclients–businesspeople,musicians,athletesetc.TheVIPCentreofRigaInternationalAirportoffersitsclients: •Classicservice, •Expressservice, •Exclusiveclientcards, •Venuesforbusinessnegotiations, •ExtraservicescontributingtoflawlessmeetingandseeingoffofVIPclients.

In2011theVIPCentrewelcomedarecordmonthlynumberofvisitors.InJulytheservicesoftheVIPCentrewereusedby1558clients. Intheyear2011theVIPCentrewelcomedandsawoffthepresidentsofArmeniaandAzerbaijanandPrinceofMonacowhocameonstatevisitstoLatvia.

Ground Handling Service Gets its Own Logo TheGroundHandlingDepartmentofRigaInternationalAirportin2011focussedonpromotionofitsbrandbydevelopingitsownlogotype.ThustheexistingandpotentialbusinesspartnerswillbebetterinformedandthenewlogowilltellthemthatRigaInternationalAirportprovidesgroundhandlingservicesofexcellentquality.

Thelogooftheairport’sGroundHandlingDepartmentisdevelopedonthebasisoftheairport’slogo,thecodeRIXassignedtotheairportbytheInternationalAirTransportAssociation(IATA)andletterRinaformofawingwithanEnglishinscription–Ground Handling–abbreviatedasGHandanaircraftsilhouetteinsertedintheletterG.

ThelogoiscreatedtoidentifywithRigaInternationalAirportandtheclassicalvaluespursuedbyit.

Tour Programme for Transfer PassengersRigaTourismDevelopmentBureau(RTDB)incooperationwithJūrmalaTourismInformationCentrehaspreparedtwobrochuresforthetransferpassengersofRigaInternationalAirport.OnecontainsthedescriptionofnineobjectsofinterestinRigawhiletheotherprovidestheinformationonnineobjectsinJūrmalaforthoseairpassengerswhohavemorethanthreehourstosparebetweentheirflights. Thestandwiththebrochuresisplacedatthetransittunnel.Thebrochuresarealsoavailableintheairport’stourismservicebureau„WelcometoRiga!”

FromJanuarytoDecember2011RigaInternationalAirportwelcomed5106926passengers,ofwhich1877572weretransfer/transitpassengers.ThebiggestnumberoftransferpassengersisbroughttotheairportbyLatvia’snationalcarrierairBalticoperatingflightsviaRigatoandfromdestinationsinEurope,Scandinavia,theMiddleEast,RussiaandtheC.I.S.countries.

The Bronze Level of the “Sustainability Index” On12May2011awardsweregiventoparticipantsofthe“SustainabilityIndex”campaignbasedontheassessmentoftheirperformancewithinfivefieldsofsustainableactivities.Forthefirsttime,afterparticipatingintheinitiative,RigaInternationalAirportattainedthebronzelevel.

WithintheSustainabilityIndex,companiescanqualifyinthebronzeandsilvercategoriesand,since2011,alsointhegoldcategory.

TheSustainabilityIndexforLatviancompaniesofferstheopportunityofusingauniquetoolforstrategicmanagementthatallowstheiractivitiestobeassessedandsuggestionstobereceivedfromspecialistsfortheirfuturedevelopment.Additionally,thegeneralpublic,thegovernment,andnon-governmentalorganisa-tionscanreceivereliableinformationontheactivitiesofbusinessesinthecountry,assessingtheireffortsandtheircontributiontoLatvia’slong-termdevelopment.

A Family-friendly Company On8September2011theMinistryofWelfareinasolemnceremonygrantedthecertificatesofthefamily-friendlycompanystatustotwelvecompaniesincludingRigaInternationalAirport.

ThetwelvecompaniesawardedthecertificateswereidentifiedandselectedinrelationwiththeSustainabilityIndexbydraftingthequestionnairesandincorporatingappropriatecriteriaregardingimplementationoffamily-friendlypoliciesinthecompany.

TheMinistryofWelfareassignedthestatusofafamily-friendlycompanytotheenterprisespursuingfamily-friendlypoliciesbothintheirbusinessactivitiesandinawidercommunitycontext,e.g.,byprovidingservicesandappropriatefacilities.

Main qualification criteria for the status are: •Complianceofthepremisesandaccommodationwithchildren’sneeds, includingthechildrenwithspecialneedsandfamilieswithtoddlers; •Healthcareforthestaffintheworkplace; •Focusonclient-orientedservices; •Renderingsupporttotheactivitiesdevotedtochildrenandfamilies; •Participationincharityinitiatives; •Thecompany’sfocusoneffectivecoordinationofworkandfamilylife,e.g. encouragingworkfromhome,flexibleorreducedworkinghoursetc.

Number Ten in the Corporate Reputation Survey In2011,SJSCRigaInternationalAirportreachedthetenthplaceamongst150ofLatvia’slargestcompaniesinthereputationlistarrangedbyNordsPorter-NovelliandthenewspaperDienas Bizness. Everyyear,150Latvianbusinessesareincludedinthesurveyforthecountry’stopcompaniesintermsoftheirreputation.Theyareselectedbytakingintoaccounttheirturnoverandmediapublicityfromthepreviousyear.

TheinformationforthecreationoftheLatvianenterprisereputationlistwascompiledbyconductingtwosurveysamongsteconomicallyactivemembersofthepublicandenterprisemanagersinLatvia.

Businessesareevaluatedandthereputationlistiscreatedbyindependentexperts.Therespondentsassessareassuchaswhetherthecompanyoffersgoodproductsandservicesandwhetheritisagoodemployer,whetheritmaintainsgoodcorporatecommunications,andwhetheritcaresaboutthewell-beingofsociety,islookingtowardsthefutureandisresponsiblefortheenvironment.

The Most Commended Company of 2011 AtthebeginningofApril2011,thecampaign“Praisegoodservice!”wascompleted,duringwhichcompaniesandthegeneralpublicwereaskedtopaycloserattentiontothecustomerserviceculture.Afterthecampaign,themostpraisedenterprisesandstateandmunicipalityinstitutionsinLatviawereannounced.

Thisyear,RigaInternationalAirportwasrankedamongstthemostcommendedcompanies,receivingaprizeinthe“Infrastructure”category.

TheleadersinthiscontestarethosecompaniesthatreceivethemostpositivefeedbackfromtheirclientsandthehighestevaluationinthesurveyconductedbyTNSLatviaoncustomerservicequality.

NationandEnvironmentThe Airport Chooses a Local Partner forAssisting PRM Passengers Inordertoprovideservicestopassengerswithreducedmobility(PRM),RigaInternationalAirporthassignedacooperationagreementwiththeorganisationSUSTENTO.Theairporthasdecidednottocommissionforeignconsultantsforthispurposeandthustosavenolessthan24thousandeuros.

Thecooperationagreementprovidesforreceivingofconsultations,draftingofthetrainingprogrammesectionsandsupplyofvariousvisualmaterials.

Specialassistanceoftheairportpersonnelisavailableuponarrivalattheairporttopeoplewithreducedmobility(inwheelchairs),withhearingandeyesightimpairments,withmentalconditionsorwithoutwardlyundetectabledisability,andtoseniorshavingdifficultytowalklongdistancesandusestairs.

ItshouldbeaddedthatthenumberofPRMpassengerswelcomedbyRigaInternationalAirportgrowswitheveryyear.

Open Door Day at the Air Gateway of LatviaLearningaboutthespecificworkoftheairport,touringtheterminalandareasnormallyrestrictedtovisitors,abusrideontheapronandtheopportunitytowatchtheaircraftatacloserange–suchwastheOpenDoorDayatRigaInternationalAirport.Overall,intheOpenDoorDayarrangedbythePublicAdministrationvisitorswerewelcomedat80organisationsthroughoutLatvia. ElevengroupsofschoolchildrenfromdifferentplacesofLatviahadbookedavisittotheairport.“HavinglearnedabouttheOpenDoorDayandafreevisittotheairportwedecidedtousethisopportunity.Itwouldbeniceifthereweremoreplaceswerepupilscouldgoandfindoutusefulthings,”saidAijaZvaigznīte,teacherofForm9,AndrejsUpītis’SecondarySchoolofSkrīveri.

Thevisitorsweretakenonaguidedtouroftheairportterritorystartingfromtheterminalwheretheywereshownthechecking-inprocedure,thesecuritycontrolandtakenonabusaroundtherunwaythatis3kmand200mlong.TheyoungsterswerefascinatedbytheairplanesstandingontheapronandtheexhibitsintheAviationMuseum.Thetourendedatthebaggagereclaimareawherethepupilsassumedtheroleofarrivingpassengersandlearnedwhattodoifyourbagdoesnotarriveonthebaggagebelt.Finallythepupilswereinvitedtowatchthepresentationabouttheairportandtolearnmoreaboutheairportprocessesandtheworkdonebytheairportstaff.

Spring Cleaning of the Airport Territory On30April2011theairportstaffwithfamiliesandfriendstookpartintheannualBigSpringCleaningCampaignbycomingtogetherandtidyinguptheenvironment.Thesloganofthecampaign„Livebeautifully!Givejoytoyourselfandothers!”

Inthebigspringcleaning175peopleparticipatedandcollectedapproximately400bagsofwaste.AfterthegoodworktheycouldenjoyrestinatentwheretherestaurantGutenbergstreatedthemtosoupandtea,themusiciansofthebandTutti FruttiplayedandtheStreetAthletesshowedtheirskills.

IntheBigSpringCleaningCampaignacompetitionwasheldforthetitleoftheCampaign’sMostEnthusiasticDepartment2011,wonbytheFinanceDepartment.EveryemployeeofthedepartmentreceivedatickettoRigaZoologicalGarden.

Supporting Social Projects In2011RigaInternationalAirportrendereditssupportandparticipationinseveralsocialprojectsofpublicimportance.

InhonourofEarthDayandwithintheframeworkoftheproject„theGreenhouseEffect”inApril2011arealgreenhousewasinstalledatRigaAirportwithinformationmaterialsontheclimatechange,globalwarming,sustainableconsumptionanddevelopmentaswellaswithexamplesofgoodpractice.TheeventwasarrangedbyEuropeDirectInformationCentreinRigajointlywiththeLatvianChamberofCommerceandRigaInternationalAirport.ThepartnersoftheprojectwereWorldWildlifeFund,theSustainableDevelopmentAgency,SIA Gribu visuandSIAPadod tālāk.Thegoaloftheprojectwastocreateaplatformfordiscussionsonglobalwarmingandsustainableconsumption. TheEuropeanConsumerCentre(ECC Latvia)jointlywiththeConsumerRightsProtectionCentre(CRPC)andthesocietyIecavas sieviešu klubs LiepasinJuly2011arrangedaone-daycampaignsupportedbytheEuropeanCommissionAviationPassengers’ Rights DayatRigaInternationalAirport.Astheairtrafficandthenumberofusersofaviationservicesgrow,sodoestheimportanceofbeinginformedoftheairpassenger’srights,thepossibilitiesoftheirimplementationandtheairlines’dutiesinproblemsituations.

InJanuary2011thesocietyPatvērums Drošā māja(Shelter Safe Home)heldanawarenesscampaignFictitiousMarriage–a Trap! attractingtheairportclients’attentiontooneoftheformsofhumantrafficking–fictitiousmarriage.Thegoalofthecampaignwastoinformthepublicoftheunderlyingrisksofconcludingfictitiousmarriageswiththird-countrycitizenswithorwithoutmonetaryrecompense.

InJuly2011aBloodDonationDaywasarrangedattheairport.TheNationalBloodServicebusstoppedattheshort-termcarparkP1andeveryemployeeoftheairportortheairporttenantcompanieswasgiventheopportunitytogiveblood.

Helping Those Who Need It MostRigaInternationalAirportasasociallyresponsiblecompanysupportscharityorganisationsonadailybasisbyallocatingplacesfortheirdonationcollectingstandsintheterminal.Thuseveryairportvisitorandemployeecanextendahelpinghandtothoseorganisationsallyearround.OntheairsideoftheairportterminaltherearetendonationstandsofsuchcharityorganisationsasJuglas Dzīvnieku aizsardzības grupa(Jugla Animal Protection Group),LatvijasSarkanais Krusts(Latvian Red Cross),Latvijas Nacionālās bibliotēkas Atbalsta biedrība (Society for Support of the National Library of Latvia),SOS bērnu ciematu asociācija (Association of the SOS Children’s Willages),Latvijas Bērnu fonds(Latvian Children’s Fund)andthecharitymissionDzīvības ēdiens(Food for Life).

Oneoftheorganisationsthathashelditsstandfortheentireyear2011isJuglas Dzīvnieku aizsardzības grupathatexistsonlythankstodonationsandformorethantenyearshasmaintainedadogshelterinRigaforstray,abandonedandhomelessanimals.Theshelterrescuesmorethan250dogseveryyearandfindsnewhomesforthem.TheheadoftheshelterLindaZirdziņatoldthat,„thankstothedonationboxinstalledattheairportinthefirsttenmonthsof2011morethanLVL2000werecollectedformaintenanceoftheanimalshelter,whichisasignificantsumindeed.”

ThestaffofRigaInternationalAirporttakeanactivepartinthecharitycampaignsarrangedattheairport.ForthreeyearsalreadyRigaInternationalAirporthasbeencooperatingwiththeLatvianSocietyforSupportofLow-incomePeople„Dace”.Theairportrespondedtothesociety’sinvitationtoparticipateintheactivity„FromHearttoHeart”thattookplacetwicein2011.Theairportemployeescoulddonatetheitemsofdailyusetothelow-incomefamiliesofLatvia.Theairportstaffrenderedmaterialsupporttothefamiliesandthechildrenwithspecialneedsgrowinginthesefamilies. ThechairmanofthesocietyDaceDimitrijevaexpressedimmensegratitudetoRigaAirportstaffforthedonationstothepeoplewhoaregoingthroughadifficulttimeandareonthebreadline.Todateapproximately740householdsareregisteredwiththesocietyandareinneedofmaterialsupport.

In2011SJSCRigaInternationalAirportcelebratedthetwentiethanniversaryofitscorporatestatus.Intheframeworkofthe

anniversarytheairportadministrationandtheMinistryofTransportcongratulatedthe

airportveteranemployees.

ThestaffofRigaAirportareinexcellentphysicalconditionandweproveitevery

yearbyparticipatinginNordeaRigaMarathonandothersportsevents.

Tomakethetimespentbythepassengersattheairportmorepleasantandtosupport

youngartists,RigaInternationalAirportseveraltimesayearturnsintoanexhibition

hall.In2011attheairportterminalthepassengerscouldviewtheexhibitionof

SandraSileviča’scanvaspaintings“Summer’sGlory”,thephotographsoftheLatvian

OlympicCommittee„MeettheOlympicAthletes”andtheworksofthepupilsofĶekava

artschoolpresentedbyĶekavaMunicipality“LatviaThroughthePrismofĶekava”.

TheGermancarrierLufthansacelebrateditstwentiethanniversaryofoperationsatRigaAirport.Thearrivinganddepartingpassengersofthejubileeflightgotaspecialwelcomeandtheaircraftwasreceivedattheairportwithcheersandwaterchristening.

BytakingpartintheShadowDayeveryyearinFebruaryRigaInternationalAirportgivesschoolchildrentheopportunitytospendadayattheairportandlearnaboutvariousjobsthushelpingthemchoosetheirfutureprofession.

Sincetheyear2004whenIreland’slow-costcarrierRyanair starteditsoperationsatRigaAirportsevenyearshaveelapsedandfivemillionpassengersofthisairlineserved…

Theairportistheplacethatoftengetsintothefocusofattentionwhen

wewelcomeorseeoffLatvianorforeignofficialsandcelebrities.
