The College Application ProcessYOU are responsible for:

• Application & Fee– Common App. or College Web Site– If Common App., complete supplements

• Essays/Writing (part of application)– Send directly to colleges via application

• Teacher Recommendations– Provide teachers with addressed envelopes and

proper postage. Teachers should send recommendations directly to colleges.

online, you must print out ANY forms your high school must complete (Secondary School Report Form/ Teacher Evaluation Form, etc.).

• You can “invite” a teacher to submit their rec online via Common Application (communicate with teacher)

• Thank the teacher

Fall 2012• Schedule appointment with Guidance Counselor.• Complete resume/brag sheet and return to Guidance• Register to take/retake ACT/SAT/Subject Tests.

– Send scores to colleges. – Send scores to WHS (School Code 220745) .

• Check out military academy and ROTC deadlines.• Meet with college representatives when they visit WHS. • Attend local college fairs. {QHS on 10/18 (6-8pm)}

• Plan college visits and interviews. Seniors are allowed three (3) excused absences for college visits

• Parents/Students attend Admissions Evening (10/18 @6:30pm)

• Get involved in extra-curricula's …build that resume!

Fall 2012• Finalize teacher (1-2) and guidance counselor recommendations.• Finalize list of colleges & their

application deadlines (safety, possible and reach).• Continue work on application essays. Ask

teachers to review drafts. • Prepare Early Decision (Binding)/Early Action

(Non-Binding) applications and submit them for November deadlines.

• Complete the CSS Profile Form (starting Oct. 1) if colleges require it for application or financial aid.

November• November 1-15th: Early

Decision/Action Deadlines.• Apply for a PIN. PIN is

used as electronic signature for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) http://www.pin.ed.gov.

• Complete Transcript Release Form (TRF) and return to Guidance Counselor at least two weeks prior to date you want application sent.

• Provide manila/standard white envelopes to Guidance Counselor with printed addresses of colleges and appropriate postage (3-4 stamps).
