WhoorWhatisNewInsights?

WhatisthebusinessofNewInsights? We train people to become great life coaches … that’s it, pure and simple! More formally … Our mission is to be a commercially successful force for good, by training, empowering and supporting an international network of life coaches who feel inspired to bring personal freedom, confidence and growth to people from all walks of life, through their coaching.

InwhatcountriesdoesNewInsightsoperate? We operate primarily through two companies, registered in England and South Africa respectively. Although the distribution of our training material is conducted from these two countries we are able to provide training and support to trainee coaches pretty much wherever they choose to live in the world.


How?DoesNewInsightsrunofficesallovertheworld? No. ☺ Our business model involves a home study approach to coach training that completely removes the need for premises from which to conduct training. This approach allows us to keep the cost of training down to very reasonable levels while offering flexibility and convenience for our customers who can study and practice in their own time and at their own pace.

By‘homestudy’,doyoumeandistancelearningorcorrespondencelearning? We prefer the term ‘home study’ to ‘distance learning’ or ‘correspondence learning’ even though these terms all refer to the same approach to instruction and learning. The latter two terms are a little too cold and ‘remote’ for our liking. We pride ourselves on building warm, approachable, caring and supportive relationships with those that choose to train with us. So, no matter where you may be in the UK or South Africa, or anywhere in the world for that matter, we aim to make you feel close to and part of the New Insights ‘family’. ☺

What’sthedifferencebetween‘homestudy’andonlinetraining?

You will learn, later in this booklet, that our certification training is both broad based and comprehensive in nature. We cover a lot of ground in order to give our coaches-to-be the best possible training and preparation for their new careers. For this reason, we believe the study material is best distributed in physical, printed – rather than electronic – format.

The printed study manuals and coaching guide are really convenient, easy to


use and apply and always available to you as an ongoing handy reference.

That said, New Insights does make extensive use of email and various online facilities to support its trainees and students.

HowlonghasNewInsightsbeeninthebusinessoflifecoachtraining? New Insights was founded in 2003 in the UK. Our South African company started up in 2007. Rest assured that New Insights is passionate, knowledgeable and pretty experienced when it comes to the business of life coaching and life coach training!

OnwhatmainprinciplesisNewInsightsfounded? Life coaching, to be authentic, has to be based on complete trust, integrity, respect and fair exchange between coach and client. Those are the very same principles, or values, that we embrace at New Insights and that we aim to uphold in the relationships that we build with all of our ‘customers’. By ‘customers’ we mean our introductory course students, our certification programme trainee coaches and our certified coaches.

DoesNewInsightsofferbursaries? No. New Insights is a commercial – not an academic – institution. We do not receive any government grants or subsidies or any other form of external funding apart from our course and related fees. Therefore, we are unfortunately not in a position to offer bursary or scholarship programmes. So, although we do not offer academic degree or diploma courses, we do offer life coach certification training that, with all modesty, we believe goes above and beyond to be up there with the very best available in the market.


WhoisbehindNewInsights? There are a number of passionate people involved in New Insights, both in South Africa and the UK. The two companies that represent New Insights’ interests are both headed up by Bill Burridge who is currently the driving force behind the brand. Bill was born in England of British parents and has lived and worked extensively in both the UK and South Africa, where he now lives with his wife and family. Bill holds a postgraduate MBA degree as well as a degree in civil engineering. He spent twenty-seven years in corporate employment, the last six of which were spent in London on assignment with a British multinational. The story of how Bill came to be involved with New Insights is rather too long to reprint here. More detail can be found on the New Insights websites. Suffice it to say that he was entering a period of major change when, seemingly by coincidence (he now accepts it was synchronicity) he came to meet up with the previous owner of New Insights, who, in turn, encouraged him to sign up for life coaching with a New Insights certified life coach. In the process, Bill was able to crystallise his life purpose, namely motivating and inspiring others. He also fell in love with the power and simplicity of the New Insights coaching system and approach, and decided it was the perfect vehicle with which to pursue his passion. WhatMakes NewInsightsTrainingDifferent?

WhyshouldIgiveseriousconsiderationtoenrollingwithNewInsights? There are many ways in which we like to think we’re different from other life coach training institutes but here are five main things that we believe help us to ‘stand out of the crowd’! (1) New Insights is totally dedicated to life coach training excellence.

We are in the business of training and supporting people to become great life coaches. That’s it … pure and simple. That’s our passion and that’s what we like to think we do really well. Oh, and as we said, we’ve been doing it successfully now for many years! Our training leaves nothing out. We want you to be the best you can be, so we give you everything we’ve got, covering all the bases!

(2) Our training is built, not around our needs, but around the needs of

those that train with us.

We don’t have ‘intakes’ or specific registration periods. You simply register/enrol whenever it suits you! We’ll courier deliver your


programme material to your door within a few days of you enrolling, so you can start straight away … or whenever the time is right for you.

Our certification programme is totally home study based. You have the convenience and flexibility to work in your own time and at your own pace without having to travel anywhere, not even for theory and practical assessment purposes.

Whether you are a ‘hare’ or a tortoise’ we’ll offer suggestions for developing a plan for completing the certification requirements that’s best for you. At the end of the day, how and when you study and practice is entirely up to you. With New Insights training you’re in complete control.

(3) We offer a wonderful, tried and tested life coaching system.

What sets New Insights apart from most other training institutes is our life coaching system, designed around our proprietary INSIGHTS coaching model. The system has proven really effective in bringing about personal transformation over a programme of fifteen coaching sessions.

This cleverly conceived and well-structured system comes with detailed, eye-catching coach, coaching and client notes that will really impress your clients and make your job so much easier. You’ll find this particularly comforting when you first start out. Once certified you will have the choice whether to license this system from us or use your extensive training to go it alone (or both!)

We know that our credibility goes hand in hand with the credibility of the coaches we turn out, so maintaining high quality training and support is of critical importance to our business. Giving great support is part and parcel of the New Insights ethos. We aim to be friendly, helpful and responsive, whether that is via telephone, email or our online facilities. At the same time, we will never be directive. The how and when of training is your choice. You are fully responsible and you are always in control!

(5) We operate internationally

You can train with New Insights no matter where in the world you live. You may pay a little more for delivery of your programme material than if you were in the UK or South Africa, where our companies and distributors are based, but other than that you won’t notice the difference. ☺ There are currently New Insights certified coaches practising successfully in many corners of the globe, from Europe to Australia, Canada to Kenya, Hong Kong to the UAE. The principles we impart – and the coaching system we advocate – are relevant and applicable no matter where in the world you choose to live and work. The only minor restriction is that our coach training material and coaching system notes are currently offered in just one language – English.

DoesNewInsightspromoteanyspecificphilosophy? No. The content included in the New Insights training derives from many different sources, including a wide range of leaders and thinkers in the field of human motivation, all with their own unique philosophies, ethnic backgrounds and/or religious and other beliefs. The programme is designed to be suitable for people from diverse backgrounds and persuasions. We aim to be inclusive


and respectful in our approach to anyone who chooses to train with us. We try to promote an open-minded approach to learning and, although, from time to time, we offer our views on certain aspects of the training, we do not advocate or seek to impose any one specific philosophy, doctrine or religious perspective.

DoesNewInsightstrainingincorporateNLP? NLP or Neuro-linguistic Programming has become quite popular of late, particularly as a tool to aid communication and personal development. It was developed in the 1970s by two researchers at Santa Cruz university in California. Some life coach training institutes have chosen to base their life coach training exclusively on NLP. In our opinion, although NLP has an important place, it should not be the only place in a quality broad based, comprehensive life coach training programme.

What we, at New Insights, don’t like so much about NLP is the name. We find it a little complicated and distracting. It tends to force people to use the acronym, which doesn’t mean much either for most people!

At New Insights, we generally prefer to steer away from an overly academic approach to training in favour of an approach that resonates with ordinary people and is easy to apply. So, in summary, yes, we do incorporate NLP into our training, specifically in the module that deals with communication. That said, NLP is just one of many relevant philosophies and techniques you can look forward to covering in the programme. ☺

HowdoestheProgrammeachieveitsaim? The requirements for New Insights certification ensure you achieve a number of key objectives during the training:

• Develop a high level of self awareness;

• Develop a sound and comprehensive understanding of the ethics, knowledge and skills required to become a great life coach;

• Gain exposure to substantial real world (non classroom based) practice coaching experience (that equates to more than 50 hours in total);

• Develop confidence and competence in the application of – the New Insights Life Coaching System for personal transformation;

• Understand what is required to establish and sustain a successful life coaching practice.

Arethereanypre-requirementsbeforeIenrolfortheNewInsightscertificationtraining? There are no formal qualifications or pre-requirements and you do not need to complete our Introductory course prior to enrolling for the full training. However, we would suggest you do a little introspection and ask yourself the following three questions:

• Do I have a real passion for working with people and helping them to change for the better, grow and achieve their goals and dreams?

• Am I a thoroughly honest and ethical person?

• Am I an open-minded person, willing to develop my self awareness, grow as a person and be prepared to learn a lot about myself and how other people ‘tick’?

We would expect you to say a confident ‘Yes’ to all three. ☺


WhatdoestheProgrammeconsistof? Our intention in developing this Programme was a simple one … … to design and deliver, in home study format, the very best broad based life coach training programme – and one that is convenient to study, affordable, highly effective and easy to apply in coaching. We supply a detailed Programme Guide that acts as the starting point for new trainee coaches. The Guide sets out exactly what is required of the trainee, what resources and means of support are available, and how to access them. Other than the Programme Guide the Programme consists of three essential elements. These are backed up with various online resources and responsive, caring support throughout the certification period and beyond: 1. The Theory element

Comprehensive skills training theory, comprising seven individual modules (presented in printed manual format).


Each module builds progressively on the previous models, until, ultimately, every aspect of life coaching has been covered in some detail. This is all done in an easy to follow, non-academic style, with hundreds of visuals, examples, exercises, suggested actions, famous quotes and reflective insights throughout. 2. The Practical element

Extensive practical experience in the form of hands-on, real world practice coaching (totalling in excess of 50 hours) using the New Insights Life Coaching System and the free-form approach. Certified coaches can, optionally, choose to license the System for use in their practices. The System follows a structured approach to personal transformation designed around the INSIGHTS life coaching model (see ‘What Makes New Insights Training Different’). It typically spans 15 coaching sessions. The System includes a beautifully designed set of coaching and client notes used to facilitate the running of each session. It also comes with a detailed reference guide and videos explaining just how to run each session and exactly how to use each of the coaching and client notes.


New Insights has a simple yet important code of ethics that underpins the application of the Coaching System and that trainee coaches are required to abide by in their practice coaching.

3. The Business Practice Support element Additional modules are provided to assist the successful trainee coach to start and maintain a healthy and viable life coaching practice. These modules contain a wealth of information drawn from many years of experience in the industry, and include:

• How to develop a business plan for the practice. • Psychology and techniques for easily and effectively selling one’s

services as a coach. • Advice on how to market and sustain a successful coaching practice.

WhendoestheProgrammestart? We don’t have ‘intakes’ like most other institutes. With New Insights you can register/enrol and start whenever it suits you. Once you have completed the registration requirements, we will deliver your Programme material, via courier, to your door. This normally happens within a week, so you can get started very quickly after enrolment, if you wish.

HowlongdoestheProgrammetaketocomplete? Remember that this is a self-paced home study Programme, so a lot will depend on you and the number of hours you can allocate to it each week. You set your own agenda. ☺ In our experience, having worked with both ‘hares’ and ‘tortoises’, you can, as a guideline, expect to take somewhere between nine and eighteen months to complete certification, including study of the theory, practice coaching and completion of the assessment requirements.


Remember too, that this is a comprehensive, professionally designed Programme. In total you can expect to invest around 300 hours or so in training, although this will differ somewhat from individual to individual. Full time study can substantially reduce the time taken to complete the theory element but the time required to complete the practical element will depend on the nature and availability of your chosen practice clients. A realistic goal that many of our trainees aim for, is to complete the Programme within twelve months of enrolling. At the end of the day, however, time to complete the Programme will depend on you and your needs and lifestyle.

Isthereacaponthetimeallowedtocompletecertification?

Yes.

Through our accreditations we offer an assurance of a high quality and standard of training. This requires us to set a realistic cap on the duration allowed. We want you to start your coaching practice with your newfound awareness, knowledge

and skills still relatively fresh in your memory.

The time limit for achieving certification is therefore set at a generous two years from the date of your registration/enrolment.

WhatinvestmentisrequiredforthisProgramme? The up to date fees are listed on our website. Please refer to ‘How do I find and navigate around the New Insights website’ above, to be guided to find the fees and payment options link on our website.


Doyouofferoptionstopaythefeesoffoveraperiodoftime? Yes, you may apply for one of our Easy-Pay-Plan options where you pay a modest initial fee, followed by the balance over either 6, 12 or 18 months. Payment by Easy-Pay-Plan requires the set up of a monthly debit order. For this purpose you may choose either an account with a South African bank or a valid Master/Visa credit card. HowdoesNewInsightsassessitstraineelifecoaches?

To achieve our standard level of certification, you will be required to:

• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the skills training theory. On completion of each of the seven Modules you are required to complete and submit a self test assignment. This then unlocks access to a set of model answers, which you can watch on video or download in document form. On completion of all seven Modules, and after some exposure to practice coaching, you are required to complete an exam. This can be booked for any working day that suits you and can be completed from your home or place of work. There is no need to travel anywhere.

• Commit to conduct practice coaching in accordance with the New Insights code of ethics. In simple terms, the code requires you to commit to do only good for your clients and cause them no harm. You are required to sign and submit a one-page declaration to abide by the code.


• Complete extensive practice coaching with volunteer clients. This is done primarily using the New Insights Life Coaching System as directed in the Coaching Session Guide. We require a specific number of sessions to be coached as set out in the Programme Guide. As a rough guideline this would involve more than 50 hours of coaching experience.

We assess your progress in mastering the sessions through feedback forms that New Insights provides and that your volunteer clients are asked to submit. You will also be required to complete and submit a self-reflection questionnaire on completion of all of the practice coaching.

WhatisthedifferencebetweentheCLASSICandPROcertificationtracks/optionsofferedbyNewInsights? When you first register with New Insights you will be asked to choose between two certification tracks that we refer to as CLASSIC and PRO. Both tracks will give you access to the exact same learning material, coaching system and resources and involve the same methods of assessment. We designed the original (CLASSIC) Life Coach Training and Certification Programme as a home study course to offer the maximum convenience and flexibility. Although we specifically designed the Programme for self study and we include a high level of responsive and caring support throughout the certification process, we recognised that some trainees will appreciate – and


are prepared to pay for – the added value of having an experienced coach to coach and mentor them along the way. Therefore, in 2012 we introduced the PRO certification option, or 'track', to suit the needs of such trainees. In addition to requiring PRO level trainees to be coached through each of the sessions that make up the New Insights Life Coaching System, we added a further certification requirement, viz. that of submitting recordings of two practice coaching sessions for our scrutiny and objective assessment of competency. The added requirements contribute to a somewhat more advanced form – or second level – of certification that we refer to as a Certificate of Competency as opposed to the Certificate of Completion that we normally issue. The higher fees for the PRO certification track include payment for up to twenty hours of coaching by a highly experience coach, as well as up to six hours of video assessment by another highly trained coach. WhatkindofcertificatedoesNewInsightsofferoncompletionoftheProgramme?

You will receive a professional looking Certificate of Completion that will detail your achievements and display the appropriate blue New Insights Certified Life Coach identifier (which will also be made available for you to display on your marketing material). Upon achieving PRO level certification, New Insights will issue a Certificate of Competency. This will display the red New Insights Certified PRO Life Coach identifier (which will also be made available for you to display on your marketing material).


WhatformofaccreditationdoestheNewInsightsLifeCoachTrainingandCertificationProgrammecarry? New Insights carries a number of accreditations and/or endorsements. The following are likely to be the most relevant to you: CPD Standards Office

Our Programme proudly carries formal accreditation by the CPD Standards Office, an international, independent accreditation board based in the UK, that specifically accredits high quality training and learning courses and activities. The CPD Standards Office is overseen by an Expert Advisory Board comprising professional experts drawn from academia, employers and professional bodies and works with the support of an increasing number of professional bodies, universities and employers. The CPD mark is your assurance of high quality training that has been carefully assessed by independent experts for its ability to meet its purpose. International Coaches Register

New Insights is also an accredited agency member of the International Coaches Register (ICR). The ICR is a 100% independent international register of coaches. The body is a subsidiary of the Global Network Group and is supervised by the ICC Council. The ICR is ISO 9001:2015 certified. New Insights trained and certified coaches are welcomed as members of the ICR. COMENSA

COMENSA (Coaches and Mentors Association of South Africa) is the pre-eminent coach representative body in southern Africa.


New Insights Africa has been a member in good standing almost since COMENSA’s inception. We have contributed to the formulation of many of its policies and standards. New Insights carries Registered Coach Training Provider status, meaning that our policies and training have been quality assured and assessed by COMENSA. This is an important requirement for coaches who aspire to achieve credentialed coach status with that organisation.

Many of our trained coaches choose to take up membership of the local body COMENSA. Others prefer membership of the ICR and the international exposure that gives them. Some choose membership of both, while others choose not to be affiliated with any specific body. Membership of a professional body is not mandatory in order to practise as a life coach. It can, however, be very beneficial when it comes to ongoing professional development and can offer the life coach other advantages. It’s a personal choice!

New Insights Life Coaching 101 consists of three easy-to-read, information-packed Modules. These include numerous thought provoking ideas, examples and practical exercises. The course is assessed through two short assignments and an exam. After successful completion a certificate will be issued. Module One is titled Life Coaching … Explained and will help you understand:

• how it differs from other forms of coaching;

• what it’s really like to be a life coach; and

What,ifany,supportdoesNewInsightsofferaftercertification? We are sincerely interested in your success as a coach. That’s why we include, in our certification training, substantial material aimed at helping you plan, market and sustain a successful, vibrant coaching practice. The responsibility for reading, acting on and doing justice to this material is yours – it doesn’t form part of our assessment but we can assure you it will give you a vital advantage when the time comes to set up your practice. Once you gain certification, you’ll be entitled to use our certified coach identifier on all of your marketing material. You can also choose whether you would like to use the transformational 15-session New Insights Life Coaching System in your practice. For a very modest fee you can gain for Licensed


Practitioner Coach status (licence renewable annually) and access an augmented identifier and the many additional benefits that this status conveys. It’s certainly not our intention to provide you with training and then wave goodbye. We’d like to keep in touch with you and hear how you’re getting on, so we’ll keep you on our coach database and you’ll continue to benefit from our regular Blog posts, updates and other community activity. As a New Insights Certified Life Coach in good standing you’ll always be welcome to contact us for advice.

CanNewInsightsofferanyfurtherassistancewithmarketingmypractice?

Yes. We have online life coach directories (websites) set up in South Africa and the UK. These directories are exclusively available to New Insights Licensed Practitioner Coaches.

For a modest subscription fee a coach can apply to list a detailed profile on the appropriate directory and enjoy the benefits of public exposure through a dedicated website that is searchable using many useful filtering parameters.

WillNewInsightshelpmeestablishthecorrectfeerateformyservices? What you decide to charge for your services is entirely up to you. Once you have gained certification you will be a fully independent life coach. New Insights does not prescribe your fees, nor would we want to. However, during the course of your training we will teach you the importance of engaging in fair exchange with your clients while properly valuing what you have to offer.


You can easily get a good idea of what others are charging from browsing the relevant life coach directory.

WilltheNewInsightsProgrammepreparemetocoachinaspecificniche,suchashealthandwellnessforexample? Yes … and No. ☺ As you can probably imagine, the number of different ‘niche markets’ that you could target as a life coach is limited only by your imagination. Health and wellness coaching is just one of many we mention in our other free booklet on life coaching and becoming a life coach. The New Insights Life Coach Training Programme and Life Coaching System is sufficiently broad based to prepare you to coach effectively, no matter which niche (or group of people) you may choose to target. What the programme cannot teach you is the skills you may decide you need to know outside of coaching. For example, if you choose to focus your coaching on people facing retirement, you cannot expect the Programme to equip you to understand the specific issues that such people face. Likewise, with health and wellness, we cannot equip you with specific dietary plans or health advice for your clients. If you decide to coach in a specific niche or niches where you feel a special skill or understanding is required that you do not already possess, then you will, naturally, need to find additional training that specifically covers that.

Coaching System are universally applicable. As mentioned previously, the only restriction would be that the System and associated session coaching notes are available in only one language – English. We are privileged to have trained coaches who are practising successfully in a number of different countries around the world. In addition, there are many South African coaches who are marketing themselves successfully to international clients who see the benefits of the advantageous exchange rate. Remote coaching, using free voice-over-Internet technology such as Skype and Zoom for example, makes this easy to do. The transformational 15-session New Insights Life Coaching System is designed with coaching and client notes available in fillable Adobe PDF format, perfect to complement either face-to-face or remote coaching. The System is explained in detail in our Coaching Session Guide.

Whatif,duringmystudies,Idecidethatcoachingisnotforme? One of the great things about doing this Programme is the personal transformation that you can look forward to as a result. By personally taking on board all of the concepts, tools and techniques that New Insights life coaches use, you will almost certainly experience substantial growth and development.
