What drew you to Southpointe? After an exhausting search of neighborhoods, school districts and custom builders, we agreed upon Iron Wood II. Due to the beautiful wooded lots, peaceful surrounding, culde-sac and the ability to walk through South Pointe via sidewalks confirmed this is home.
Are you both from the area? Sean is a graduate of Canon-McMillan and is stunned by the transformation the community has made, and Angela grew up in neighboring Scott Twp. and graduated high school from Chartiers Valley.
Professions: Sean is a logistics solution professional with Ryder System, Inc. which is a publicly traded fortune 500 company. His title is Business Develop-ment Manager. Angela is a former 8-year Generals Club Award Winner formerly with GBC, a Division of Acco Brands who now enjoys being a stay-at-home mom and volunteering at the school.
Kid’s Activities: Giavonna does Cheer-leading for Canon Mac, student council, and is a member of National Junior Honor Society. Roman plays Baseball for the “Pittsburgh Stars” Travel Team and is an Advanced outstanding wres-tler, Frankie (Francesca) plays Spring/Summer Softball and does Gymnastics at Pride Cheer, Luca does Acro/Jazz at Thomas Dance Studio
How will your family celebrate Thanksgiv-ing? We always host Thanksgiving Din-ner at our house. We have a large family and everybody comes to our house for a Thanksgiving Feast! The kids love the fact that we are at home and can enjoy the day without traveling. It has become one of our most favorite traditions in the house.
What do the parents enjoy doing? We enjoy exercising to stay healthy. We have a home gym which allows us time to fit it in especially with our 4 kids’ busy schedule. Sean also enjoys coaching the children’s sport activities.
Favorite Sports Teams: We will be root-ing for the Steelers and of course we sup-port our Buccos from spring to fall.
What are you most thankful for? We are a very humble and thankful family who puts God and Family first. We never forget the ones we lost, and cherish the moments we have with the ones still with us today. We look forward to meet-ing new friends and welcome the new area with open arms and warm hearts!

One Hour Heating and Air Condition-ing owner, Tim Bartman started in the new construction field in the 1970’s and did very well until the housing decline in the mid-80s. When the new construction market crashed Tim started to focus on residential service but remained in new construction. Tim soon determined that it was a hard mix for new construction and service/repair business. When asked about his path, Tim said: "I decided to pursue service and repair; the last new house I did was a Y2K home. I’m sure some will remember the fear at the turn of the century. It was a very unsure time."
Tim continued: "I always felt that I was the best technician anyone could find - but doing straight service/repair took a lot more business skills, which I lacked.
I started reading and studying customer service partnering with One Hour Heat-ing and Air Conditioning in 2004 and I've been learning ever since. It appears that you can teach and old dog new tricks!
There are a lot of good companies out there. To gain a customer's trust and busi-ness we have to be better. It starts with hiring the right people. I search long and hard for upstanding people. I look for clean-cut, friendly, drug free with a clean background, and one who speaks well.
We can improve their technical skills but not their personalities. I then try to instill my Christian beliefs - like being honest and truthful, and to be kind and under-standing. Folks can feel stressed when something in their home is not working properly; we want them to know we are going to do the right thing.
My advice to customers is: Choose the right company that meets your needs and then get a maintenance plan. Dirty systems cost more energy to run and break down more often.
Tim believes in being involved in your community saying, “If I earn a living in the local community I should give back. I've been involved with the Chamber of Commerce for over 30 years and presi-dent for six. I've been a Rotarian for 20 years and twice president.
We are involved with an organization called Net Promoter Score (NPS). They track businesses such as department stores, automobile brands, cable services etc. NPS does random checks with cus-tomers and ask one question, on a scale of 0 to 10 how likely are you to recommend us? Ratings in the 70’s are considered very good, we're constantly around 90. I think we're doing something right, but there's always room for improvement!
The most enjoyment I've had was help-ing coach youth sports when my chil-dren participated. My wife Denise and I are empty nesters. We are a blended family: I have two daughters and a son and two grandchildren and Denise has twin girls and a son."

Southpointe completed another success-ful Relay for Life on September 16th at the BLVD Pub & Kitchen parking lot. Steve Gillis – Relay for Life Com-munity Manager and Coordinator– ran this particular event for the first time. Not only did he spend lots of prepara-tion time in gearing up team captains at monthly meetings beginning in March, he also headed all of the marketing and planning, making sure everything ran smoothly during the 5-hour walk.
With 11 participating teams and even some of them fundraising during the event, the 2015 Southpointe
Relay for Life has so far raised $22,950.10 for the American Cancer Society.
It was a day filled with amazing people coming together for many different personal reasons, but also for the same reason – to rid the world of cancer. Of course reaching this goal has shown to
take baby steps and the American Cancer Society has always shared what their profits are used for which could be anything from transportation for cancer treatments to actually paying for those treatments.
Many local residents also joined in the walk. “I was invited by team captains Niki Mullinix and Mindy Zatta to be a part of Team Mosaic. I’ve worked in Southpointe for quite a few years now and as a first time participant of the Southpointe Relay, I am truly proud of what my community has done in this aspect. We walked for Avery this year and hope that all of the notes everyone left her on her t-shirt will bring a smile to her face,” says JC Morrow of Fairway Landings.
Some survivors were also invited to share their stories with the crowd, bringing tears and smiles to many faces. There was also a special lap lead by any and all survivors at the event. This lap represented what the Relay for Life is all about – these people won their battle against cancer with the help and support of every Relay for Life volunteer, donor and participant through-out the nation. Walkers also collected beads in the shape of feet on string necklaces each time they completed a lap.
All in all, it was a wonderful, emotional, fulfilling day for everyone involved!

As the U.S. population gets older, more people are finding that their parents’ ability to manage their own finances has become challenging, and they’re more likely to fall victim to one of the fraudulent schemes that frequently target seniors.
Yet many seniors may be reluctant to accept help/advice from their children, or discuss living expenses, health care plans, investments, etc. Postponing this discussion can increase the dif-ficulty of tackling whatever problems may eventually arise.
What’s behind parental reluctance? The thought of talking to their children or a professional, may remind them that their cur-rent good health and financial comfort may not always contin-
ue; especially if they can no longer participate in activities they enjoy. They might respond to the idea that addressing important issues now could give them greater decision-making power over their quality of life later.
Parents also may feel better discussing finances with all of their children instead of one. In this case, you may need to reach a consensus about which child is best equipped to help, or divide responsibilities among siblings such as bills, health insurance, etc.
You’ll want to help them understand that taking action sooner may prevent losing much of their hard-earned savings to taxes or scams. You could always suggest working with a third party who can review their situation and make recommendations.
When to offer help Some signs that a parent might need assis-tance include: confusion about whether direct-mail offers are advertising or bills; failing to pay bills properly; unusual behav-ior such as making unexpected large purchases.
Be sure to rule out other physical problems, such as an infec-tion or difficulties with vision or hearing, before assuming mental confusion.
A start is better than nothing Try to make sure that key infor-mation including online account information and passwords, is on paper, and that someone else is able to access it.
You might start providing assistance in stages. Offer to review checking account statements or credit card bills to ensure they’re not paying for services they didn’t request. This may give you insight into the overall financial state.
If a trust has been set up, a trustee might be the logical person to handle finances, since he or she may eventually have to deal with trust-related issues anyway. The same is true for a durable power of attorney. And in a worst-case scenario, children can petition a probate court to name a conservator or guardian.
Whatever approach you take, always remember to respect a par-ent’s dignity while protecting his or her well-being.
