Aims of Year 12, the first term

To support the transition from Key Stage 4 to the Sixth Form (academic, cultural, social)

To foster a sense of ‘community’ amongst the year and within tutor groups by providing opportunities to meet fellow students and staff and take part in activities

To introduce students to strategies for effective studying and independent learning, for example through “Elevate” and use of study periods

To raise awareness of, and aspirations towards, Higher Education and Post 18 options in general

LUNCH TIME AND HOME STUDY LEAVE

Students may leave the school at lunchtime

provided that they have brought in a

permission note from home and that they

sign out and back in again

Students will be able to nominate

afternoons when they have no lessons for

home study. Not Wednesdays. They must

sign out in the Upper Common Room (UCR)

or at Reception.

Authorised Leave for Educational Visits During the course of her sixth form studies your daughter is likely

to have access to a range of excellent opportunities outside school.

These may include University Enrichment Courses, Taster Days,

Open Days, Residentials etc.

We recognise the value of these experiences; indeed, many of

them may be recommended by members of staff.

However, we are also concerned that we maintain the generally

excellent attendance which research shows contributes

significantly to successful academic outcomes.

Therefore:

Page 16: Life in the Sixth Formkechg.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Y12-Transition-2016.pdf · Aims of Year 12, the first term To support the transition from Key Stage 4 to the Sixth Form

5 DAYS

Your daughter may take up to a total of 5 days for educational

experiences such as those above. If she goes on a 5 day residential she will

need to visit universities at weekends; if she goes on a 1 day university

taster experience she will have 4 days left for open days, etc.

She will need to bring in a note for each absence, as usual, as well as

evidence that it is a proper educational event. This should be given to Mrs

Scott Thompson, who will keep a record.

Work Experience should be arranged in enrichment week (17th-25th June

2017) or during the 13 weeks of school holidays

We hope that this system will allow your daughter to take advantage of

the best of both worlds.
