To begin I would like to acknowledge our patron Peter Bendeich, and our life members in attendance, and thank them for their ongoing support to the club past, present and future. We’ll cover off the agenda first, setting the schedule for the night and then I will provide my take on the year that was 2019. First up we will acknowledge last year’s AGM minutes, and then I will provide my report. Following that, you will hear from George Emerson about our finances, Steve (Tiger) Chan about the golf itself – and celebration of our winners over the year, and then we will look to elect the committee for 2020. I would like to remind everyone that nominations for any position are still open, so please make your intent to run known should you want to. Finally, we will cover any general business items which have been raised in advance, and also this evening, and we will end the night with our usual refreshments.

Minutes AGM 2018 – Craig Horley Nil business arising from 2018 AGM. Minutes were accepted.

Accepted : Richard Mair Seconded: Steven Chan

Presidents Report (transcript text)

In 2019, we had 21 golfing events, with 13 of these being president’s trophy events. We’ve had successes across the board at the RS Elliott, Interbank, Westpac Challenge, and of course our marquee event, Bank Holiday. It’s been another great year for all of us, with some new members joining, some old members returning and wonderful participation across all areas of our club. None of this would be possible without the invaluable contribution and support of our committee for the year, and I would like to name and thank them all individually. Steve (Tiger) Chan - 11 years as captain, webmaster and a solid golfing year coming

3rd in the PT Michael Parker – 8 years as President, one as VP and now a well-deserved break Craig Horley – secretary extraordinaire, and key to our organisation and planning George Emerson – 5th year as treasurer and keeping us as green as can be financially Stephen McCammond – keeping everyone honest on the course, 2nd in PT & winning

A grade champs Dave McCann – doing a wonderful job as booking officer and dealing with its

Challenges

As well as these guys, a huge thanks to our general committee too - Graham Flanagan, Terry Hillman, Glen Williamson, Allan Kenny, Dom Khoury and Warren Francis. Great job everyone. Further to the support we’ve had from the committee, I would also like to thank everyone who has provided support & sponsorship to our club throughout 2019. We are very thankful for the support from Gateway Bank, Tiger, Ted Geekie, Pat Wong & Dolphin Powder Coatings, HT Tran, Steve Iacono, Peter Cassin, Peter Bendeich, all our life members and of course, all of you as the members with your captain’s cash bets (however we did get cleaned out a couple of times this year!). Apologies if I have missed anyone – your support is very much appreciated and valued by all of us. George & Tiger will provide more detail around the financial and golfing year that was, but I want to call out two important items: As president, I have the honour of my title attached to our year-long tournament, and it’s my absolute pleasure to highlight & acknowledge the wonderful year this golfer has had. Consistency is the name of the game, and (funnily enough, even with no wins all year, although a great runner-up at the Westpac Challenge) he has demonstrated it in about as textbook a way possible. He has played all 13 events, placing in the top 10 in 6 of them, and not far outside the top 10 in the others, please put your hands together for the 2019 PT winner, Mark Ward! As you all know, Mark will be our #1 pick for the 2020 RS Elliott team, the rest of which will be revealed later. We’re very much looking forward to Mark & the rest of the team having success at the 2020 RS Elliot Tournament– the final event in its current format – to be held here in Sydney in March next year at Ryde-Parramatta GC and Stonecutters Ridge. Tiger will share more about this shortly. The second thing I wanted to mention is the January President’s Invitational. Last year’s was a hit, so we’re going to keep doing so long as people keep coming! It will be held on Sunday 19th Jan at Ryde-Parramatta GC (for those in the Elliot Team – there’s a few! – it’s a practice round) , and the attendees will be: Tiger, Myself, Stephen McCammond, Terry Hillman, Ian Watson, Warren Francis, Dave McCann (with a vengeance), Eddy Chan, Graham Flanagan, Glen Williamson, Rudi Minbatiwala, Darren Wissam, Bob Hooper, Mark Ward, Pat Kastl and Gordon Ho. Well done everyone – see you in Jan! That’s a wrap from me … I didn’t want to overstep what’s to come from George & Tiger, but felt it important to call out some of the highlights from the year. Thanks again to everyone for a great year, and we look forward to 2020. Cheers!

Treasurers Report Attached are the Club’s accounts for the financial year ending 30 November 2019, together with comparative figures for the previous financial year, for members’ consideration and acceptance. A copy of the Profit/Loss Balance sheet can be found in Appendix 1. Key Points are – • 2019 accounts are highlighted in grey; • Surplus for the year was $141.37 down from $900.36 the previous year; the

main contributors to the decrease of $759 being- a $420 diminution in Bank Holiday surplus; and the fact that the Penrith fixture was played in December this year

and the $230 proceeds from the round therefore fell into the next financial year;

• Total Club Assets amounted to $19,040.55 represented by -

Cash - $10,232.16 Deposits/Stock on hand - $ 8808.39 (of which $7,558.39 relates to RS Elliott 2020);

• Representative Team Subsidies for the year amounted to ~$4,700; • Membership numbers stand at 69 down from 80 at last year end, albeit some

new members and some previously non-financial member renewals kept the reduction in membership fees receipts to only $50 from the previous year;

• Members contribution to the Golf Club Industry by way of green fees

amounted to $21,900 for the year.

The report/balance sheet was accepted and seconded as follows:

Captains Report (transcript text)

Welcome everyone to this year’s Annual General Meeting and Presentation night for 2019 The year has flown by again and we’ve had our usual busy 2019 calendar. - We hosted another successful Bank Holiday at Twin Creeks with almost 80 x

players. - We had success at RS Elliott and Interbank and again brought home trophies

again. - The website has had over 6000 hits this year.

Attendance…. This year’s attendance average was same as last year with just over 31….. Still a reasonable number. I would also like to make mention of the 6 x players who attended all 13 regular games.–

Mark Ward Stephen McCammond Glen Williamson Patrick Kastl Warren Francis Willem Van Vuuren

Well done to those players. Membership…. Our membership numbers are still looking good. We have again been around the 80 mark for some time and we are still seeing a few new members joining though out the year. Looking forward to next year’s games…. The 2020 schedule will see us playing Liverpool in January and Eastlake in February again. A copy of the 2020 schedule can be found in Appendix 3. In August, we will be at the new Strathfield course instead of Warringah. The remainder of the year is pretty much the same except for November where we will drop Camden Lakeside and be back at Carnarvon.

Booking Officer…. Well done to Dave McCann for taking on the Booking Officer role this year. Everyone would agree his done another great job. Matchplay…. This year is the fourth year we’ve run the matchplay with 16 players and we will continue with the same format. Qualification for the 2020 matchplay draw will be again last year’s winner (Richard Mair) and the top 5 x players (who are yet to qualify) from the Eastlakes, Kooindah Waters & the Mona Vale game. The first round will again start at the Glenmore game. The full match play schedule will be noted on the 2020 fixtures list. Rules On the Rules front, there were a handful of new rules that came in at the start of the year. The main rules changes that applied to us were:

the out of bounds rule Dropping the ball from knee height 3 minutes to look for a ball Leaving the flag in hole when putting on the green Repairing spike marks on the green

Ok…..let’s move on to the Representative events….. RS Elliott This year’s RS Elliott tournament was hosted in Queensland at Twin Waters GC on the Monday and Maroochy Twin River GC on the Tuesday. Monday’s game saw NSW win the Managing Director’s trophy (remembering it is now best 5 x stableford scores from each state) with 162 points. WA were next with 158 Tuesday’s game saw South Australia win the RS Elliott with 429 strokes…NSW was second with 433 strokes. The Brisbane Salver was won by QLD with the best individual player stableford average of 58.78 points calculated over the 2 x days (I think the total was meant to be divided by the total number of cards rather than the number of players). QLD still would have won regardless but we need to ensure it follows the new rules that were put in place a couple of years ago.

The Gateway Cup which is the best individual stableford on day 2 was won by Phil Custance from SA with 39 points. The Melbourne Cup was won by our Simon Cooper 75 strokes. Well done Scoop. The 2020 RS Elliott tournament will be hosted by NSW on the 9th and 10th of March next year. The golf will be played on the Ryde Parramatta course on Monday and Stone Cutters on the Tuesday. The players that will be joining Mark Ward to represent NSW next year will be announced shortly. The Summer Cup The second Summer Cup was held on Sunday 24th February this year at the Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club again. The winner of the Summer Cup for 2019 was Darren Wissam with a gross score of 97 strokes and net 72 strokes. Well done Darren. Interbank The 61st Interbank Tournament was held at Stonecutters Ridge GC this year and was hosted by CBA. Team CBA won the Interbank Pennant (Scratch Stableford) with a score of 121 points. For the Interbank Trophy (Handicap Stableford), CBA were also successful in wining this trophy as well with 339 points. Richard Mair won the Moss Parker trophy (Scratch stableford) with 37 points. Another highlight was myself winning the individual B grade with 37 points. The 2020 Interbank will be most likely be held at Stonecutters Ridge GC again and will be hosted by Westpac. On a sad note, the Interbank has been struggling with numbers over the last several years and as a result of this, the Interbank will still be held next year but it is most likely going to be the final year it will be held. The first Interbank tournament was thought up by Terry Lennox and was held back in 1958 between CBA and the Rural Bank. For it to be held for over 60 + years is a great achievement. I do hope we have a great turnout for next year especially knowing it will probably be the final year the event will be held.

Winter Cup The 21st Winter Cup was again held in July at the Federal Golf club in Canberra. The winner of the day was Ian Coates with a net 73. Runner up on the day was Simon Cooper with a net 74. Well done to Ian Coates on winning and another big thankyou to the Winter Cup sponsor Peter Bendiech. Next year’s Winter Cup will again be held at Federal Golf Club but a month later on Sunday 16th August. I believe the host will be overseas hence the later date. Bank Holiday For the 68th Bank Holiday, the event was held again at Twin Creeks GC. Congratulations to Stephen Parkhill on winning the Welfare/Watson –Mason Cup with 77 strokes. Congratulations also goes to Stan “The Man” Conner for winning the Ted Geekie Veterans trophy with 36 points. Chuck Parker also won the Overall Stableford trophy (sponsored by Gateway Bank) with 40 points. Well done Chuck. Overall, it was another successful event and thanks to everyone that helped in making it a great day. Numbers were still good…approximately 80. We will be back there next year and hopefully we will have similar or better numbers again. CBA/Westpac Challenge The CBA/Westpac challenge, hosted by Westpac this year, was contested again at the Riverside Oaks on the 18th Aug and also played on the newer Bungool course. After all 20 matches had been completed and tallied, CBA were the winners again with 11 points to Westpac’s 7. Highlight of the day was Dom Khoury winning the day with 38 points and 3 x guys (which included Steve Wise and Simon Soo) picking up $65 each the birdies on the Par 3’s. Next year’s challenge will be hosted by CBA and will be played again at Riverside Oaks on Sunday 23rd August 2020. Sydney V Brisbane - The 42nd Sydney V Brisbane Tournament was recently held again in Coffs Harbour again. With all the bush fires in NSW, the playing conditions where a little darker.

Hole in Ones’ No hole in one’s this year, so Bruce and I save a few dollars again on trophies this year. The Club Championship grades for 2019 were Scratch, 0-14 for A Grade, 15-19 for B Grade & 20+ for C Grade. Presidents Trophy Richard has already presented the Presidents Trophy, but a quick run-down on Mark’s performance this year……so to win the Presidents trophy, he simply attended all game, had 6 x tops 10’s and played very consistently at the other games. A very well deserved winner and automatic selection for next year’s Elliott team. Well done Mark. RS Elliott Interstate Team It is now my pleasure to announce the team (which now can be someone who isn’t or has not worked in the bank) to represent NSW at the 56th tournament to be held in Sydney next March. Ok….here we go….the first person (as you would already know) to represent NSW is ….

Reserve – Andrew McRae Reserve – Craig Horley Reserve – Dave McCann

If a reserve if required, the selection committee will determine which of the 3 x reserves will be asked to replace the unavailable player.

No.

Groupies – if there are any other people (including the reserves) that would like to still attend as a groupie, would they please let us know. Similar to the Interbank, it is sad to say the RS Elliott has also been struggling with player numbers from other states. The last several years have seen “groupies” attending to pad up the numbers for other states. At the last couple delegates meetings, there has been talk of this and at the delegates meeting this year in QLD, it was agreed the RS Elliott in its current format will be held next year in 2020 but will have a revised format for 2021. It was agreed by all states that NSW will be driving this change and will advise the other states once a new format has been drafted. The general consensus from all states is that we all want to keep the RS Elliott going but the current format is not working for the smaller player numbers. A sub-committee has been formed to draft a new format and will be presented at the 2020 RS Elliott so it’s a “watch this space”. 2020 Interbank Team The following players have been selected for the Interbank Squad in 2020 which will be hosted by Westpac and played at Stonecutters Ridge. The date will just need to be confirmed. (If the date suits, the Elliott players will still have a chance to play another game before RS Elliott).

In closing, I would also like to again thank all players for their conduct on and off the course during the year, and to all the committee members for their assistance throughout the year. This has been my 11th year as captain and I have again thoroughly enjoyed supporting the club and look forward to serving as Captain again for the 12th year. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas this year, and all the best for 2020. Steve Chan Captain

Election of the 2020 Committee

The Secretary thanked the outgoing committee for their support and commitment for the meetings held through the year. With the introduction of phone dial in there was a marked increase in participation, including 3 meetings were every member was present in person or on the conference call.

The 2020 Committee was dissolved and the following committee elected:

General Business

history, previous support and include an invitation to present the trophies at the ‘last’ official Elliott Tournament in 2020. This will be the first order of discussion for the new 2020 committee.

#2 – Glen Williamson - suggests that the booking officer and starter review and

check the local rules at courses, prior to the draws going out to attendees.
