Hey friends

Welcome to a one-off edition of “EHSS LIFE”.We would like this to become a magazinewhere you come to browse in your down timeand enjoy the stories and features that wehave for you. Might it become a monthly?A quarterly? Will it change it’s name? We’re not really sure yet - I guess itdepends on how much you like it!

This month we have asked a couple ofour friends that we know from the roadfor their take on things. Betty McCaul isone of our fanatical fans here in the US and wehave asked her to give you an inside view of ourFlorida tour (she was at EVERY date!). ThenLidia Leleu is a young lady we had the privilegeof meeting in Romania last year. Her’s is a greatstory and she tells it for you on pages 8 and 9.

There’s also a quite lengthy interview withmyself that my manager, Trevor King, did withme not so long ago. The friendly atmosphere ledto an interview which is perhaps more revealingthan usual, and which lasted a LONG time. Thefirst half of the interview is in this issue.

So there you have it! Enjoy the pages that followand keep in touch with us on Facebook. That’swhere a lot of our fans hang out.

Until the next time (or hope to see you on the roadbefore then!)

There is one thing I don't like aboutEHSS. No matter how many times Isee them, I never get enough. Athome..either a CD or DVD is going allthe time.

When I go to see them...I laugh, I cryand always get blessed over andover. The new CD, Here We AreAgain, is different from anything theyhave ever done. In this new tour theyfeature all of the songs from thatalbum. As always, I laughed, I cried

and was blessed beyond measure. But these guys are on fire with thesenew songs. Their passion isawesome, every single song touchedme, all in different ways. If you ask mewhich is my favorite, I would have togo with what Ernie's Mom said(pictured below) - whatever song he'ssinging at the time is my favorite.

There is really no way to pick afavorite on this one. They are allamazing songs - but if I was forced to

-it would be “Any Other Man”. Thewords, the powerful presentation, such passion and emotion. Anincredible song.

E a c h s o n g h a s a s p e c i a lmeaning...and sometimes a differentmeaning depending on how the spiritmoved. And my goodness, how thespirit moved in a mighty way EVERYSINGLE NIGHT. Again, they reallyare on fire.

February 2012 saw EHSS return to Florida fortheir annual tour.Fanatical Fan Betty McCaul reports....

There is a fun side too. I go to sooomany concerts that over the lastcouple of years the guys have alsobecome good friends (I went to everyFlorida concert this year). We have alot of fun, the guys play up to usbecause they love their fans as muchas we love them. When they startedwearing the Converse, our EHSSSenior Groupies decided to buyConverse as well. So here are Ernieand I comparing shoes....

and below’s a picture of Stanna and Iwith Ian and Doug. (I think Doug’strying to look cool!)

....I remember after the taping ofThe Tribute to the Cathedrals....theguys had been on that stage in hotlights singing their hearts out for

several hours, and yet here theywere, out greeting the fans, gettingtheir pictures taken....and smiling. That impressed me at the time.

They are a great group of guys andI love them each and every one. Each one brings something differentto the group, but I have to say thatthe EHSS group right now has "themagic". They just seem to be happytogether and it flows right into theirmusic.

So here are my thoughts on thesongs...

Outstanding!!!!!!! I love "the band"sounds, sometime up andsometimes down..has that ShirleyTemple stance...too hilarious.....andyet still has the effect of the oldgreat song it is.

Awesome. God's people know thatdeliverance comes when thetroubles and the trials are finallydone. The world keeps bringing theflood and the fire, but we're stillsinging in the Midnight hour.

Last year at the EHSS retreat at

Bear Creek Farm (editors note - seepage XXX for details of this yearsretreat), Ernie taught us this song. All throughout the year Ernie’s beensaying “Here are Again” (in thatthe real Sig Sound are BACK). Thissong has so much meaning, as I amtyping this is playing on my DVD:)....And I believe the Lord rejoiceswhen we come to Him saying “Herewe are Again”. Great song.

A great old song that shows Ian'stalent. Awesome.

This song has a place in my heart. The first time I heard it, Stanna and Ihad gone to LA to meet Linda andsee the guys. My kids and Doctorhad begged me not to make the trip, but I was determined. After eighteenweeks of chemo, Doctors said I alsohad MS. I could barely function, butwhen Devin sang this song I felt theLord more than ever. I'm not alone,no need to worry, I"ll wait on theLord and keep praying you through.Well when I returned home a newMRI showed no MS and anothertest showed me 100% cancer free."TOTALLY GOD”

This touched my heart. You arewelcome here. So many peopleneed to hear this and know thatJesus loves them too. Wayne outdidhimself on this one.

This whole song will bless you andmake you see all the Lord has donefor you. But when I saw how my sinswere the nails He felt at Calvary, Iknew my life would never be thesame.....Oh what A Savior.

A old favorite, but this version withIan is just awesome. He showedwhat he had and a whole lotmore......standing ovation everynight of the tour.

This is a fun fun song that Ernietakes to the top - it makes you wantto do the sock hop. Everytime I callupon the Lord...everytime He isalways sure to keep Hisword...everytime when I need Him,He is never slow..everytime He iswith me everywhere I go..Makes mewant to stand right up, it makes mewant to shout..Makes me want to tellthe world what life is all about,EVERYTIME!! Love it.

Sometimes I Wonder

Thankful To You

Any Other Man

Doug makes this song talk. Sometimes Iwonder, but I know you ran to meet Jesus, tears every time, for our loved ones, wewill find out when we get to the house.

Reminds us that we all are thankful tothe Lord for what He has done for us andfor all He will do if we just seek Himout....Thankful to the Lord for this touchingsong.

This was a fan favorite every night forthe seven concerts I attended. It wasgreat on the cd and video's posted onYoutube, but live - oh my, the words, thepowerful presentation, such passion, emotion and many many blessings. Allglorifying the Savior's name.He was totally God and totally man, Hecame here to save and not to condemn.Wow. No wonder there was a standingovation every night.Kelly really showed all what he could doon this song. Fantastic job Kelly youwere awesome.

These guys always sing from their heartswith such passion and conviction...butthis cd is different....EVERY song isuplifting our Savior and yes I laughed,Icried,I shouted....and was blessedbeyond measure.....

This review gives the whole experience 5stars. Thanks EHSS for making adifference in my life and love to all.

Back in 2011, we did a concert in Cluj,Romania. We didn’t know it at the time, but the actions of a young Romanianteenager that night was to have aprofound effect on us. Her name’s Lidia, and here’s her story in her own words...

Back in August I heard that EHSS are coming to Cluj in October. That’s where I live and I was so happy and excited. I knew I wantedto be there! I told my parents I wanted to go and they said it's okay;I can go if I really want to. I decided to ask someone to take picturesof EHSS and me.

Come October things didn't go so well… not as good as I expectedbecause my parents told me they can't afford a ticket for me. I wasvery disappointed but still didn't give up and continued praying for it.I decided to go to the venue and wait for the end of the concert, hoping that I will be allowed to get in, just to take a picture and buya CD.

When the day of the concert came I was so happy and hoped thatmy plans were going to work, but on my way to the concert I was sonervous. I thought that maybe when I get there no one will be thereanymore. But surprisingly, the concert was not over. EHSS were stillsinging and it was so great hearing them. I saw some people thatwere selling Cd’s and stuff and I was like “I'm going to buysomething now before it's going to get too crowded here.” So Ibought a CD and DVD.

As I was waiting for the concert to be over, I saw some peoplecoming out of the main hall and going in again and it was so

tempting for me to go inside and seethe rest of the concert! But I said “I'mnot going to sin!”

Unfortunately, I couldn't resist thetemptation so I sort of sneaked in, Lordforgive me, and I had the privilege tosee and listen to Ernie Haase for a fewminutes. I was standing just a few feetaway fromhim. I never felt as excited in my whole life as I felt back then. Whenthe concert was over, everyone went in the hall and they were allbuying CDs, DVDs and taking pictures with the singers.

I decided to wait until most of the people will leave so I could beable to take some great pictures with them. So as I was waiting andwaiting and waiting (and starting to get bored while waiting), TrevorKing asked me what was I doing. I told him I am waiting to take apicture with Ernie Haase because my brother went to one of theirconcerts in Debrecen (Hungary), the year before, and I didn't goeven though I wanted to go so badly. But he didn't take any pictureswith them.

Now here I am, not seeing the concert but waiting to take a picturewith them and doing this will make him jealous. He smiled and left, making me think that he didn't care about what I had just told him.But you know what? I was wrong. He did care! A few seconds later Isaw him coming towards me accompanied by Ernie Haase! Icouldn't believe it was him and what was more unbelievable wasthat HE was coming to see me!

Pretty cool, huh? I was so excited, happy and surprised that I sort ofstarted crying, which was such an absurd thing for me to do; but Idid it! I had tears in my eyes! After Ernie hugged me and asked me

what was my name and how old was I, Trevor took a picture ofErnie and me with my camera. I was so excited that I think I evenforgot to say “thank you”!

When I was about leave, Trevor called Doug Anderson and DevinMcGlamery to take pictures with me as well! Everything was gettingmore and more interesting!Awesome!

After taking the pictures and when I was leaving, again, Trevorwanted to give me a CD for FREE! Haha, but I told him I alreadyhave that one and he asked me: “Do you have all of them?” and Itold him I don't, so he gave me Doug Anderson's CD: “DreamingWide Awake”. I told him “thank you” a million times… I mean, I hopeI did it! I was way too excited to remember the details right now! Butwhat I know for sure is that words can't express how I felt that night, how God worked in my life that night, how He made my plans cometrue. I felt like I was “dreaming wide awake”!

I'm sitting here withErnie Haase in our Nashvillehotel. We realized a fewmonths ago that in 2012, Erniewill have been on the road, professionally singing, for 25years.

That's true!

I wanted to make surewe marked that occasion, andwe did a special Facebooktribute earlier in the year. But Iwant to talk to Ernie aboutwhat he's done over those 25years and some of the storiesbehind the scenes, and just lethim share them.

Yes, 25 years and itwent like that, Trevor. I didn'tset out to make a long careerout of this; I just wanted to sing. You've got to pay the bills too,so it's nice to be paid for whatyou do. I remember the firstgroups I was in. We would goout and sing two or three dateson a weekend and then literallyeat the profits. We would go getdouble cheeseburgers! So wewere what you'd call weekendwarriors at that time, but it gotme going and got the juicesgoing to do what I do for a living. To be able to get a call, to gotravel and actually have taxeswithheld and actually make a

living doing this, or indeedanything for 25 years, that'spretty special. I'm thankful toGod that I've been able to, as Ijokingly say, “live indoors”

making a living singing gospelmusic.

Tell the folks about thestory you told me over dinnerabout your mom and dad.

I think enough time'spassed that Dad wouldn't takeoffence to this. You know, I gotall my work ethic from RayHaase. My dad is a self-starter,you don't have to wake him up,you don't have to tell him whatto do. He's in commercialheating and air conditioning, but he started his own businessand was very successful. Heprobably thought maybe Iwould take the business over.So I'd be out at the shop

working, and we working on theweekend and every Saturdaymorning I was in the shopworking if I wasn't playing ball. Iwould be out there singing atthe top of my lungs and workingon my tones, and we had thisPA system in the shop. Whenmy dad was looking to saysomething it would beep firstand go beep beep. You justknew something was coming! So it'd go “beep beep, 'Ernie!'”'Yeah?' 'Shut up! You're drivingme crazy with that singing!'He'd come down and say, in somany other words, but he'd sayit, basically 'You have to workfor a living. You're not going tobe able to chase a dream for aliving.' I was telling you, I think itwas maybe five or six yearsago that they (he and Mum)really, really understood that Icould do this and really be ableto make a l iving. Theyunderstood the Cathedral thingand understood that I would dowell there, but also as parentsthat loved me, they wereworried about my future andhow I was going do somethingafter that. So to have been ableto continue doing it for anotherfifteen years after that isamazing. My Mom and Dadwere always very very proudand there's not a concert thatthey attend that they don't sit

My Mom and Dadwere always very very proudand there's not a concert thatthey attend that they don't sit

holding back the tears. MyMom's just smiling and lookingaround and she's just veryproud.

Tell us about when youwere young and you saw thevision for this group and whatincident that grew out of.

I was two. I rememberand I think I said it one of ourvideos, I always wanted tomake people laugh and makethem feel good. Mom and Dadwere very active in our churchand my Dad he came to theLord probably when I wasaround seven years old. Like Isa id abou t my Fa the r,whatever he does he does withhis whole heart. So he came toChrist and they almost workedhim to death at our church. Hetaught Sunday school, he

drove a church bus, he wasdoing visitation on Sundays, hewas soul winning Thursdayn i g h t s , h e w a s d o i n gsomething on Wednesdaynight, and we lived at thechurch or at a baseball field.

It was just constantly those twothings. But I remember they putme in this one class on Sundaynight and it was called theEager Beavers club. I was alittle kid and I stood on a chairand I sang this song 'Jesuswants me for sunbeam' andthat was our opening song. Ourteacher got me on a chair andsaid 'Ernie, you sing it foreverybody because you seemto be the only one singing'. I gotup and I just sang and shelooked up and me and she said'You know what young man,God is going to use you. You've

got a beautiful voice.' Whenyou're a kid you just suck allthat stuff in and I'm like 'Okay'.A few months after that (myMom tells me the storybecause I don't' remember it), Icome walking home fromschool. (This was beforeschool buses and I had to walkhome). She said I wasn't in myright mind when I got home. Ididn't know who I was and I wasbeating my head on the wallwith such bad headaches. Wecame to find out that I hadacquired spinal meningitis, avery very acute case and sothey take me to hospital.

I had three spinal taps in onenight and here I am this littleseven year old boy in isolationand all that. The doctors tookmy Mom and Dad and showedthem how some kids who'vebeen through it came out andwhat to expect. Mom and Dadsaid they just gave me over toGod and asked him 'If youspare my son, you can havehim.' I didn't really know whatthat meant, but when I got tofeeling better I was still singingin church, and singing in thechoir. She tells me one daywhen I was at the sink washingdishes that I said, 'Mom, Mom'.She goes, “I'm here babe” and Igo “When I grow up can I traveland sing about Jesus?” Nowthis was coming from a kid whonever had seen an outsidegroup and didn't know what thegospel music industry was allabout. I just asked a questionand she says she tried to lookpositive and say yes, becausekids have dreams whichshouldn't be quashed. Shesaid she saw something in myeyes and thought, “God's takenme up on my promise to givehim to you”.

How old were youthen?

I was probably eight.

lives. Well Jessy Dixon wasthat person. He was able toreach across boundaries withhis infectious energy and love, his salesmanship and hisclothes, whatever it was. Heloved rhythm and blues, heloved rock, he loved goodlooking clothes, and he lovedJesus. If we can just get morepeople who love disco, wholove whatever,if we can justget them to love Jesus too.

Jessy taught me that becausehe was, like I said when Istarted this segment, he wasan international treasure. Hehad a lot to do with SignatureSound's personality. We firststarted the group, my wife and Iwould always go to Chicago atleast two or three times a year. He'd call me and say 'I hearyou're in town and I'm going topick you up and take you andLisa to the best place for thebest fried chicken in Chicago. And then I'm going to take youshopping where I buy myclothes; you need to step it up.'And he did; he took meshopping and spent the wholeday and spoke good things intome. He'd say 'Ernie, God's gotsomething.' I guess what I'mtrying to say to people is simply,“I miss Jessy. I loved hisapproach to how he presentedJesus.”

: He was a star. Anotherguy you spent a lot of time with,a certain Mr Bill Gaither. I knowyou could talk forever abouthim, but a lot of people thinknow because you're not on theroad now with Gaither thatyou're not a Gaither guy. What's your thinking on that?

Well I could show themthe voicemails that Bill leavesme once a week telling me,“Don't think this way, think thisway”, or just calling to say I loveyou. I could show the email Igot from Gloria recommending

a book toread while I'm resting on myknee. I'm a Gaither kid and I'llalways be a Gaither kid. I don'thear those things but I guessas a promoter you probablyhear that?

: Not particularly, I justthink there's a perception that ifyou're not on the videos, ifyou're not on the tour, you'vegone to do your own thing andthere's been a fall out.

It might be true withevery organization known toman, but with the Gaitherorganization, they will cheeryour successes. I can't talk toomuch about them withoutgetting teared up because Iwould like nothing more than towalk out my tour bus every dayand see Bill and Gloria'ssmiling faces. I really would, but that's not the season we'rein right now. We were talkingabout this at dinner, it's thatdivide and conquer thing. It's aspiritual thing that evenApostles did. Some went out intwos and sometimes they splitand found another person to gowith and they gave theirblessing. We go and we sing

their songs,a lot of their songs and theybless people.

I met you when youwere with Gaither. I was doingGai ther Homecoming inEurope, you were on the tour, and we've worked togethersince then. The thing aboutyour heart and your ministry tome –the heart message hasstayed exactly the same sincethose days even though themusic has maybe progressedand changed a little, butanyone who goes to your liveshow – it's about Jesus.

It is. The lights, the suits, the mood, the style of the song, all are tools. In this culture thatwe live in, you've got so manythings going on to get people'sattention that you have tocompete with. It's hard to find anew idea, a new song, a newsomething that's going toenergize everybody to say,'We've got to out Friday nightand see the boys. We've got togo see them and I've got tohear this new thing or I've got tosee this and experience this.'What I'm saying is after 25years of doing this I'd like to say

it's all been about singing, butit's not. It's been about how do Iexcite people to come hear thatmessage. The one thing thatGod's blessed me with morethan anything else is a fertilemind. I'm not talking about amind that has a PhD and adoctorate and all that. I wish Ihad stuck it out in music and gotmy degree, but I never run outof ideas, the ideas keepcoming. In a day if I have 100ideas, even if 99 of them arebad I'm always thinking thenext one's going to be great.

It's like basketball and I know inthe UK that's not a big thing likef o o t b a l l / s o c c e r, b u t i nbasketball terminology, whichpeople come to expect from mebecause I love basketball somuch, if you're a shooter nomatter how many times youmiss, you always think the nextone's going in. That must be whatkeeps you on the road becauseI know and anyone thinkingabout it logically knows, if it wasmoney, you could make asmuch money doing two gigs aweek solo with a backing track.

And I did that after theCathedrals. In 1999 I came offthe road and I had been withthem for ten years. There wasa transition period and I wasdoing some stuff with GeorgeYounce and Jake Hess in theOld Friends Quartet. In the twoyear period we may have done15 dates, but my livelihood andhow I was able to survive wasby doing solo dates. God hasblessed Signature Sound andwe're doing good in spite of abad economy. But when you'vegot twelve guys plus anotherstaff of twelve contractually, everything you bring in is notyours. So yes, it would beeasier to go and sing oneSunday night a week with somebackground music tracks, andthat's fine and I'm not pushing

I just remember prayingwhen I was struggling with thisthing of Signature Sound anddoing this full time, I rememberpraying and I kept feeling thatthere was unfinished work to doin our quartet. If I fail I can alwayssatisfy Him' and I can live withthat. I can go to my gravesaying I tried and it didn't work; Icannot live with not trying.

Have you always beena visionary, always dreamed?

People would say Ialways have. I think time givesyou the perspective and maybethe respect of other people whocan say that about you. I wouldnever sit back and say thatabout myself. There are some excitingthings happening. Because ofthe internet and because ofFacebook and all thosethings, what we want to do ispartner with the people outthere. We want them with usevery step of the way. We'regoing to build our own tribeand own clan; that's whatGaither always calls theYounce family. He calls it theYounce clan, and that'swhat we are; we may not bea mi l l ion strong, buteverybody's welcome here. The ones who are here,we're going to share thisexperience together and I'mglad we're going to use thismedium of the internet in apositive way and just seewhat God has in store. It'snot to build SignatureSound and buy five morebuses, it's not that. We'vegot to have a bus, we've gotto have suits, we've got tohave sound systems, we've gotto have all of that, but you and Ihave seen it in Romania. We'veseen it in a lot of places and

this music transcends culturesand God uses it. That night inLatvia before I caught my flight, remember that guy that wanted

us to take me to the airport? Ijust didn't feel comfortable withit because number one, I didn'tknow who he was and his carwas so small that our luggage

couldn't fit in it and he literallyhad to leave his family standingon the kerb so we could get justus three in the car with the

luggage to take us to theairport. In his broken Englishhe's telling me how he left hisfamily and forsook his family, went to Russia, startedworking, started drinking, started getting hammeredevery night, and he heard thesong Forgiven Again bySignature Sound. He calledhis wife and said if she wouldtake him back. His boys werereally really small at the time.So before we got out of thecar he reached into his walletand handed me two schoolpictures of his little boy andsaid this is why you savedme. I keep that with me everynight when I get dressed. Iput my watch on, I put my tieon, and I open up my littlecase and there sits thosepictures. That's why I alwayssay we do what we do.
