September 1Behind the Scenes at the Museum - Collecting, Preserving, and Interpreting Hillsboro’s TreasuresSpeaker: Steve Fast, Director of Hillsboro Museums

Like most museums, Hillsboro Museums attempts to maintain high professional standards in caring for its collections on limited budget. We’ll take a few items from our collections, talk about why they are important (or not), what we do to care for them so that future generations can enjoy them, and how we try to put them in context so that they are interesting for our guests. You’ll get a glimpse of what it’s like to work in a museum, and you’ll learn how to care for your own treasures at home.

November 3Swedish Heritage and Immigration Stories from LindsborgSpeaker: Holly Lofton, Director of Lindsborg Convention & Visitors Bureau

There is so much to learn about the history of Kansas and each group of immigrants that brought along with them a unique culture that has been carried on for several generations. Lindsborg has long been known for our Swedish heritage. From the settling of determined Swedes, Lindsborg has preserved its history in a vibrant way. Swedish festivals share much about Lindsborg’s early heritage and provide a window into the history of Kansas for guests from around the world. Events such as the Messiah Festival of the Arts, share the story of a group of early Swedish pioneers who had little ability to read music or speak English, practicing for six weeks to

share the Easter story with their local com munity. These stories, among many, are simply a glimpse into the amazing feat of travel from distant Sweden to the settling of the Kansas prairie. Lindsborg CVB director, Holly Lofton, will be sharing the story of Lindsborg’s traditions beginning with the story of Swedish immigration to the United States.

November 17Footcare for the AgingSpeaker: Deb Trevett, RN, BSN and President of Toe Truck, Inc

This session, led by registered nurse and Foot Care Specialist, Deb Trevett, will focus on educating us how to improve the overall health of our feet. We will look at topics such as basic foot care, proper shoes and lotions, circulation issues, diabetic foot care, ingrown toenail prevention, and common fungal problems.

December 1It's Christmas Once AgainPresenter: Arnie and Jean Boyd

Arnie and Jean Boyd live north of Chapman, KS. Since January of 2014, God has given them numerous opportunities to use their gifts and abilities to minister through music, especially to seniors -- to sing songs seniors remember from their younger days, visit with them, and share the love of Christ. They especially enjoy singing songs that celebrate Christ’s birth and the joy of the holiday season. They encourage you to also be open to His leading and timing while making yourself available to God. You might be surprised what He wants to do through you!

We encourage everyone to bring a favorite finger food to share. Please join us for this special celebration and time of fellowship.

Special note: Due to construction on campus, our regular meeting location in the Wohlgemuth building will not be available for the fall semester. We hope to resume our meetings on campus in the spring. Meanwhile, we are using the Parkview Church Activity Center which can be accessed on the north east end of Parkview Church, 610 S. Main in Hillsboro.
