October 2016 LIFE’s Senior Center Daytrip Don’t forget! Explore Whole Health with Elaine Jeffy October 20 th , 1-2:30 P.M. A revolutionary wellness program expands your definition of health and empowers you to take a more active role in the healing process. Elaine Jeffy is a certified Martha Beck Life Coach, a graduate of Mind Body Coach University, and certified by Whole Health Medicine Institute of California. “Writing to Heal the Soul: Transforming Grief and Loss thru Writing” – Grief Work Opportunity! Grief group using this book by Susan Zimmerman starts at East Side on October 27 th . East Side member Jane Ho has worked through the book and has a lot of experience working through grief to begin the healing process and live life to the fullest! Members are invited to work through this book together for six weeks starting on Oct 27th. This is NOT a support group. Sharing/speaking about your writing is not required. “Susan Zimmermann experienced a devastating loss when her first child, Katherine, developed a neurological disorder that left her unable to walk or talk. Faced with her daughter’s disability, Susan struggled with fear, denial, guilt, bitterness, and despair. She began to heal only through writing. Working through conflicting emotions with paper and pen enabled her to transform her sadness into acceptance and even joy.” Health & Fitness Sculpt & Tone: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. – Strong muscles help improve balance and overall fitness. The class uses a DVD and changes the routines for variety. VNA Foot Care October 5th – Services provided at East Side Senior Center by Visiting Nurse Association professionals specially trained in the foot care needs of seniors. Professional foot care is especially important for diabetics. Appointments required, call 744-6760. $35 fee is payable to nurse at time of service. Line Dancing: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. – Jump in line with other East Side Senior Center members and dance away the pounds and blues. This is our most popular activity! Yoga, Wednesdays at 9:30 Come get stronger and more flexible, all levels welcomed. $5 per class. Walking in the Gym: Daily from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – The gym is available for walkers Monday through Friday (except during exercise classes and when other activities are being held in the gym). Gym Time: Gym available for walking and other activities when there are no scheduled events on the calendar. Functional Movement: Tuesdays, Thursdays at 10:30 – Personal Trainer, Brenda Weaver, leads the class through strength training exercises using sand bells and resistance bands. Great Workout! $5 per class. Chair massage, Thursdays by appointment. Sigrid Myers, LMT, CT, and member of East Side is giving away a free massage every week! She is highly experienced and skilled. Sign up for an appointment. Massages cost $1.00 per minute with a 10 minute minimum. Creative & Regularly Scheduled Activities Birthday Lunch: First Tuesday of Each Month, Noon– Celebrate the month’s birthdays and enjoy a fried chicken lunch. $5 per person. Luncheon, Third Tuesday Each Month at Noon - $5 per person. Meet and Eat: Last Tuesday Each Month at 11:30. Meet or carpool and enjoy lunch out with friends! Creative Writing Group: Fridays at 1:00 p.m. – Explore your creative side with this great writing group, led by Bill Mendell. Music Appreciation: Wednesday afternoon’s at 2. Activities vary and are somewhat member driven- (watch live concerts, have special guests, member’s sharing their music and musical traditions) Guitar Jam Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. Group guitar, all skill levels welcome. Everyone learns from each other in this class and has a great time. AND they sound great! Instructor joins in at 2:00. Thanks Adrienne, for bringing teachers in! In Stitches Thursdays at Noon - Bring a sack lunch and join this circle of friends. Show your handiwork and stitch along with other members or just come watch and keep each other ‘in stitches’ Led by Diane Skelley. Sketching with Mary, Thursdays at 12:30 – Bring a sketch pad and pencil and learn to draw. Instructor: Mary Jobe. Tips are appreciated. Singing with Adrienne, Thursdays at 9:30- Join Adrienne Gilley each Thursday morning for a sing-a-long! Percussion /Rhythm Class – Wednesdays @ 1:00 – meet in the gym for I-Ching drumming. No experience required. Sign Language – Monday’s at 1:00 with Leland Peters. Origami and Paper Crafts- Mondays at 2:00 p.m. Tyler and Leland Peters are bringing some beautiful designs for us to learn. Come check it out! We will go to Honor Heights Park, the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, lunch at Miss Addie’s and finally the Old America Mall for some bargains! Total cost is $45. I hope you’re signed up!
