Hello Esplanade Residents,
Summer is here and so is the rain which can make our days a bit gloomy! Luckily, many of our amenities have started to open back up and we are starting to see residents moving about again. Our staff is doing everything we can to keep our members healthy and safe!
We recently had a virtual Hurricane Seminar on Zoom hosted by NBC-2’s meteorologist Allyson Rae and I hope those residents who participated found the information helpful. I know one thing that I learned that I thought was interesting is that many meteorologists rely on data collected from daily commercial flights to help forecast the weather. With a significant decline in daily air travel, they are receiving way less data which is one of the reasons our weather forecasts have been very off lately. Who knew?
I know many of you are anxious to get back to a new normal way of life here at Esplanade; as is our entire team. However, we will continue to follow all government and CDC guidelines when it comes to this. Remember, we grew up being told it’s better to be safe than sorry.
I am happy to announce our first two lifestyle opportunities this month. The first one is our celebration of National Corn on the Cobb Day on Thursday, June 11th. See pages 4-5 for more information. The second one is a weekly Farmer’s Market that we will be starting on Saturday, June 13th. We will be following social distancing guidelines on both of these events and you must register in advance and select a time frame to participate. It is very important that everyone follows the restrictions so that we can keep these types of things on the schedule. More opportunities are coming so pay attention to your weekly emails and also our Facebook page for future announcements.
I hope you all continue to stay healthy and safe and I also hope to see you soon!
Best Regards, Carri Adam

A Message from the
Dear Esplanade Residents,
As June arrives, we typically begin preparing for our first aerification closure. This year, however, since the first closure was moved up into late May, June now brings us a healed golf course ready for play.
Due to COVID-19, many local Clubs have not yet opened to Reciprocal play. As we get more information from these Clubs, we will certainly share through our weekly updates. The new Ultra Tee mat system installation has been a great addition to our practice area.
Now that we are in the new Cart Barn and the temporary barn has been removed, the area is currently being prepped to become our future cart staging area. See below for some updated photos.

Many of our members have begun traveling back north for the summer months as the city of Naples begins
to quite down. After the decision was made to move the first maintenance closure to the end of May, we now
have a full month of golf before our second closure in July. The temporary cart barn is now a thing of the
past as the new cart staging area is well under way.
Tip of the Month
A good set up and positive swing thought doesn’t always result in a good shot, but a bad set up with a bad
mentality will almost certainly result in a bad shot. Please see below for a few quick tips for a good start to
your golf swing.
• Tension is never a good thing in a golf swing. While squeezing to tight, the rotation of the clubface is
almost non existent. This results in the high/right shot (for right-handed golfers) that has lots of back
spin. I’m sure many of you have heard “hold your club like a new baby bird” which I am not a huge fan of.
I prefer a new tube of toothpaste.
• Your posture should be similar to getting ready to sit down on a high-top bar stool. A slight bend in your
knees to get in an athletic position, stick your butt out, and have a nice straight back. Your hands (when
relaxed) should hang straight down in front of your waist.
• Your feet, waist, and shoulders should all be in alignment so that the clubface can aim towards your
target. If your feet are aimed right of target, and shoulders aimed left of target, it is nearly impossible to
get your clubface to travel towards the target.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any suggestions relating to how we can improve
your golf experience here at your Club. Should you have any questions about any of the above or
about any golf related subjects, please contact me via email at [email protected] or in the Golf
Pro Shop at 239-494-8020.
Dear Esplanade Residents, I hope this news finds you and your families well. We are beginning to get back to somewhat “normal” with
the recent re-opening of the sports courts, pools, and other Esplanade amenities. All areas of the Esplanade
are continuing to use extra sanitizing and cleaning practices to ensure the safety of our residents and
employees.
It is hard to believe June is here already. June begins our very hot and rainy season, remember to stay
hydrated especially when golfing, using sports courts or walking trails. As our Summer rains begin to
approach, our lakes will begin to fill, and growing season begins. We will cut back on irrigation to the lawns
and landscaping beds. Carry lots of bug spray with you if you will be outdoors, the mosquitos and other
critters will be out.
As a reminder for those of you who leave to go up north for the summer, hurricane shutters may not be
placed in the down position while you are away. Be sure to secure a home watch company or handyman
who will be able to put the shutters in place if a hurricane is approaching.
Have an amazing Summer!
Best Regards, Monica Ryan, CAM Pope Properties | [email protected]
A Note from your C.A.M.
June has arrived and Naples’ foot traffic has slowed down quite dramatically. For those of you who have not
yet started traveling, don’t forget to grab your logoed merchandise before heading home! We have plenty of
Foot Joy, Nike, Travis Matthew and Puma golf apparel for both men and women. In lieu of the COVID-19
pandemic, the Golf Professional staff has decided to extend the Credit Book date expiration to December
31st, 2020. As COVID-19 restrictions begin to be lifted, the Golf Professional Staff is eyeing a few summer
sales for those year-round members! We appreciate your continued support and look forward to exceeding
your merchandise expectations! As always, we are able to special order just about anything you may desire.
And, if there is something you’d like to see in the Golf Pro Shop, please let a member of the Professional Staff
know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Dealing with Stress through Mindfulness
Do you feel stressed when your match is the last one on court, your teammates gather around to watch you and
you feel overwhelmed by the situation?
Billie Jean King said “pressure is a privilege”, but pressure often feels like a burden. We become stressed when
the current situation feels bigger than our ability to handle it. That is prevalent at all levels. Top tennis players
like Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson, just to name a few, are two elite athletes who use visualization to
combat stress.
UTSA Player Development has hired mental toughness coaches to prepare their talents for crunch time. Dr.
Larry Lauer (USTA) addresses the subject of stress management and suggests daily visualization to fight it. Our
bodies need to practice getting stronger, but so do our minds.
Stress management techniques
Accept that feeling stressed is normal, don’t fight it
De-catastrophize it, embrace it
Visualize yourself handling stress
Visualization techniques
Before you practice, take a minute to visualize what you’d like to accomplish. Close your eyes and see
yourself performing well.
Watch yourself playing a match. Include all five senses (taste, touch, smell, sound, vision) to make it as
realistic as possible. Watch yourself executing strategies that you’ve been practicing, such as chip and
charge in tennis, or hitting a perfect third shot drop in pickleball.
Now watch yourself not performing well. See yourself making unforced errors, missing easy shots. Respond
by recognizing frustration and anger but avoid getting emotional. Instead, take two deep breaths and stay
positive. Find the strategies you’ve practiced to dig yourself out of the hole. Think about how good you’ll
feel after the match knowing you gave it all.
The key is not allowing yourself to be swept away by emotion, such as fear, anger or anxiety, but
focusing on the process, the current moment.
Try to visualize every day for 5 minutes and “play” tough or easy matches in your head. Imagine yourself being
up 6-2, 5-2 and having to close it out. Or imagine the score tied at 11-11 in a pickleball match with opponents
shouting at you over a controversial line call. Will you react emotionally or can you stay calm?
