"Standards and guidelines such as the FGI Design Guide for the Built Environment of Behavioral Health Facilities are excellent resources to illuminate best practices. As part of a robust and comprehensive patient-safety risk assessment in pre-project planning, it is important to weigh the level of precaution necessary to reduce the risk of patient self-harm.

The design challenge faced is in balancing patient safety without negatively impacting the creation of a therapeutic environment that is conducive to patient healing and recovery. Nonetheless, as the data shows, the preponderance of inpatient suicide by hanging is an area requiring increased focus and action.

No product can or should claim to be “suicide proof.” That said, ligature-resistant products and systems can hopefully reduce the incidence of self harm." 3

FAUCETSPIEZO & MANUAL

BestCare ligature-resistant faucets are specially designed with sloping surfaces and minimally protruding buttons to minimize ligature points. The faucets come in either a hot and cold configuration or a single temperature configuration.

The faucet features a non-splash, non-aerated, multi-stream spray nozzle. Designed with both new construction and retrofit in mind, the faucets come in 4" and 8" rough-in and widespread rough-ins to fit most any application. All of the BestCare faucets come with valves that allow the facility to time the amount of water that will be delivered to the user when activated.

There are different varieties of valves, pneumatic and electronic. The pneumatic valve is pushbutton controlled, using air to activate the valve (ideal for retrofit because electricity is not required). The electronic valve is available in touch-button and hands-free sensor operation for widespread applications. Optional battery operated. All of the faucets meet lead-free requirements.
