All undergraduate students from time of matriculation until graduation
Faculty Program Advisors – Provide a mentoring relationship and advise Major
Faculty Mentor Advisors
• Provide Major advisement (experts in the major)
• Assist with major course selections• Assist with major course substitutions• Provide assistance with internship
opportunities• Inform students about graduate school
options and professional opportunities
Professional AdvisorsProvide…
• Clarification of general education and graduation requirements
• Continuous monitoring of degree progress• Semester scheduling of courses & degree
planning• Information about dropping and adding
classes• Declaring and changing majors

Pre-Orientation Requirements
• Complete the online Pre-Orientation Advising Homework:
• Look for Advising Pre-orientation Homework on June 1st (email) for availability and access
What to Expect from the On-line Homework
You will learn about ….• Basic components of a degree• Pre-assessment
– AP/IB Credit– SAT/ELM/EPT Interpretation of testing results
• Tools you will need to select courses for first semester (E-catalog, Advising Major and General Education forms)
• Importance of key websites – How to navigate
First Experience Advising–Group Workshops
• Island View Orientation! (June 18-June 30)
• Joint venture with Student Affairs/Academic Affairs (2 Days)
During one of the days• Advisors facilitate advising workshop• Schedule Build
– Cover the basics of building your schedule (balance)– All students will plan their first schedule (days/times)– Advisors and Peer Advisors will check schedules for
accuracy and appropriateness
Once the semester begins…
