HOW TO ORDER YOUR ARTIFICIAL GRASS LAWN
It couldn’t be easier to order your new artificial grass.
STEP 1: MEASURE YOUR TURF AREAArtificial grass comes in either 2 or 4 metre rolls and you will need to allow for the widest area of your lawn and trim to fit. These can be cut to any length up to 25m in increments of 10cm.If the area is wider than 4 metres, don’t worry you can always join two pieces together.
STEP 2: MAKE YOUR SELECTIONSelect your favourite grass from the available range, choosing the most appropriate look and feel for your garden.
STEP 3: PLACE YOUR ORDER IN-STORE Take your measurements to the Service Counter and a Store Colleague will process your order.

1. Remove existing grass – a turf cutter makes much easier work of this.
2. Edge the area where required. Any type of edging can be used i.e. timber battens, metal or brick edging depending on the preferred finish.
3. The depth of the base really depends on the existing ground conditions, but under normal circumstances we would recommend a 50mm layer of granular sub base material. Ensure this is granular sub base type one. This should be finely levelled and compacted.
4. Landscape fabric should then be installed over the entire area and pinned into position.
HOW TO INSTALL
5. The grass is then roughly positioned and rolled out over the area, making sure all sides overlap the edges.
6. Allow the grass to settle and ‘acclimatise’ for a couple of hours.
7. Once the grass has settled and acclimatised, cut the edges in against the edging system using a trimming knife, making sure the grass then sits down into the recess between the edging and the base.
8. Once the area is completely cut in all the way round – brush up the pile to stimulate it with a broom i.e. pull the pile back on itself.
9. We recommend infilling all artificial grass products with an even layer of kiln dried sand – this adds stability and weight to the product, thus making for a much nicer completed project.
PLEASE NOTE
These instructions are a guideline only, ground conditions and soil types do vary which in turn can alter the way in which artificial grass should be installed. There are videos available on YouTube to help show how this is done – if you would like further advice, please feel free to call us on: 01425 627832.

HOW TO JOIN
1. Roughly line up the pieces to be joined, making sure the pile direction of each piece is facing the same way.
2. Fold back both edges of the grass. On the back of the grass count in 4 stitch lines and using a sharp trimming knife, cut in between the third and fourth stitch line making sure you are only cutting the latex backing, and not the grass fibres.
3. Remove the excess, and fold the grass back over to enable the joint to be checked – manoeuvre the two pieces until they are square with one another and with a little manipulation the joint disappears.
4. Once satisfied, fold the edges back again and roll out the joining tape between
the two pieces – shiny/green side down.
5. Apply the adhesive to the tape, ensuring an even spread.
6. Carefully fold the grass back onto the tape/adhesive making sure everything remains aligned and no fibres get caught in the adhesive.
7. Compress the joint by walking along it and then manipulate the grass.
8. Is the joint still visible? YES –manoeuvre the grass as required – the smallest movements make a big difference, so take your time.
9. Once satisfied – complete the cutting in and allow the adhesive to set (2 – 3 hours if 10 degrees+).

TOP TIP:
It is recommended to install the grass with the pile pointing toward your property/main viewing point, this will enhance the overall look of the lawn.

If you are planning to install the turf yourself there are a few things that you will need.
GETTING THE JOB DONE RIGHT
EDGING Edge the area where required. Any type of edging can be used depending on the preferred finish. We suggest Wickes bamboo edging roll.
SAND To finish your grass off we recommend you infill the grass with kiln dried sand, we recommend 4-5 kg per sqm.
YOUR BASE The depth of the base really depends on the existing ground conditions, but under normal circumstances we would recommend a 50mm layer of granular sub base material or similar, ensure this is granular sub base type one. This should be finely levelled and compacted. 1 tonne will normally be fine for 20m2.
LANDSCAPE FABRIC Keep pesky weeds at bay
This heavy-duty membrane goes underneath your artificial grass, stopping any nasty weeds poking through, you can secure this with some galvanised nails.
JOINING TAPE Bringing it all together
If your area is wider than 4m you will need some Joining Tape to provide a strong link for joining the two pieces of artificial grass together.
LAWN FIX ADHESIVE The strong silent type This strong outdoor adhesive will ensure your artificial grass stays put without a fuss. It can be used on a variety of surfaces and works brilliantly on Joining Tape.
GRASS CLEANER Keep it fresh Every now and then it’s a good idea to give your grass a quick clean to get rid of any odours, especially if you’re a pet owner.
