Intro
Lilliana awoke in the darkness…pitch black darkness. What had happened?
This was not their blanket world, this was very different! Where was she?
Where was Atlanticus?
She called out his name and as it left her lips, a flash of light lit up the
darkness. She called his name again and more light began to flash, like a
neon bulb erupting into life, she called his name again and suddenly all was
bright.
As her eyes adjusted to the light, Lilliana took in her surroundings, it was
breath-taking.
Cherry blossoms floated across the air and filled it with the most
intoxicating smells, she breathed deep and took it all in. Again questions
filled her mind, what was this place? Where was she?
She stood slowly and began to walk through what must be an orchard,
trees as far as the eye could see but in the distance, just as the horizon
began to blur, she could see darts of blue and purple moving across the
sky, she walked towards the colours and slowly she could make out that
they were humming birds. Dozens of birds flitted around her moving from
blossom to blossom.
“Hello”, Lilliana called out, she received no response. “Hello”, raising her
voice slightly this time. One tiny bird stop what it was doing and looked at
her. She wasn’t sure if it was surprised she spoke or surprised to find her
there in the first place. It left the blossom it had been drinking from and
flew cautiously towards Lilliana.
Circling her, taking her all in. It seemed intrigued by her wings. Finally it
hovered in front of her face.
“How’d you get here?” the small bird asked. “How, how, how?” much like the
rapid beating of its wings it seemed hurried for an answer. “I don’t know. I
really don’t….”
The bird shot away, returning hastily with about 10 other birds in tow, all
silently hovering, and all staring at Lilliana. Who was becoming just a little
uncomfortable with it all!
“Who are you?” She heard a voice but was unable to say which bird had
spoken.
Intro
“I am Lilliana, I am a flower fairy, I do not know how I got here or where I
am,” She then told the Hummingbirds of her love Atlanticus and of their
magical blankets and how they had spent every night together but that
things had now changed and she needed to find him as he was her true
love and she was nothing without him.
“I think we have heard tale of your merman, on the other side of the valley
is a great lake and in the middle of that lake is an island on which sits an
ancient Willow Tree. There has been murmurings of a sad mermaid sitting
in the water under the willow tree.”
“How do I get there?” The humming birds flew into formation and pointed
to the West “Follow the setting sun and you will come to a see the great
Willow Tree.”
With that they returned to their blossoms and Lilliana began her journey to
find her love once more.
Lilliana walked then flew, trying her best to see as far as she could but she
could not see the Willow Tree, the sun was high in the sky now and Lilliana
was growing weary, she was tired and needed rest.
With no shade in sight she walked towards some long grass where she
would rest for a while. "Just for a little while," she thought to herself as she
settled down on the grass..... "Just for a little while….." and she quickly
drifted off to sleep.
When she awoke, the sun was no longer in the sky and she was
heartbroken she could not make out in the twilight sky which direction she
had been walking. Lilliana began to cry, she had not spent a night without
Atlanticus for 50 years, and how could she now.
It wasn't long before there was a strange hissing sound mixing in with the
sounds of her sobbing. Closer and closer the hissing sound came. When
Lilliana finally became aware of the hissing sound, fearfully she asked,
“Who is there?”
“Ittttttt’sss Jusssssst Meeeeeee,” the viper hissed. “Whooooo miggghhtttt
you beeeeee?” Still frightened, she answered.
“Theeeeeee biiiiiiiiirds haaaaavvvve beeeeeen chaaaaaatttterrrrring
abbbbooooout youuuuuuuu,” he lisped.
Intro
This made Lilliana relax, for if this creature was friends with the
hummingbirds, surely he was not as dangerous as he seemed.
The viper sat opposite her in the long grass his scales reflecting the
moonlight. They spoke for a while and much to her surprise the Viper told
her the Hummingbirds were wrong and that the way to the Willow Tree was
away from the sun.
“Trussssssssst meeeeee, I knoooow theeee waaaay, theeee biiiiirds
nevvvvver leavvvve theeee orchhhhharrrrd, hooooow woooould theeeeey
knooooow….”
The sun was beginning to rise in the east and the viper told her to go
towards it. So Lillana began to walk towards the rising sun. As the Viper
watched her leave, he chortled to himself, “Fooooolisssssh fairrrrry
neeeevvvver truuuuust a ssssssnake.”
Lilliana walked for hours, only attempting to fly so that she could see if the
Willow Tree was in the distance. When at last she began to make out trees
on the horizon, her heart skipped a beat!
But as she came closer, they were dark, twisted trees. She ventured closer,
and closer still until she stood before a forest but unlike the orchard full of
cherry trees, this place made her blood run cold! This was not right! This
was not the way! The Viper had lied to her....she was sure of it!
Slowly she began to venture into the dark forest and for the first time since
that fateful day with Hawthorne, Lilliana was truly scared. Every noise made
her jump, every movement made her freeze. She could sense eyes on her
now, lots of them but could not make anything out in the thicket, she heard
chattering, it grew louder and louder with each step she took. Fearful for
her life, Lilliana began to run…..and the chattering and eyes followed her
still. Frantically she ran until her legs gave way under her and she landed
with a splat onto the muddy ground. .
When she looked up, dozens of Wood Mice stared back at her. Looking at
her muddied face they began to laugh. Lilliana, on the verge of tears, sat
there and watched as these tiny creatures giggling with glee, and soon she
was giggling along with them. Finally the laughing died down, and one of
the Wood Mice approached her, “You must get up, it is not safe here! The
Vipers are looking for you and if they catch you…..”
The little Wood Mouse shook his head and shuddered as if what the Vipers
would do to Lilliana was too awful to say out loud.
“Come we shall take you to the toads, they will know what to do,” so
Lilliana stood brushed herself off as best she could and followed the mice
to the toads.
So Lilliana stood up, brushed herself off as best she could, and followed the
Wood Mice to find the Toads. They came to a pond and there in the middle
was the largest lily pad you have ever seen! There was more pad than
pond, and there in the middle of the pad were the three largest Toads you
could ever imagine!
“Who’s this then mousey mouse?” asked the toad in the middle. ‘It’s the
fairy the hummingbirds told us about, the vipers are after her and we don’t
know what to do?”
“Hmmmmmmmm” puffed the toad. “What’s your name then Fairy?”
“Lillian…...” before she could finish, the toads said in unison, “Aaaah, you
are Lilliana!”
“We have met someone who is looking for you, a rather depressed looking
Merman, goes by the name of Atlanticus.”
The toads went on to tell Lilliana how a few days before, when they were
down by the lake the spotted him and he told them of his love for her and
how he didn’t know where to find her and now he was stuck in this lake and
did not know what to do.”
“Poor chap, very very sad fellow,” the toads all concurred.
“Right you need to get to the lake little fairy, as soon as you can. How well
do those wings of yours work?”
Lilliana tried to fly but her wings were caked in this mud from her fall.
“Nevermind, nevermind, the owls can help,” with that they let out the most
thunderous of croaks.
Soon two magnificent Owls appeared, each one larger that Lilliana herself.
The toads and the owls spoke for a moment and then swooped over and
picked Lilliana up by her arms,
“They will take you to the lake, will have you there in a jiffy”, said the toad in
the middle.

“How can I ever thank you enough?" Lilliana shouted to the Toads as she
was lifted into the air. "Thank you so much for helping me! If I can ever
repay you…..” The Toads smiled at one another as they mumbled, “Oh you
will, you will.”
Soon they were soaring high above the tortured forest, over the long grass
fields, over hills and valleys of the most beautiful flowers. This truly was a
beautiful place and then at last in the distance, Lilliana spotted the Willow
Tree. Her Heart sang, as they came closer and closer until finally she could
see deep in the water underneath the Willow Tree the familiar iridescence.
The owls placed her down on the Island and Lilliana ran to her love, her
Atlanticus. She almost dove into the water but then she remembered the
curse. If her wings touch the water then she will surely die.
As close to the water as she could go she called his name, louder and
louder until at last he rose from the depths of the lake, His smile when he
saw her was brighter than any star in the galaxy and he swam to the shore.
But instead of stopping at the water’s edge, he carried on and soon his tail
formed two legs and he ran to Lilliana and took her in his arms. The kissed
for an eternity and when it at last came to an end she asked him how was it
that he was on dry land, what about the curse?
Atlanticus explained that after a few weeks without her, Lilliana had no idea
she had been missing that long, he decided that death was better than
living without her so he had thrown himself the shore and waited for death
to come, It had not, but his legs had, all he could think is that this was not
where they were from and that the curse did not exist here. . Overjoyed
that in this place they were free of the Curse, Lilliana threw her arms
around Atlanticus once more and swore she would never be separated
from him again. The two Owls looked down from their perch at this
romantic reunion.
“Did you feel it?”
“I did.”
“Should we tell them?”
“Nah, they will soon know. Where nothing was, one now grows.”
The Owls smiled knowingly to one another, spread their magnificent wings,
and flew off into the dusk.
