WHAT IS IT???

• One corrugate tube

• 22mm diameter

• Septum/wall extruded down its middle

• Inspiratory and expiratory channels are completely divided

• Made of three different resins

• Area of each distinct channel = 15.5mm

PATENTS

The Limbo has two patents:– Process = 6,431,218D1. Method of

manufacture.

– Design = 6,394,442B1. Single limb circle breathing system.

CHARACTERISTICS OF LIMBO

• Less compliant - the septum along with the stiffness of the tubing decreases compliance thereby increasing total volume delivered to the patient. “What you set is what you get.”

• Less heat loss - the septum permits the transfer of heat from the patient’s warm exhaled breath. Tests reveal an increase of 6.2°C @ 4L/min fresh gas flow rates.

CHARACTERISTICS OF LIMBO

• Less weight - less plastic results in less weight and less torque on the patient’s artificial airway device. Limbo weighs 34% less than coaxial circuits and 25% less than traditional circle circuits.

• Less inventory - One circuit for pediatrics and adults! Use Limbo with pediatric patients weighing 4.5kg or greater.

LIMBO WEIGHT PARAMETERS

• Minimum tidal volume requirements to avoid rebreathing CO2:– 3 x amount of mechanical dead space

• Dead space of the Limbo is ~15cc– 3 x 15cc = 45cc tidal volume minimum

• 10cc per kg of body weight is the usual estimate of VT– 45cc minimum VT/10cc body weight = 4.5kg

or 9.9lbs

failure and is discarded– Actions are taken to modify the materials
