This Week’s Feature Story

The 2011 Billabong BVI Kite Jam is off to aflying start this Saturday for its second year ofsea, sun and lots fun. This year’s event sees ProRiders and Kiteboarding legends from acrossthe world taking to the waves, looking forwindy weather and hot competition. Yachtsfrom Sunsail will be home to the Kite Jammerswhile they enjoy the daytime boarding actionand party nights. Among the contenders forthis exhilarating week are the VI’s ownMadison and Charlotte van Hueurck who willbe returning from last year’s inaugural event.

On Sunday, the Kiteboarders’ flotilla willleave for North Sound for some free kiting anda race brief for Monday’s round Necker IslandChallenge. After the Challenge on Monday, thegroup will race their catamarans to Anegada forsunset kiting. Tuesday and Wednesday will bespent kiting off the island and will include dailypro-clinics. All three nights in Anegada endwith fun filled parties at the Billabong BVI KiteJam Village at the Anegada Reef Hotel. Theboarders then race their yachts back to BitterEnd on Thursday for an afternoon in EustatiaSound followed by the BVI Party at Leverick

Bay for some local fun, food and entertainment.Friday will see more kiting at Eustatia Island,followed by the Awards Ceremony at the BitterEnd Yacht Club.

Charities supported by this year’s event areKATS (Kids And The Seas), VISAR, Green VIand Kiteboarding for Communities.

Registration will run from 10am to 8pm inthe Mariner Inn Conference Room on Saturday,26 Feb followed by the opening party at Sunsailstarting at 7pm. This time, the scuttlebuttwas that Dianne Sawyer and her directorialhusband Mike Nichols were on board. The cou-ple spent some time touring the docks of BirasCreek, but with a boat that cost over $200 mil-lion dollars to build, who would want to goashore?

The yacht “A” owned by Russian oli-garcah Andrey Melnichenko also spends a fairamount of time in North Sound. This uniqueyacht is easy to spot with its distinctive profile.Yacht “A” remains a bit of a mystery, but it iscertainly a sight to see.

You won’t always catch a glimpse of afantastic mega yacht, but if you search longenough, you’ll find a gem of a yacht, with astory all of your own!

There are few things I enjoy more than sit-ting on the shores of North Sound and partak-ing in my favorite daytime activity – yacht spot-ting. I’m not talking about your everydayyachts. The chartered sailboats that pour in andout of North Sound during high season mightbe exciting in other parts of the world, but inNorth Sound my eyes are on the mega yachts.The majestic yachts that come to explore thesound are a sight unto themselves. It’s noteveryday you’ll score a great find, but whenyou do there’s usually a story behind it.

One of my best discoveries occurredback in March of 2009, when the yacht Athenapulled into the Sound. The white 3-mastedschooner is owned by internet mogul JamesClark. On this particular journey, Clark tied theknot with supermodel, Kristy Hinze. The yachtwas decked in its full glory and rumor had itJimmy Buffet entertained the crowd. TheMaltese Falcon, formerly owned by venture cap-italist, Tom Perkins pulled up alongside Athenafor a few days. The Maltese Falcon is an unusuallooking yacht and made for the modern age.The automatically deployed sails make forquite a show.

Another time, The Rising Sun, once thelargest yacht in the world and previouslyowned by Larry Ellison of Oracle moored itself

No matter how old you are, you never get over highschool. You Again is a nonstop laugh fest, in this hystericalreunion of nice girl versus mean girl. Directed by AndyFickman (Race to Witch Mountain, Reefer Madness: The MovieMusical) and written by first-timer Moe Jelline, You Again is predicated on the grim notion that youcan transform yourself from the ugly duckling into the swan, but you’ll never be free of the uglyduckling whose awkward and ungainly waddle were mercilessly mocked by others. Moe Jelline'sscreenplay in a sense combines two comedy subgenres, wedding and high school reunion movies,with the theory being that such gatherings bring out the worst in people.

You Again is an outrageous comedy featuring an all-star female cast, including Kristen Bell,Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Odette Yustman, Kristin Chenoweth and Betty White. Marni(Kristen Bell) a successful PR executive has to make a trip home for her brother’s wedding. Whatshe doesn’t realize is that her brother, Will (James Wolk) is marrying Joanna (Odette Yustman), thegirl who tormented her in high school and made her life a living hell. To make matters worse,Marni’s mom Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis) recognizes the bride’s highfalutin aunt as her own high schoolrival. In one of those only in the movies contrivances, Joanna (Yustman) claims to not rememberMarni. Thus, Marni sets out to prove that the too good to be true Joanna does remember torturingher and that she’s a phony.

Many persons go through life blaming theirparents, the colour of their skin, their educationlevel or the fact that they were born poor fortheir current circumstances. While these thingscould have an impact, you can decide whetheryou will let them continue to do so. How doyou do that?

Examine your life. Make an honest apprais-al; do you make decisions based on other per-sons’ opinions, but never trust your owninstincts and judgment? Do you give otherspower to control you by your inability to say“No”? Do you refuse to stand up for yourself?

Assess your priorities. What is taking cen-ter stage in your life? Is it your job; partying?your relationship; your studies? That is the areawhere you will be spending the most time, themost money and the most energy. Therefore,make sure that it is something that will empow-er rather than drain you.

Identify your goals. Determine what stepsneed to be taken to ensure that you stay on the

right path without allow-ing yourself to be side-tracked. Make short andlong term goals and reward yourself when youhave achieved them.

Take action. Instead of making excuses,take action. Banish negative thoughts andwords like can’t, unable, not qualified enough,etc. Shift the power to positive words like “Ican”, “I am creative”, “I am capable”, etc. If youthink it and say it long enough, you will beginto believe and act it out and your life willbecome a positive self fulfilling prophecy.

Think of one area of your life where you aredissatisfied and see where you can make achange. The shift could be gradual or it couldbe drastic. Take power from the emotions thatsap you, people that belittle you, negative talkthat cripples you and habits that threaten toovercome you. Make a conscious decisiontoday to create power shifts in your life andtake ownership of your present and yourfuture.

It’s always harder staying at the top than get-ting there and whoever is on top, in a individualor team event will always find that someone isalways chasing that coveted position.

This season has seen the fall of more defend-ing inter-house champions in the various schoolathletics competitions in recent memory, with noless than five defending champions—four ofthem last week—giving up their titles. The trendbegan during the St. Georges High School com-petition and ended at St. Georges Primary Schoolon Friday afternoon.

Below we have highlighted all the Victor andVictrix Ludorums in each competitions.

Farara claims first St. Georges High title Farara won its first St. Georges High School

inter-house title with a resounding victory overWright. Farara had a final tally of 629 points toWrights 587 and Branche’s 477. Victrix Ludorum:Mahiliak Creque, Farara 48. Victor Ludorum:Ahmaal Mahoney, Farara, 52.

Panthers take down StallionsThe Callwood Panthers dethroned the 2010

champions Adams Stallions in a tight battle byjust four points to win the Enis Adams PrimarySchool inter-house competition on Tuesday. ThePanthers had 288 points to the Stallions’ 284. TheChalwell Eagles ended with 254.

Abednego ends Meshach 3-peat streakOn Wednesday, Abednego ended Meshach’s

3-peat championship streak in the Seventh DayAdventist inter-hours athletics Championships,with a resounding 92.5 points victory. Abednegoamassed 791 points to dethrone Meshach, whogarnered 699.5, after being tied with Shadrach—

Pelicans dethrone Killy KillyDefending champions Killy Killy were

dethroned on Thursday by the Pelicans, to win atight battle for the Althea Scatliffe PrimarySchool inter-house title, as three of the four teamsin competition scored over 600 points. ThePelicans ended the competition with 663 pointswhile Killy Killy followed with 646. The Falconsfinished with 628 and the Chicken Hawks, 578.Despite moving up a class, four of last year’sdivision winners – Xiomara Malone, Pelicans,J’Quann Smith, Killy Killy, J’Nae Wong, KillyKilly and Diamonte Gumbs, Killy Killy, repeatedin their new category.
