History of Lincoln Memorial

• Institution was chartered by the State of Tennessee in 1897 as Lincoln Memorial University.

• Now has over 10 extended sites, main site is the Harrogate site.

• Has several growing professional programs including the newest, Veterinary Medicine

• Located in Harrogate, Tennessee

• Rural area of Tennessee about 50 miles from Knoxville.

• Approximately 4,000 students (undergraduate, graduate, professional)

The College of Veterinary Medicine• The first class will be in 2014.

• Implemented hands on work starting the first semester.

• Strongly tied to One Health- optimizing the health of animals, people and the environment. Selective outreach service activities, and collaborative research with the human medical community.

More Information

• LMU does not have Teaching Hospital

• BUT, Instead, LMU will place the students in ‘real world’ clinical settings

• Large Animal Teaching and Research Center- 1,000 acre facility for education, research and service. Students will work at this facility years 1-3.

• 10 units Biology with lecture and lab• 4 units of Genetics lecture • 4 units of Biochemistry lecture • 8 units of ‘advanced’ biology- Anatomy, Cell Biology,

Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Virology• 10 units of Organic Chemistry lecture and lab• 10 units of Inorganic Chemistry lecture and lab • 4 units of Physics- no lab needed • 4 units of Statistics
