• Ancient Egyptians used elbow to fingertip to measure distance. This is called a cubit.
Horse traders used hand widths to measure the
height of a horse. This is called ‘hands’.
To measure cloth
• Cloth was measured in yards – tip of the nose to the tip of the thumb.
