Tuesday 6th March @ 8.00pmMammuthFrance 2010 87mins Language: French with English subtitlesThe story of a man, a mission and a motorbike, actor Gérard Depardieu teams up with subversive farceur directors Benoit Delépine and Gustave de Kervern for a trouble-making road comedy about an old biker heading back to his past. Hitting the road on his Mammuth bike, he has a series of variously humiliating and inspiring encounters on the course of his bittersweet and picaresque journey to recover lost wages and buried memories, with a gem of a central role that finds the larger-than-life Depardieu in top form.“Delépine and de Kevern’s best yet… a funny, sad and weird road movie.” - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian“Depardieu makes the most of it. Gallic scuzziness has rarely seemed so sweetly tender.” - David Fear, Time Out New York“Enjoyably offbeat and frequently hilarious… (with) a terrific cen-tral performance.” - Matthew Turner, LondonViewAdm. €5

Friday 9th March @ 8.00pmIrish Youth Chamber Choir - 30 Years On Song The Linenhall @ Christchurch presents the Irish Youth Chamber Choir. Since 1982, hundreds of Ireland’s most talented singers and musicians have benefi ted from the IYC experience, and in the thirty years since it fi rst came together through the Association of Irish Choirs, its members have gone on to form the backbone of musical life in this country and beyond as conductors, choir found-ers, singers, teachers and musicians. In 2011, IYC created a smaller Chamber Choir of 24 singers, selected from within the 100-strong Irish Youth Choir. Singing some of the most dazzling repertoire from around the world, these young singers offer a new perspective on choral music. Innovative programming and interpretation underpin a desire to stage vibrant concert performances which are genu-inely engaging and relevant to people of all ages. Under Artistic Director Greg Beardsell, IYCC will perform a programme including works by Pawel Lukaszewski, James Macmillan, Eric Whitacre, Greg Scanlon and Moses Hogan. This performance is recipient of a Tour-ing Award from The Arts Council.

Wednesday 14th March @ 8.00pmMephisto Theatre Company - Grenades Northern Ireland, 1979: Nuala is a tough 9-year old living with her mother, brother and grandad, she thinks the class bully is just a big baby, and that all the nuns are cranky old wrinkled-up crones. She loves Thin Lizzy and The Undertones - just like her big brother, Oran, who is 15 and thinks he’s Casanova. Nuala thinks he’s more like Jesus; she’d do anything for him. But what she does one day for her brother, no-one could ever have imag-ined… Set in a prison 10 years later, Grenades is a compelling drama that has at its heart the bruised innocence of Nuala, who must re-live the events of her childhood and finally make sense of them all. A highly acclaimed first play by award-winning writer Tara McKevitt, in an exciting production by Galway’s Mephisto Theatre Co. starring Emma O’Grady, directed by Caroline Lynch.“…enthralling…heart-wrenching…” - Irish Theatre Magazine“…fantastic performance… …a vital production” - Culture NI“…little fire-cracker of a play…” - Herald Scotland“…powerful… …O’Grady’s fierce, heart-wrenching perfor-mance is impossible to fault”. - ScotsmanAdm. €16 / €14 (concessions)

Tuesday 20th March @ 8.00pmLe Quattro Volte2010 Italy 88 mins Language: Italian with English subtitles Le Quattro Volte (‘the four times’) is a transcendent, contemplative and exquisitely filmed meditation on the cycle of life by director Mi-chelangelo Frammartino. Set in the Calabrian countryside, the film explores the Pythagorean notion of four states of being (human, animal, vegetable, and mineral), commencing with an old goat-herd emerging out of the smoke rising from a charcoal kiln and ending with the charcoal haze of what was once a mighty fir tree drifting across the screen. What happens in between has left film critics struggling for superlatives. We’ll leave the hard sell to them.“Pure delight… a wonderful film about life, the universe and everything. It’s captivating, touching, wryly humorous, mysterious, intriguing and uplifting.” - Trevor Johnston, Time Out“This beautiful movie… ” - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian“Extraordinary… A cinematic poem, a spiritual exploration of time and space.” - Philip French, The Observer“A devastating, profound and at times surreal work of art.” -Michael O’Sullivan, Washington PostAdm. €5

Wednesday 21st March @ 8.00pmPreston Reed“Q: when is an acoustic guitar not an acoustic guitar? A: when it’s in the hands of New York visionary Preston Reed.” - Total Guitar Preston Reed is recognised internationally as one of the greatest guitarists in the world, and also as a ground-breaking musical innovator. In 1987 he invented a two-handed playing style and compositional approach that integrates the full percussive po-tential of the guitar body. In doing so Reed revolutionized guitar playing. Reed fuses chord-based grooves, soaring melodic runs and polyrhythmic percussion with his breathtaking two-handed style. The power and depth of his original compositions are as unique as the man’s execution, as blues, rock, funk and jazz meet, interlock and attack to create a sonic brew quite unlike anything you’ve heard before. Need we say more?

“Widely thought of as the world’s most gifted guitarist.” - Total Guitar“In a class of his own.” - Jack Massarik, London Evening Standard“Fiendishly intricate.” - The Irish Times“True spellbinding guitar mastery.” - Guitarist Magazine“Spectacular… a terrific performer.” - The Irish IndependentAdm. €16 / €14 (concessions)

Monday 26th March @ 8.00pmSplódar Theatre Company - SiveDescribed as a piece of theatrical magic, John B. Keane’s Sive has consistently lit up Irish and world stages since it was first produced in 1959, and characters such as the innocent young girl Sive, the scheming Mena and the ruthless Tomáisín Seán Rua are as recognisable today as they were back in the fifties. Keane brings his genius to bear on this modern classic of greed, sex and bitterness in language of sublime lyricism, and his introduction of the traveller Pats Bacach and his balladeer son Carthalawn is one of the most imaginative devices in modern Irish drama. Splódar is proud

to present this great play in this, the 10th anniversary of the au-thor’s death. Directed by Prin Duignan.Splódar is the resident drama company in the Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, and has been active since 1995.

Tuesday 17th April @ 8.00pmThe Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito)Spain 2011 117mins Language: Spanish with English subtitlesThe acclaimed director of Volver, Talk to Her and many more, Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film is a macabre suspense thriller about obsession, drawing the work of Davids Lynch and Cronenberg as well as Hitchcock into his directorial palette in a melodramatic offering more redolent of his earlier films. Also harking back, the film sees the return of Antonio Banderas to Almodóvar’s repertory company, as a plastic surgeon seeking to develop an artificial skin after his wife has died as a result of horrific burns caused by a tragic car crash. Offbeat, perhaps, compelling and dazzling film-making, certainly.“Scintillating… a moving exploration of the nature of human identity. Almodóvar at his daring, provocative and allusive best.” - Philip French, The Observer“Bizarre, elegant… A luxury pulp fiction, an exotic brew that only Almodóvar could ever make.” - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian“A psychosexual thriller... anchored in Almodóvar’s meticulous direction.” - Dave Calhoun, Time OutAdm. €5

Wednesday 18th April @ 8.00pmFishamble Theatre Co. - Wheelchair On My FaceActress and stand-up comedian Sonya Kelly (Savage Eye) deliv-ers a hilarious and poignant one-woman show based on her own childhood experience. Sonya was diagnosed with myopia when she was seven years old. “I got my first pair of glasses when I was seven. A nurse came to the school and tested everyone’s eyes. And so it was discovered why I’d thrown bread to the floating crisp packets in our local pond and walked into lamp posts and said, ’excuse me’. Until that day the world was a swirl of moving coloured blobs. I thought it was the same for everyone. How wrong I was.” Part memoir, part theatre and part stand-up comedy, Wheelchair On My Face is written and performed by Sonya Kelly and directed by Gina Moxley for Fish-amble, one of Ireland’s most dynamic theatre companies.“Delightfully whacky… hilarious… tight script and engaging per-formance… terrific.” - The Irish Times”Hilarious, poignant… it will please viewers of all lens-prescrip-tions and none.” - The Irish Theatre Magazine Adm. €16 / €14 (concessions) NB: Performance: 55 mins duration

John ex-plains: “My current body of work comprises paintings relating to fi sh. MAY ON OUR DOORSTEP - exploring local May customs

May On Our Doorstep is a collaborative project between the Linenhall Arts Centre and the Education & Outreach Depart-ment, National Museum of Ireland - Country Life. It is a celebra-tion of local May customs through a number of events including exhibitions, workshops and talks, and an opportunity to ex-change and record local May customs.

The ancient feast of Bealtaine celebrates the arrival of summer and was marked by a variety of customs. Traditionally fl owers are associated with May and are believed to protect against bad luck. They were used to decorate the May Bush and May Altars and they are hung in the house, laid on doorstep, window sills and pathways. In towns throughout Mayo the custom of leaving fl owers on doorsteps on May morning continues to this day.

This project aims to celebrate these customs through a series of events at the Linenhall Arts Centre and the Museum of Country Life. You can take part in the project by attending the events taking place in both venues.
