Description:
The Latera bed system has lateral tilt functionality to aid patient handling, significantly reduce the risk of back and occupational staff injuries while offering improved pressure area care for residents with reduced mobility. The Latera is flexible in terms of its application for both a hospital or nursing/ residential nursing environment. Function of the bed such as side rails may be selected according to the needs of the bed occupant.

LATERAL TILT

Reduces the physical strain for nursing staff when handling patients.

Reduces the risk of occupational injury.

Routine nursing activities can be performed more effi ciently.

Effective management of pressure ulcers.

Helps prevent complications in patients with lymphoedema and facilitates post-operative drainage.

Helps prevent the negative effects of immobilisation.

Helps increase the quality of life for long-term or permanently immobile patients.

Routine nursing activities often require physical handling of the patient several times a day, often in non-ergonomic positions.LINET has developed the Latera Acute patient bed with a lateral tilt to turn the patient with little physical exertion, minimising excessive physical strain and the risk of injury.

SAVING ENERGY –USE UP 10× LESS FORCEThe force required to turn a patient on the Latera Acute is 10 times lower in comparison with a standard patient bed.

20% TIME SAVEDThe time required for completing activities on the Latera Acute such as changing bed linen is reduced by up to 20% in comparison with a standard patient bed.

SUPERVISOR CONTROL PANEL Ergonomically shaped with clear panel graphics the supervisors control panel is centrally located for ease of access.

PATIENT HANDSET CONTROLA practical control for the patient and nurse contains controls for the bed’s basic positions, including backrest tilt and adjustment of the mattress platform height.

SATELLITE CONTROL PANELSymbols for controlling individual functions are large and clearly visible. The buttons are distinguished by various colours with embossed symbols.

LATERAL TILT FOOT CONTROLFoot controls are located on the bed undercarriage on both sides enabling practical and easy hands-free adjustment of the lateral tilt.

15º LATERAL TILT

The Latera Acute has a 15 degree lateral tilt which enables the patient to be turned to the side with the minimum of effort.

COLUMN CONSTRUCTION

The three-column construction enables lateral tilt adjustment and provides the bed with exceptional stability and rigidity.

4

SIMPLE AND RELIABLE CONTROL Staff are able to effectively position the patient bed using conveniently located control panels.

The benefi ts of the Latera Acute for daily nursing activities are subject to two basic prerequisites: The adjustment of the lateral tilt is safer for patients The lateral tilt adjustment is easy and reliable for nursing activities

SAFETY GO BUTTONThe safety GO button en-hances patient safety by pre-venting unintentional bed po-sitioning. The GO button activates the bedcontrols for 3 minutes. Three minutes after the button is pressed, the controls automati-cally deactivate so any bed positioning will only occur after intentional activation.

Page 5: LINET Latera

FOOT CONTROLSFoot controls for height adjustment and examination position are equipped with a mechanical guard which prevents accidental activation.

FOOT CONTROLS

SAFE LATERAL TILTThe unique three-column construction of the Latera Acute ensures stability for late ral tilt adjustment and smooth, stable and effi cient movement.

PROCEDURE FOR MAKING THE BED WITH A LATERAL TILTChanging bed linen is just one way in which the lateral tilt can be effectively used.

4. With the patient’s position stable, the nurse can fully devote their time to changing the bed linen from the other side of the bed.

5. Using the foot controls, the nurse can adjust the bed to the horizontal position, turn the patient onto their back, raise the other side rail and place a Latera positioning cushion against it to protect the patient.

6. The patient can then be turned onto their other side with the aid of the lateral tilt and the nurse can fi nish changing the bed linen on the other side of the bed.

3. The lateral tilt transfers the patient’s centre of gravity substantially reducing the work required to turn the patient onto their side. Heavier patients can be turned with the minimum of effort.

2. The side rail closest to the nurse is raised - a positioning cushion allows the patient to rest against it. Using the foot controls the nurse can tilt the bed laterally.

1. The nurse can adjust the bed to a safe working height and thus can maintain the correct working posture.

LATERA POSITIONING CUSHION

The Latera positioning cushion can be used during patient positioning to protect the patient against pressure ulcers and direct contact with the side rail.

The column lifting units of the Latera Acute maximise the ease of cleaning and decontamination procedures preventing the infi ltration of dangerous substances.

The columns consist of smooth aluminium profi les without diffi cult to clean gaps and joints.

Columns can be easily wiped down and cleaned. The construction allows unrestricted access to all the bed parts.

COLUMN CONSTRUCTION

Most hospital infections are spread by staff, patients and visitors by touch. The side rails and head and foot boards of beds are particular area’s that will come into constant contact with staff and patients.

The joint-free technology used on the Latera Acute ensures that these areas are without joints and have a smooth and non-absorbent surface, thus ensuring that they are easy to clean and wipe down.

Effective hospital infection prevention

Easily removable mattress platform covers enable easy access to other parts of the bed.

Ventilation holes within mattress platform cover allow for air circulation and are easy to wash and clean.

Use of foot pedals for height adjustment and lateral tilt ensure hands free adjustment of the bed in order to limit the risk of infection.

7

HOSPITAL ACQUIRED INFECTION

Despite advances in modern medicine there is a constant struggle with the increased risk of secondary infec-tions. According to the World Health Organisation, more than 17 million people dieof infectious diseases every year, while a great number of these infections are associated with nosocomial – hos-pital acquired infections. Constantly more frequent invasive procedures and excessiveadministration of antibiotics (resulting in resistance) give rise to nosocomial infections. Nosocomialinfections are among the ten most common causes of death in the world.

Infections contracted during a stay in hospital prolong and make a patient’s treatment more expensive, and increase their physical suffering.

Medical staff are also exposed to the risk of hospital infections.

Up to 30 percent of hospital infections can be avoided through adequate prevention.

1 SIDERAILS ¾ length collapsible siderails provide patient protection against a fall and stability of the patient in a lateral position.

2 HEAD & FOOT BOARDS Removable ABS head and foot boards enable quick

access to the patient in emergency situations and also assist ease of hygiene. The décor of the panel can be supplied in various shades from the LINET range. End locks prevent the boards from being removed unintentionally.

3 SUPERVISOR CONTROL PANEL The supervisor control panel can adjust the bed in all positions. It contains a memory for the most frequently used positions, GO button, STOP button and battery capacity and lifetime indicator.

4 BED EXTENSION The integrated bed extension allows the adjustment of the mattress platform length to meet the patient’s individual height.
