We were living in a small house we rented in CharloMe, North Carolina — the city where we met, dated, and married. We both had good jobs, a great social network, and what I thought was a wonderful marriage. Evidently, I was missing something. “So, what have I done wrong?” I asked. She looked at me with her head Vlted to one side and a confused expression on her face. “What do you mean…oh, no, I don’t mean I’m not happy with you. It’s not you. I’m just unseMled. Something’s not right. I think God is calling us to something that is different from what we are doing now.” That conversaVon was the first of many about discerning God’s will for our future together. A\er looking at a number of opVons, we eventually believed God was leading us to leave our jobs and the comforts of what was so familiar to go overseas. We interviewed with an organizaVon called “The InternaVonal Mission Board” and eventually accepted an offer to work with college students in Rome, Italy. For the next year, we taught conversaVonal English and helped establish a ministry in the city that conVnues today. In preparing to leave the United States and move to Italy, there were a number of tasks we had to complete. Selling our cars, ge_ng visas, storing furniture, and se_ng up new bank accounts just to name a few. One of the things we did not have to do was to raise support. The same quesVon was posed to us by several friends: Can we help you guys out financially? We would answer: “Thank you, but we are not required to raise support. When you give to our church, a porVon of those funds are forwarded to the InternaVonal Mission Board to support us and the roughly 5,000 other missionary employees serving around the world.” To put this in perspecVve, the IMB is not only the largest missionary organizaVon in the world, they are one of the few (perhaps only) that do not require their missionary employees to raise most or all of their financial support. We personally get requests from and have given to missionaries from a number of other organizaVons so that they could conVnue to live and work in the naVons to which they were called. We’ve never received such a leMer from an IMB missionary. Because of this freedom from having to raise their own support, they are not required to spend a large porVon of their Vme networking and contacVng potenVal donors. They do not have to spend money on plane Vckets to come home and host donor events. They are able to fully focus on the mission work God has called them to do. Every Vme you give to Northway Church, a porVon of your gi\ is forwarded on to this organizaVon. Through your giving, you are helping to support a single girl living in North Africa. I get her prayer leMer every month, and she has to write everything in code because she is in country dominated by Muslims. Yet, she has had the opportunity to see many Muslim women read porVons of the New Testament and share the gospel message with these individuals.

“I’m not happy.” Those were NOT the words I wanted to hear from my wife of only a few months. We were living in a small house we rented in CharloMe, North Carolina — the city where we met, dated, and married. We both had good jobs, a great social network, and what I thought was a wonderful marriage. Evidently, I was missing something. “So, what have I done wrong?” I asked.

That conversaVon was the first of many about discerning God’s will for our future together. ADULTS & CHURCH-WIDE

Through your giving, you are helping to support a missionary family living in Iran. This family knows they could be arrested for even owning a Bible, but in very subtle ways they are looking for open doors to share the gospel with their neighbors. Your giving supports a family in China (KaVe and I went through training with this couple). The husband’s “plarorm” job is assisVng Americans looking to travel to China. Through this job, he is building relaVonships with local individuals and sharing the gospel o\en.

There are 4,997 other individuals and families serving all around the world, sharing the message of Christ wherever they are. Through your giving, you are making their ministry possible.

Every year at ChristmasVme, we have another opportunity to support this organizaVon through giving to the Lo_e Moon Christmas Offering. This offering is named a\er a girl who was raised in a wealthy Virginian family, became a Christ-follower in college, then dedicated the rest of her life to serving as a missionary in China. 100% of what you give to this offering goes directly to the InternaVonal Mission Board.

I hope that you and your family will consider supporVng the Lo_e Moon Christmas Offering or one of the many other offerings we are supporVng as a church. These are gi\s that will make an eternal impact.

Your Pastor,

Kevin

Interested in learning more about Northway Church? Then Next@Northway is for you! MeeVng on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am in room M-2, Next@Northway is a casual and conversaVonal environment in which you’ll hear about the different ministries and opportuniVes available through the church. No need to register, come any week and just drop in!

The class will resume Sunday, December 17 and conVnue through January with two weeks off for the holidays. No registraVon is needed and aMendance each week is not required. Come when you can! If you have children, programming is offered for all ages the enVre morning, so your children will be well cared for.

If you have any quesVons or would like more informaVon, please contact Phil Anderson: [email protected].

Since December 24 is on a Sunday, the church is planning to do something different for our morning worship. A family worship service will be held at 10:30 am which will last about 30 minutes. Following the service, we will send our congregaVon out into the community to bless Macon by “being Christmas” to the people around us.

Space for many of our projects has filled up so two new ministries were added this week:

• Serve breakfast to the homeless and needy Help prepare and serve breakfast to those in need at Heritage @ Houston Methodist Church on 4116 Houston Ave. Note that this will take place from 7:00 – 9:00 am rather than a\er church like all of the other efforts.

• Serve lunch to the homeless Assist in serving lunch to those in need at Christ Church on 582 Walnut St. Plan to stay unVl 1:30 pm.

Most of the opportuniVes will be family friendly so that children can parVcipate with their parents. It would also be a great project for a Home Team or connecVon class to do together!

You can read over the list and sign up by clicking on the link below. As the date approaches, the leader of your selecVon will contact you with more specific details. Thank you for helping us “bless the community” this Christmas!

While Northway supports a local ministry each year during December, we also annually provide financial support for the Lo_e Moon Christmas Offering.

StarVng in 1888, the Lo_e Moon Christmas Offering® was established to empower the internaVonal missions efforts for Southern BapVsts. A\er more than a century, the annual offering conVnues its steady growth. The NaVonal Goal this year is $160 Million. Your giving enables missionaries to be sent to make disciples and mulVply churches among unreached peoples and places for the glory of God.

You can be assured that 100% of your gi\s are disbursed through the InternaVonal Mission Board directly to the mission field to fund special projects and needs of our internaVonal missionaries. You can give through the special Lo_e Moon offering envelopes available around the church or by designaVng a porVon of your gi\ to the church.

Ministry focus for December:

One of the ministry partners of Northway Church is a wonderful local organizaVon called Caring SoluVons which provides services in both Macon and Warner-Robins. Their purpose is to offer hope and honor life in the midst of unplanned pregnancy.

The free and confidenVal services of pregnancy tesVng, limited ultrasound, nurse consultaVons, and pregnancy support, offer those who are experiencing an unintended pregnancy the help they need. Clients are provided with informaVon that o\en provides the answers they are looking for. Caring SoluVons aims to create a refuge for them and pray that they feel loved and valued knowing that they are not alone during the pregnancy. Through their support, clients are able to make an informed decision and are connected with the resources that they need if they decide to parent or place for adopVon. Clients are treated with the utmost respect as Caring SoluVons strives to offer HOPE through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

During the month of December, we are asking for you to consider making a donaVon to this ministry through the church. Our bold goal is $30,000 which will go directly to their daily operaVons. Over Vme, they’ve seen that for every $1000 to their budget, a life is saved! Join us in saving lives this year. When you give your offering, simply designate a porVon by lisVng Caring SoluVons as the recipient. For more informaVon on Caring SoluVons, visit: friendsofcaringsoluVons.com

If you are looking for a beauVful manner in which to exercise your compassions during the holidays, the Family Christmas AdopVon Project is a marvelous way to demonstrate the Spirit of Christmas with those who are truly in need. Many families appreciate the opportunity to be part of Project Giving's Family Christmas AdopVon Project in order for their personal children to witness the true meaning of Christmas... loving, serving, and blessing others.

Project Giving uVlizes our educaVonal system via teachers, counselors, and principals to determine the families within their schools who are most in need. What makes this branch of our Project Giving OrganizaVon so unique is that, "WE FIND OUR FAMILIES IN NEED!" A\er selecVng families whose needs are genuine, we partner them with businesses, organizaVons, church affiliaVons, families, and individuals who "adopt" them for Christmas.

If you would like to adopt a family, go to their website www.projectgiving.net to register.
