Standards create efficiencies in terms of time and costs

It provides a uniformity of product that is important to customers

Library Standards- MARC21, Z39.50, MODS, Dublin Core Metadata Initiative

(DCMI),International Standard Serial Number (ISSN),ISO Standards, etc.

“Library vs. Google”

It is easier to go to the Internet than to go to the library (Noam Chomsky)

Non-Library Standards In Libraries- Libraries have to take advantages of these

newly communication of computerized technologies

Internet : No one owns it, Everyone can use it, Anyone can improve it

Social Networking Sites = 21st century communication

• Social networking Sites (SNS) are implementation of web 2.0

• Social network is the mapping and measuring of relationships

• It connects people, groups, organizations ,computers, URLs,and other connected information/knowledge entities.

• Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, activities, events, and interests within their individual networks.

53% of Indians are connected to the internet every waking hour which is

higher than the global average of 51% (A.T .Kearney Report).

India has more than 15% Internet users of their population

urban cities - 29% from October 2013 to reach 177 million in October 2014.

It is expected to reach 190 million by December 2014 and 216 million by

June 2015.

Library staffs can put pictures of library resources that will be electronically stored for long time

Users can save time by asking questions to the library staffs directly to know availability of resources in the library

Library pages will be available to the rest of the world

Users also can contribute to the library by providing various valuable suggestions, adding links to many useful resources

SNS help users to speak freely at any time about any topic

Users’ suggestion will be a good source for libraries’ renovation

Library staffs can understand users’ need and become part of online community

Users especially young generation must be motivated towards local library for betterment of our society

It overcomes the geographical distance that leads to good friendships with users

• Don’t need to keep any computers on all time( 24*7 hours)
