What a great community we are a part of. There are so many examples of people helping and paripg in things to help not only themselves but others within the community.

The Linton & District Pantry is stocked by locals, many of whom donate on a weekly basis. The pantry helps many locals who are struggling or who might be having a rough week.

There are a number of volunteers lined up to help with Clean Up Australia Day next week. Rhea, who is relaely new to the area, has kindly volunteered to manage the morning.

Eugene Grigg is organising an event for “neighbour day” at Wares, Plants ’n’ Things aer hearing about the day on the radio.

Ma and Ken are organising another Karaoke evening at the Linton Bowls Club on the 24th with a Country and Western theme.

Linton & District Progress are busy organising events for the Golden Plains Arts Trail and Lola (see later in the newsleer for further details).

It was also great to see some fresh faces at the Linton & District Progress Commee meethis month. Remember these mees are open to all.

We are always looking for people to help and take part in projects so if you are interested in joining in please let us know. Remember: the more the merrier and many hands make light work.

It is great to see the community working together to help bring Linton to life.

The dancing boom in Linton coues unabated, and the Library is making hay while the sun shines. Saturday night’s dance was ended, and one of the most enjoyable held yet. An all-night ball will be held in aid of the Library on Friday night, 6th July, at the Parish Hall. Much of the success of these dances is due to the excellent music of Mr and Mrs A. Hiscock and Mr G. Sanderson, who give their services free of charge in order to help a local in. They are to be commended for their public spirit. [Note that this was during World War I]

Neighbour Day is an annual event celebrated on the last Sunday in March. The aim is to build better relationships with those people who live in the local community.

For Linton, there will be an event held at Wares, Plants ‘n’ Things from 2pm on Sunday March the 25th. For those attending there will be some drinks and scones provided by the “Pay it Forward Board” that has been funded by the community and travellers through Linton.

So bring a neighbour or a friend from Linton and pop along. A great opportunity to meet new people, look out for each other and have an afternoon out.

Linton and the Golden Plains Arts Trail On the 17th and 18th of March the Golden Plains Arts Trail will hit Linton. There are two official venues and four local artists participating, including Victoria Smith Photography, Marijke Groothuis, Lisa Thomlinson and Neil Southerington.

In addition to the official events, the Linton & District Progress Association has been helping other artists and crafts people also take part in the weekend. All of the shops in town will be used in some way including window displays, pictures being hung and artwork completed by local school aged children being displayed. Printing and blacksmiths displays are planned at the Forge.

Buskers will keep you entertained as you walk the streets of Linton enjoying the visual displays. Further events and displays will also be happening as a part of Lola so the streets of Linton will come to life!

A Friday night preview will also be held for Linton locals who would like a sneak peak.

Further details will be released on the Linton Facebook page and available at Wares, Plants ‘n’ Things and The Linton Bazaar closer to the event.

Got a pile of tyres? Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is warning businesses and landholders of the hazards of keeping piles of waste tyres.

Abandoned tyres form a breeding ground for vermin, tyres can decay and contaminate soil and groundwater, and a tyre fire generates toxic smoke and is difficult to extinguish.

EPA regulations allow storage of waste tyres if you have a genuine use for them, but urges you to dispose of unused waste tyres in landfill or at a recycling facility.

See www.epa.vic.gov.au for advice on what’s legal, and if you suspect someone is illegally stockpiling, dumping or burning old tyres, call EPA’s 24-hour hotline on 1300 EPA VIC (1300 372 842).

Hello everyone, another month has passed us by and with March being full of ac, it will be gone within a ash with school holidays, footy g, and Easter.

    Crime

This month I have a few mers to run past you all. Last month there were two kangaroos killed l at the Cape Clear Park. During the same night there were hoons reported in the Recron Reserve area. To say the ferals were out of control is an understatement. There are suspects who may just nd their utes o the road soon.

There have been a fewres reported. Some have been suspicious and some have been dumb landowners who think just because it is getting cooler they can now burn orubbish. THIS IS NOT ON. FIRE RESTRICTIONS are likely to conue at least the end of March.

Sheep have been reported stolen in the Wallinduc area. There were 128 mixed age ewes and 90 ewe lambs stolen. A suspect will be spoken toon to this oence in the near future.

On Tuesday the 6th of February, a silver Holden Commodore Sedan ended at the Linton Takeaway with three occupants. They have driven owithout paying. Inveons are l ongoing.

You may have seen the helicopter a couple of weeks ago in the area. Due to the hard work of the airwing, there will be a few back doors entered in the next few weeks when you least expect it..

    c

I love it when a plan comes together. In the last month, there have been NO serious accidents reported to police in the area as far as I am aware.

Please start looking at your car in prepon for school holiday travels.

Last month, I asked for informonon to the burnouts on the Glenelg Highway. I now have suspects but need to obtain footage withme and date stamped before my hierarchy will allow me to take the cars under the hoon legislon. Please keep the informon coming in though. Give me an anonymous call or contact Crime Stoppers or Dob In A Hoon.

    GENERAL

During this last week, a lady was pulled from her horse in the Linton area by a large dog. She has sustained injuries to her l leg but will thankfully make a full recovery. The next day the owners of the dog surrendered their PET to be dealt with. They are devastated as well that their dog could do this as they have not witnessed this type of behaviour before. They are responsible dog owners so please do not blame them. There have been horrible comments made on social media and keyboard warriors should refrain from such comments.

I don’t usually do this, as vet costs are so high for the treatment of Ellie the horse, I am willing to take cash donons to assist with the treatment un the end of March.

The envelopes can be dropped o to the Police on or le with my depuunol of course) at Wares, Plants ‘n’ Things Café. Please mark on the envelope Ellie.

Each year, Linton Fire Brigade takes the op-portunity to 'give back' a little of the support we receive and donate back into our Community. This year was the 30th anniversary of the Lin-

ton Community Australia Day breakfast. Whilst we have not been the the driving force for all of these years we are proud to support this wonderful community event and continue

the tradition into the future. With the weather cooling off it is important to remember that the Fire Danger remains high and restrictions still apply. The environment is still tinder dry from a very dry and warm sum-mer. STUBBLE BURNING permits will soon be open to farmers. You may be able to smell or see smoke or a haze from these fires. Don't be alarmed, please call 000 If you SEE FLAMES OR A COLUMN OF SMOKE that you believe is not a controlled burn.

Don’t be complacent, remain vigilant and check the CFA website www.cfa.vic.gov.au, contact

the Brigade with any concerns or queries.

Linton Members will be collecting money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal on Good Fri-

Our Vision: Fostering Excellence through Respect, Responsibility and Community Connection. This term we have welcomed our new preps, four in all, to begin their learning journey with Linton Primary School. We also welcomed the Benning family and new staff Miss Choi (Korean) and Mrs. Hilder (sharing Grade 3-6 with Miss Walker).

Athletics practice is well under way, building up to the Linton District School Sports Association’s carnival on Friday the 23rd of March. New programs this year are a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics joint venture with Cape Clear P.S. students, headed by Miss Walker and Mrs. Mellusco from Cape Clear. Our Musical Futures program is also building momentum, with new instrument purchases supporting classroom based lessons in ukulele, guitar and drumming.

We are currently participating in the Coles Sports for Schools promotion. Thank you to those who have already dropped off vouchers to the school letterbox, and to everyone else, we would love to have your support.

Thanks are already due to all of our families who attended our Term I working bee, to our mowing team, our Breakfast Club helpers, Parents and Friends members and Tony Walker. Tony is whipping our cross-country team into shape (and me by default) with a weekly run to supplement our morning fitness activities.

Linton & District Men’s Shed Update

As we enter our third year at the Linton & District Men’s Shed, things are continuing apace. Our local communities are increasingly supportive of us and our activities. Recent examples of projects we have been asked to undertake are the renovation of Linton’s town bench seats, restoration of an outdoor table, building a ramp to enable a resident to access his front door with his motorised scooter, building a plant potting table, restoration of a garden bench, cleaning up a yard for someone unable to do it them-selves, cutting firewood – and the list goes on.

In addition to these community projects, members work on their own projects includ-ing children’s toys, Dr Who’s Tardises (or is it Tardi?), bird feeders, camping tables, wood turning, etc.

We have a good balance between projects and fellowship. We enjoy sitting around the table and having a cuppa and a good chat where we can brainstorm projects, solve the problems of the world or help a member with his problems.

We invite everyone to call in and visit us on Wednesdays and Saturdays anytime between 11am and 3pm. You will be made welcome and you can have a look at what we do, our

equipment and us. You could also have a look at some stuff we have for sale. We are always keen for new mem-bers – come in and give it a go!

It is timely to express our thanks to local businesses who have supported us over the years – Linton Takeaway, Smythesdale & Skipton Supermarkets and Linton’s Wares, Plants ‘n’ Things. We also value Kath Blackwell as a friend

    of our shed.

Bennita, our secretary, is recovering from a recent successful lung transplant. We hear that Bennita is progressing well and we all wish her and Michael and their family all the best for the future. We look forward to their return.

Play reading resumed this month with a 'Gay melodrama from the 90s' and one act plays from America and Russia. All very different pieces of writing in their own right with opportunities to try out accents and even sing. Stretched us all somewhat! Lots

of laughs! David and I visited The Victorian Drama League in Melbourne last week to peruse a number of plays and choose suitable texts for the group to read in the future. The Drama league is one of those funny little places accessed via a door from a laneway, a very slow elevator or three flights of steps and past a

number of offices of various obscure organisations. The shelves are lined with plays of all genres and staffed by some eccentric but very knowledgeable folk. A fascinating place to visit.

On the 7th of March, playwright Julia Cull will be meeting with us to discuss writing a play for our group to read as part of the LOLA festival. More on that next month and more about LOLA elsewhere in this newsletter!

Queries, questions, further information on our 2018 start date etc. can be found by calling either David 0447310565 or Teresa 0407515298. Cheers.

Linton Recreation Reserve The Linton Reon Reserve is currently undergoing various maintenance and facility and upgrades. New pc seats in front of the canteen area have been installed to replace the old wooden seats, while an improved drainage system around the netball/tennis courts and repairs to court cracking are also being carried out inme for the netball season. A new gas deep-fry chip cooker has recently been installed in the canteen area. Not only is this a much-needed addon considering the large quanes of potato chips that are sold during the football/netball matches, but is also a useful upgrade for other users of the kitchen facility. The management commee has also obtained quotes to replace the carpet and vinyl in the Blue Room, canteen/kitchen and foyer area, which will hopefully go ahead in this nancial year. Hans Verdoorn has been doing a great job in constantly monitoring the watering system and informing the Shire of maintenance requirements, allowing the oval to be in good condon in e for the football season and the Linton & District School Sports.

LINTON RECREATION RESERVE MASTER PLAN The management commiee is pleased to announce that the Golden Plains Shire has appointed ASR Research to assist in developing a Master Plan for the Linton Recon Reserve. The consulon process will commence this month when the Council and ASR Research will meet with the major users of the Reserve to introduce the Master Plan and explain the process. The consuln and master plan process involving the major users, and any other users, will be completed by the end of June. The aim of the master plan is to: • Assess the demand for spong and reon

faciles ng to the aforemoned site to determine and priose future needs.

    • Review the condon and provision of the sport and reon facilis at the site.

    • Work with Management Ento ideny current and future pcipon opportunes.

    • Work with Management Ento ideny capital and strategic development opportunes at each site.

    • Provide recommendons for future developments including cogs and funding responsibiles.

    • Produce a site plan detailing the recommended loon of potal developments for the loon.

This will be completed via the following methods: • A literature review, including a review of

background reports and plans. • Review of 2016 ABS census data and popuon

trends and all other relevant data. • Interviews and consulon sessions with the

Management User group represenves at the site.

    • Site analysis and review of exng facili at the site and surrounding town of Linton.

    • An analysis of capital and maintenance costs of the proposed faciles.

    • Prepaon ofnal master plans and associated documon.

In on to the points above, both maintaining and increasing the use of the faciles would be a signant help in obtaining future upgrade funding and major improvements. The Linton Recrean Reserve is available for casual users to hire for sporng, community, business or private funcns. If you wish to enquire about the Linton Recrean Reserve or make a booking, please contact Bill on 0429 480 335.

    CARNGHAM LINTON FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB

The Carngham Linton Football Netball Club continues to gather healthy attendances at pre-season training for both football and netball as we prepare for a big season in 2018. The senior footballers will have their first hit-out on Wednesday March 6th at 6.00pm, when they play a practice match against Royal Park at the Ballarat High School oval, followed by a barbeque. Practice matches will also be played against the SMW Rovers at Linton on Saturday March 17th, followed by an away match at Apollo Bay on Saturday March 24th. The club has continued to recruit successfully at senior level in recent weeks, with Jake Cahill, Damon Gillingham and Zac Matheson among new players adding to an improving senior list. Under-18 and Under-15 football training commenced at the Linton Recreation Reserve on Thursday February 22nd. Zane Ross and Hayden Budds will continue to coach the Under-18 team in 2018, which has been boosted by some new recruits and a number of players that have come up from last year’s Under-15 team. After doing a great job coaching the under-12 side last year, Terry Fradd has moved up to become the new Under-15 coach in 2018. The club will also be announcing its new Under-12 coach and Auskick coordinator in the near future, as we again look forward to fielding teams in all grades. The club is also very excited to announce that three senior players from the Western Bulldogs AFL team will be visiting a Carngham Linton FNC training session on Thursday March 1st between 5.00 and 6.00pm. All club players, members and supporters are welcome to come along and meet the Bulldogs players. Regular training for the senior grade netballers commenced on Thursday February 22nd, while the junior grade netballers have also commenced training. After

holding four squad selection nights and fitness sessions headed by new coach Talia Holloway-Roden during February, the girls are looking forward to an improved showing across all grades in 2018. The club’s first annual Family/Registration Day was held at the Carngham Recreation Reserve on Sunday February 11th. The day was a great success, with netball activities, a Twenty20 cricket match, and a number of players paying the registration fees for the year. The club wishes to thank all the volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly. The club is still accepting players to fill the five football and six netball teams that play each week. In the football, we field senior, reserves, under-18, under-15 and under-12 teams. In the netball, we have A, B and C grade senior teams, as well as under-17, under-15 and under-13 junior teams. We are also encouraging more parents, members and supporters to get involved and assist in the many jobs

required on game day. If you think you would like to help but are unsure of what is required, club members will be more than happy to train you. To join the playing group or adopt a volunteer role at the club, the following committee members can be contacted for assistance:-

    Sam Richardson - President (0418 856 047) Tim O’Brien – Junior Football Director (0418 153 528) Ally Clack - Netball Director (0400 250 053)

With only one round of the 2017-2018 season to go, Linton & District Bowling Club have three teams in the finals. A great effort from all bowlers to achieve this result. Midweek Division 4 Linton finished in 2nd spot on the ladder, just 6 points from top spot. The ladder being Buninyong 220 pts, Linton 214 pts, Central Wendouree 196 pts, and Daylesford 140 pts. Linton play Buninyong in the second semi-final and will go into this final feeling confident after beating Buninyong in the last round of the pennant. To all bowlers in Division 4—a great effort all year, let’s bring home the Premiership. Division 2 With one round of the season to go, the Plovers are on top of the perch with 199pts. The ladder is currently Linton 199pts, Waubra 180 pts, Beaufort Golf 163 pts, City Oval 163 pts and Smeaton 159 pts. Linton play Waubra, while City Oal and Smeaton play off for 4th spot. Once again a great effort from the Div. 2 bowlers. The Plovers will play Waubra in the second semi with the winner going straight into the grand final. The Linton bowlers have a chance to make history for the club in its 49th year to see Linton & District Bowling club play in Division 1 in 2019. What a great 50th birthday present! Division 4 Last round of the season and the Div. 4 bowlers have only an outside chance to snatch fourth place. Linton will have to win 18 points maximum as City Oval and Midlands would both have to lose agains lower clubs. Well, well, funny things happen in sport. The Fours went off the boil, going down to bottom of the ladder Ballarat East and 3rd bottom Mt Xavier. These 2 losses made the run to the finals a hard task. Division 9 The 9s are sitting in second spot on 118 pts, well behind Waubra on 154 pts. In third spot is Invermay on 107, followed by B.MS on

100pts just 1 point away (on 99pts) is Beaufort in 5th place. Linton, with this last round ot play, will be hoping to hold 2nd

position. To have a second chance to make the grand final again to all bowlers who have helped out during the year a fantastic effort. Special mention: The four Div. 2 bowlers in Glen Landers, (Lead) Nick Pearce (2nd), Rod Hetherington (3rd) and Beau Trail (Skip) on obtaining the Maximum 8! That is 8 bowls (2 bowls each) closest to the jack than their opposition on consecutive days 10th and 11th of Feb. To have one a 8 is very rare in bowling terms, but 2 in 2 days is like winning the Melbourne Cup 2 years in a row! Well done guys! Club Pairs

The Club Pairs have been decided and for the 2nd year in a row Beau Trail has been victorious thanks to his new partner in Nick Pearce. They both played consistent bowls to get over the line by 6 shots to Tony Walker and Sid Walters. Country Week From everyone at Linton Bowling Club congratulations to both Craig Grenfell and Brendan Vandenberg on winning the Country Week Pairs Championship. Barefoot Bowls Thanks to everyone around the district for coming along and trying barefoot bowls every Friday night through January and February. It has been great to see new faces around the club with fun and banter. From all the Club thanks to Wayne Brearley for organising these nights. Social To all around the district, the club, in conjunction with Matt Stokes and Ken McLachlan, have set the date for the next karaoke evening. March 24th will be a Western Karaoke with free entry and a $2 sausage sizzle. So come along and enjoy a great night. Till next time—keep well, keep safe. Cliff Sinclair.

The Linton Blue Cricket side are celebrating making the finals! Finishing 4th on the ladder ending the season on a high with a very close game against Carranballac, winning by 1 wicket, and secured their place in the finals. A great season by the club who managed to field two teams.
