***12/03/2010*12/03/2010*Step 1: Obtain a list of district/ MD grants from staff

Step 2: Determine who to contact to get more information regarding a specific grant; usually the DG

Step 3: Talk with Lions involved with the grant or program; ask to speak with those impacted by the grant

Step 4: Invite speakers involved with the grant to Lions events

Step 5: Have Lions or constituents give interviews to local papers or for the district newsletter; determine if waivers or other logistics are needed

Step 6: Organize tours for your top donors (individuals or clubs). Could be preceded by breakfast, or followed by lunch/dinner. Maybe offer special volunteer opportunities with that project if available.

*12/03/2010*During the Lions Clubs 96th annual convention in Hamburg, Germany, an announcement was made to raise US$30 million and to improve access to vaccines through the GAVI Alliance, a public-private partnership whose mission is to save childrens lives and protect peoples health by increasing access to immunization in the worlds poorest countries. The funds raised by the Lions will be matched by the UKs Department for International Development (DFID) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, bringing the total to US$60 million.

By pulling the specialist skills of all the main players in immunisation - WHO,UNICEF, theWorld Bank, theBill & Melinda Gates Foundation, donor governments, developing countries, international development and finance organisations and the pharmaceutical industry -into one, decision-making body, GAVI has brought a single-minded focus to the urgent task of closing three critical gaps in the provision of vaccines:between children for whom immunisation is a given and the 22 million children worldwide with no access to basic vaccines;between the introduction of a new vaccine in rich countries and the average 10-15 years required for the same vaccine to reach low-income countries;between the need for new vaccines in developing countries and the lack of research and funds to provide them.

Underthe GAVI Matching Fund, the UK and Gates Foundation match contributions to GAVI from corporations, foundations, their members, customers, employees and business partners with a goal of raising US$ 260 million for immunisation through 2015.July 2013 marks the 45th anniversary of Special Olympics. For over four decades, Special Olympics has been changing lives through the power of sport -- both on and off the playing fieldSO holds more than 70,000 competitions every year, providing health screenings for the most underserved, and building communities of acceptanceThe 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games will be held in Vancouver, B.C., and the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will be held in New Jersey

LCIF is pledging US$7.8 million to Special Olympics, expanding worldwide efforts to support the inclusion and well-being of people with intellectual disabilities. Building on the organizations 14-year history of collaboration, this pledge is part of a new multi-year partnership plan that will strengthen ties between Special Olympics and LCI at the country and the community level. The partnership is providing health services, engaging youth and encouraging family support to benefit the global population of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

**Find new donorsIdentify clubs or individuals who have not given in the past and invite them to make a gift.Identify clubs or individuals that may have given occasionally in the past and invite them to become regular supporters of LCIF.Get current donors to increase their level of supportIdentify clubs or individuals that have regularly supported LCIF in the past, and ask them to increase that level of support. For example, ask a club to consider naming two MJFs per year, rather than only one.Identify a cause or program that is especially important to the Lions in your area, and ask them to make a special gift toward that cause or program.
