Collection and Use of Personal Data by Lions Clubs International

Lions Club International recognizes the importance of protecting the private information of our members. LCI collects personal information about Lions Club members to facilitate communications with and between our members. This information is to be used solely to further its purposes including that “to unite the clubs in bonds of friendship, good fellowship, and mutual understanding” and to conduct its necessary operational activities including:

Dues and other billings

Distribution of The Lion magazine and membership/officer information updates.

Compilation of membership profiles and trends to support membership growth, extension and retention programs.

Convention and meeting planning.

Contact information for Lion leaders, including past and present International Officers, Directors, and Board Appointees, Multiple District Council Chairpersons, and Council of Governors, District and Vice-District Governors, and Club Officers.

Furtherance of Public Relations activities and Cooperative Alliances.

Support of Lions Club International Foundation and other adopted service programs.

Special advertising, non-dues revenue programs or other purposes in accordance with the Purposes and Objectives as determined by the International Board of Directors.

Disclosure of information as required by law or that is pertinent to judicial or governmental investigations. Lions Clubs International protects personal information by using password-protected areas and by restricting access to such information. It Is important that you protect your password.

Any payment information collected is protected by software during transmission, which encrypts all of your personal information so that it can be safeguarded over internet channels. We reveal only a limited commercial mailing list and Lions Club members should ensure it is not used for that purpose.

Lions International Purposes

To Organize, charter and supervise service clubs to be known as Lions clubs.

To Coordinate the activities and standardize the administration of Lions clubs.

To Create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

To Promote the principles of good government and good citizenship.

To Take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community

To Unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship, and mutual understanding.

To Provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics

and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.

To Encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage

efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.

Lions Code of Ethics

To Show my faith in my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of

service.

To Seek success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the

price of my own self-respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part.

To Remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another’s; to be loyal to my clients or

customers and true to myself.

Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubt

against myself.

To Hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service

performed by one another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.

Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state, and my community, as to give them my

unswerving loyalty in word, act, and deed. To give then freely of my time, labor, and means.

To Aid others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.

To be Careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.

History of the International Association Of Lions Clubs Officially formed October, 1917

First President: Dr. W.P. Woods (Indiana) Vice-President: L.H. Lewis, (Dallas, Texas)

Secretary/Treasurer: Melvin Jones (Chicago, Illinois) One-Year Director: C.H. Kirk (Houston, Texas)

First meeting convened with 36 delegates and eight alternates. There were 12 original clubs from Texas that joined lionism when it was officially formed. These were Abilene, Austin, Beaumont, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, Paris, Port Arthur, San Antonio, Temple, Waco, and Wichita Falls. These clubs are known as Founder Clubs.

In October 8, 1917, Texas became District 4.

In 1921 District 4 became District 2 as a result of the International Convention in Oakland, California.

At the 1930 Convention held in Austin, Texas District 2 was divided into 5 Districts. (2T, 2E, 2X, 2A, & 2S)

After the 1942 Convention, District 2S was divided into three Districts: 2-S1, 2-S2, and 2-S3. This increased the number of Districts in Texas to seven.

At the Convention held in 1958, District 2T was divided into three Districts: 2-T1, 2-T2, and 2-T3. This increased the number of districts in Texas to nine.

At the Convention in 1959, Texas was divided into fifteen Districts: 2-T1, 2-T2, 2-T3, 2-E1, 2-E2, 2-X1, 2-X2, 2-X3, 2-A1, 2-A2, 2-A3, 2-S1, 2-S2, 2-S3, and 2-S4.

At the Convention in 1988, Texas was divided into sixteen Districts: adding District 2-S5. There are still sixteen Districts in Texas as of 2013-2014.

Elevation of Lions of District 2-A2 into the Hall of Fame is bestowed upon one who has been outstanding in using their time, talents and resources to further the cause of humanitarian service. Selection is made by the Hall of Fame Committee. Minimum standards to qualify are: • Be an active member with at least 15 years of service. • Having provided outstanding and dedicated service to Lionism. • Having provided other than Lionistic service to the community, state, and nation. • Having accomplished special achievements in, or contributed to, humanitarian service for those less fortunate, and • Not having solicited in any manner for this recognition, which automatically eliminates the soliciting candidate for that year.

Lions Clubs International Dues per Member

A resolution to increase International Dues to be phased in over two years was voted and approved by the membership at the International Convention. The Dues increase will be effective July 1, 2012. Dues will be billed as follows: MEMBERSHIP DUES (a) Semi-annual membership dues of twenty dollars and fifty cents (US$20.50) denominated in U.S. dollars shall be levied on each club member during the 2013-14 term, beginning July 1, 2013. (b) Semi-annual membership dues of twenty-one dollars and fifty cents (US$21.50) denominated in U.S. dollars shall be levied on each member during the 2013-14 term, beginning July 1, 2013. (c) For family membership programs as adopted by the International Board of Directors, the following dues shall apply: (1) The first family member, Head of Household, shall pay semi-annual membership dues as provided in sub-section (a) or (b) above, depending on the term. (2) Subsequent qualifying family members, not to exceed four additional qualifying members per household, shall pay semi-annual membership dues equal to one-half (1/2) of the total amount paid by the first family member as described in subsection (c)(1). (d) For student membership programs as adopted by the International Board of Directors, eligible student members shall pay semi-annual membership dues equal to one-half (1/2) of the total amount of dues as provided in sub-section (a) or (b) above, depending on the term.

Dear Lions and Ladies:

I suppose you have heard the legend that represents opportunity as a capricious lady, who knocks at every

door but once, and if the door isn't opened quickly, she passes on, never to return. And that is as it should be.

Lovely, desirable ladies won't wait. You have to go out and grab 'em.

I am your opportunity. I am knocking at your door. I want to be adopted. The legend doesn't say what you

are to do when several beautiful opportunities present themselves at the same door. I guess you have to

choose the one you love best. I hope you will adopt me. I am the youngest here, and what I offer you is full

of splendid opportunities for service.

The American Foundation for the Blind is only four years old. It grew out of the imperative needs of the

blind, and was called into existence by the sightless themselves. It is national and international in scope and

in importance. It represents the best and most enlightened thought on our subject that has been reached so

far. Its object is to make the lives of the blind more worthwhile everywhere by increasing their economic

value and giving them the joy of normal activity.

Try to imagine how you would feel if you were suddenly stricken blind today. Picture yourself stumbling and

groping at noonday as in the night; your work, your independence, gone. In that dark world wouldn't you be

glad if a friend took you by the hand and said, "Come with me and I will teach you how to do some of the

things you used to do when you could see?" That is just the kind of friend the American Foundation is going

to be to all the blind in this country if seeing people will give it the support it must have.

You have heard how through a little word dropped from the fingers of another, a ray of light from another

soul touched the darkness of my mind and I found myself, found the world, found God. It is because my

teacher learned about me and broke through the dark, silent imprisonment which held me that I am able to

work for myself and for others. It is the caring we want more than money. The gift without the sympathy

and interest of the giver is empty. If you care, if we can make the people of this great country care, the blind

will indeed triumph over blindness.

The opportunity I bring to you, Lions, is this: To foster and sponsor the work of the American Foundation

for the Blind. Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little

deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your

sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of

the Blind in this crusade against darkness?

LIONS EMBLEM

Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety

Throughout the World, Lions are recognized by the emblem they wear on their lapels. It

consists of a gold letter “L” on a circular purple field. Bordering this a circular gold area with two

lion profiles at either side facing away from the center. The word “LIONS” appears at the top,

and “International” at the bottom. Symbolically the lions face both the past and the future-

proud of the past and confident of the future.

Lions Prayer

Lord help me build a Lions Club that will be strong enough to know when it is weak. Men and Women brave enough to face themselves when they are afraid. A Lions Club that will be proud and unbending in honest defeats, and humble in its victories. Help me build a Club whose wishbone will not be where its backbone should be. A Club whose heart will be clear and whose goal will be high Lions who will master themselves before they seek to master others. Lions who will learn to laugh, yet never forget to weep. Lions who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past. They may ask that I be granted enough of a sense of humor so that I may always be serious but never take myself seriously. Give me the humility, so that I may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength, so that I have not serve thee and this Lions Club in vain.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S GOALS 2014-2015

No matter how successful the team or organization, practice of the fundamentals is a basic element to continued success. For that reason, we declare that 2014-2015 will be a time to “Go Back to the Basics” in our goal setting.

The following Fundamental Goals should help us as we show others who and what we are about and illustrate that we do have “HEARTS as BIG as TEXAS”:

1. Each Club will sponsor or take part in at least one Vision Screening Event - MESU or KidSight

2. Each Club will provide eye exams and glasses to two needy children or adults

3. Each Club will collect 200 pair of used eyeglasses and deliver to the District Eyeglass Chairman.

4. Each Club will sponsor two children to the Texas Lions Camp

5. Each Club will report with written report and pictures or video on two separate service projects that they will do in their community this year and pass on to their Zone Chair

6. Each Club will have one contestant entry into the Peace Poster Contest or any of the Youth Opportunity Contests.

7. Each Club will report the name and contact information of each new member of the Club within seven days of the new member’s induction to the 1st VDG. In addition, the Club maintains positive membership growth from the LCI verified MMR for June 2014 member total to the June 2015 MMR member total. Net gain of (+1) is required. (Accomplishment of this goal, by itself, entitles the Club to be recognized with a “YEAR ROUND GROWTH” Banner Patch. )

8. Each Club will participate in the Club Excellence Program (CEP PRO or CEP Lite) as facilitated through their Zone Chair and the District GLT Coordinator. Verification through appropriate sources of all goals will be required. The foregoing goal items will be reported to Zone Chairs who will keep updated summaries of the Clubs’ work in these categories. Final Results will be announced at the 1st Cabinet Meeting of the 2015-2016 Lions Year. Monthly activity reports on other Club work including Club recruiting efforts and all other service work will also be collected.

Clubs having accomplished (5) out of goals (1 thru 6) as listed, shall have earned the designation as a 2014-2015 HEART of the LION CLUB and receive the Heart of the Lion Club Banner Patch Clubs having accomplished (8) out of goals (1 thru 8) as listed, shall have also earned the designation as a 2014-2015 HEART of the LION CLUB and receive the Heart of the Lion Club Banner Patch and Each Member of the Club will receive the accompanying Heart of the Lion Medal.
