Welcome Back

It has been wonderful to see all students back on site this week. Students have engaged positively with face to face

learning and enjoyed being back with their friends in the playground. All students are now required to be back at school

engaging in face to face lessons. The following are the current Department of Education expectations regarding student

attendance:

All students should be at school unless: They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical

condition They are currently unwell. Students who have a medical certificate to stay at home will be supported to learn from home in line with regular procedures if they are able to. These regular procedures are different to what was offered during the learning from home period. If you require work to be provided to your child whilst they are at home due to an underlying health condition, you should contact the school for assistance. Please note, students who live with a family member in one of the categories identified as being at increased risk by the AHPPC, should attend school unless a medical practitioner advises otherwise in writing. If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. If a student is absent without a medical reason for more than three days, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school. If you require additional support to get your child back to school or would like to discuss whether they meet Department requirements not to attend, please contact the school and we can talk through your concerns. Schools are safe places to be and Lismore Public School is implementing all the current safety procedures recommended by the Department of Health. The greatest risk still remains adults transmitting COVID 19 to each other. As a result there will be no non-essential adults onsite until these guidelines change. This includes all parent volunteers and scripture teachers. There will be no whole school assemblies, excursions or incursions until the advice changes. Numbers will be limited in the school office and main staffroom. Staff will continue to meet using video conferencing platforms. These measures will remain in place until we are advised that health guidelines have changed. Drop off and Pick Up Drop off and pick up procedures will remain the same with all students being dismissed to a designated gate and parents and carers collecting them off site. Please ensure your child knows which gate they will be collected from in the afternoon. The dismissal of students went reasonably well on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. We appreciate your patience as we continue to refine these procedures. Parents and carers should drop their children at the school gate in the mornings. Parents and carers of younger children who do not feel comfortable leaving them at the gate are asked to arrive at school when supervision starts at 8.40am, drop their child to the teacher on duty and leave the school grounds quickly. Please do not linger and chat. We ask that you support us to keep both staff and other parents safe. Hygiene Support Staff have been reminding Students about washing their hands before entering the classroom, using their own

equipment and water bottle and ensuring they follow coughing and sneezing health protocols. They are also not

permitted to engage in physical activities which involve contact with others, including soccer and tips. Whilst students

no longer need to follow social distancing guidelines, it is extremely important that students follow staff instructions with

regards to safety behaviours to keep everyone healthy. Should students not exhibit safe behaviours in relation to

COVID 19 they will follow our consequence pathway and parents will be contacted. It would be appreciated if you could

speak to your children about this.

School Events

School staff are all very excited to be back to full time face to face teaching and learning. We are currently looking at

ways we can still hold our Cross Country, Athletics activities and NAIDOC Celebrations under the current health

guidelines. We will keep you all posted about what these events will look like.

Again, I would like to thank you all for the support you have given our students and staff during this time. As a community we must continue to follow the health advice and as adults maintain social distancing and good hygiene practices so we can take the next steps towards the easing of lockdown restrictions. Have a wonderful week everyone!!

Use Equipment for it’s purpose

As we return to face to face teaching at Lismore Public School some students may experi-

ence some anxiety and refuse to come to school.

School Refusal

For some students non-attendance can be a symptom or coping strategy. They may be

anxious about coming back to school, due to health concerns, academic work, or peer diffi-

culties.

It is important to ask and listen to the reasons why they don’t want to come to school, and

help them brainstorm healthier ways of responding to whatever the underlying fear or anxi-

ety is. If your child is having difficulties returning to school, please speak to their teacher.

CHANGES TO LIBRARY BORROWING

Due to COVID-19, students are currently not able to browse books on the shelves. However, students are still able to borrow and return

books. Teachers will have library books in class for students too. If you would like to borrow books for home, they will need to be

reserved through the Oliver library system.

1. Search for NSW student portal 2. Click on Oliver Library

3. Take a look at the guided tour then search for or choose a book from the display.

4. Click the title of the book. 5. Click reserve.

In line with DoE guidelines for infection control for librarians, when books are returned they are quarantined for 24 hours before being

cleaned and returned, then they are available again for loans.

LIBRARY CHANGES

There are more changes in the library too. Mrs Ramsay is very excited to announce that the library will be undergoing a refurbishment!

The changes are going to make the library an inviting space for reading, browsing, learning, and collaborating.

At the moment, students will only be allowed to use one section of the library. The rest of the library will be out of bounds to students. As with other rooms, they will need to wash their hands before entering. Another change is entry to the library at the moment will be through the door at the top of the stairs. Passive play at lunch and recess will be in the library. It is expected that book reserves can be collected at those times too.
