Metaphor

- Saying something is something

Simile

- Comparing 2 things using "like" or "as"

Personification

- Giving non-human objects human characteristics

Onomatopoeia

- Using a word whose sound imitates it's meaning

Alliteration

- Repetition of the first letter in a sentence

Mood

- Expressing feelings and vibes through words and descriptions

Flashback

- When a character looks back on a memory to show its importance

Hyperbole

- An extreme exaggeration

Foreshadowing

- Hinting at what's coming next

Dramatic irony

- When the reader or audience knows something a character doesn't

Situational irony

- The outcome of what is expected to happen doesn't happen
