Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer

persecution. 2 Timothy 3:12. But, Blessed [are] they which

are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the

kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10. I will call on the LORD,[who is] worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine

enemies. When the waves of death compassed me, the

floods of ungodly men made me afraid; The sorrows of hell

compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me; Inmy distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and

he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry [did enter

into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the

foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was

wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out

of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He delivered

me from my strong enemy, [and] from them that hated me:

for they were too strong for me. 2 Samuel 22:5-9, 18



The signs of the times give evidence that the judgments of

heaven are being poured out, that the day of the Lord is at

hand. The daily papers are full of indications of an intense

conflict in the future. Bold robberies are of frequentoccurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are

committed on every hand. Men possessed by demons are

taking the lives of men, women, and little children. All these

things testify that the Lord's coming is near. {Mar 175.2}The restraining Spirit of God is even now being

withdrawn from the world. Hurricanes, storms, tempests,

disasters by sea and by land, follow one another in quick

succession. The signs thickening around us, telling of the

near approach of the Son of God, are attributed to any other

than the true cause. . . . {Mar 175.3}



The time is right upon us when there will be sorrow in the

world that no human balm can heal. Even before the last

great destruction comes upon the world, the flattering

monuments of man's greatness will be crumbled in the dust.God's retributive judgments will fall on those who in the

face of great light have continued in sin. Costly buildings,

supposed to be fireproof, are erected. But as Sodom

perished in the flames of God's vengeance, so will theseproud structures become ashes. I have seen vessels which

cost immense sums of money wrestling with the mighty

ocean, seeking to breast the angry billows. But with all their

treasures of gold and silver, and with all their human freight,

they sank into a watery grave.... But amid the tumult of

excitement, with confusion in every place, there is a work to

be done for God in the world. {Mar 175.4}



As men depart further and further from God, Satan is

permitted to have power over the children of disobedience.

He hurls destruction among men. There is calamity by land

and sea. Property and life are destroyed by fire and flood.Satan puts his interpretation upon events, and they [leading

men] think, as he would have them, that the calamities

which fill the land are a result of Sunday-breaking. Thinking

to appease the wrath of God, these influential men makelaws enforcing Sunday observance. They think that by

exalting this false rest-day higher, and still higher,

compelling obedience to the Sunday law, the spurious

sabbath, they are doing God service. Those who honor God

by observing the true Sabbath are looked upon as disloyal to

God, when it is really those who thus regard them who are

themselves disloyal, because they are trampling under foot

the Sabbath originated in Eden. {Mar 176.4}







The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty, for it is the

point of truth especially controverted. When the final test

shall be brought to bear upon men, then the line of

distinction will be drawn between those who serve God andthose who serve Him not. {LDE 225.2}

Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they

may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through

the gates into the city. (REVELATION. 22: 14). Here is thepatience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the

commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

(REVELATION. 14: 12).



Sin is the transgression of God’s law {1 John. 3:4}. Even

transgressing the fourth commandment (Remember the

Sabbath Day) is sin and in transgressing, the wages of sin is

death. The only power of God unto salvation is through the

lamb of God, who was slain from the foundation of the

world. Jesus predestined the whole world be save, for Godso loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. For

Jesus came into this world , not to condemn the world, but

the world through him be saved {John.3 16,17}. The cup of

God’s wrath of indignation is about to be poured out uponall who live in transgression and sin, but we have a way of

escape through Christ, the King of Righteousness. That is

because he took that cup of the wrath of God for us in

Gethsemane and Calvary



And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice,

If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive

[his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall

drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured outwithout mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall

be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the

holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the

smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: andthey have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and

his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep

the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

(REVELATION. 14: 9-12).



But the seven last plagues comprise the wrath of God. This

wrath is poured upon those who worship the Beast

(PAPACY) and his Image, upon those who refuse to keep the

commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. And the ThirdAngel's Message is to warn men against that worship, that

they may escape this wrath; and it calls them especially to

"keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

{October 9, 1900 ATJ, ARSH 648.18}



And each one who lives the natural course of life, will be called upon,

and that soon, to decide for himself whether he will "worship Him that

made Heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters"

(Rev. 14:5-12); or whether he will renounce allegiance to God and

worship the papal power and the National Reform image to it in theUnited States. The commandment of God says, "The seventh day is the

Sabbath of the Lord thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work." In

defiance of this commandment, and upon the sole authority of the

Catholic Church, the National Reformers are going to enact a law bywhich they can compel everybody to keep Sunday. But, "If any man

worship the beast and his image, . . . he shall drink of the wine of the

wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his

indignation. . . . Here is the patience of the saints; here are they that

keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus." Rev. 14:9-

The prophecy of Revelation 13 declares that the power

represented by the beast with lamblike horns shall cause

"the earth and them which dwell therein" to worship the

papacy—there symbolized by the beast "like unto aleopard." The beast with two horns is also to say "to them

that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to

the beast;" and, furthermore, it is to command all, "both

small and great, rich and poor, free and bond," to receivethe mark of the beast. Revelation 13:11-16. It has been shown

that the United States is the power represented by the beast with

lamblike horns, and that this prophecy will be fulfilled when the

United States shall enforce Sunday observance, which Rome claims asthe special acknowledgment of her supremacy. But in this homage to

the papacy the United States will not be alone. The whole world shall

wonder after the beast(PAPACY), whose name is not written in the

LAMB’s book of life (Revelation 13:8).



The influence of Rome in the countries that once

acknowledged her dominion is still far from being destroyed.

And prophecy foretells a restoration of her power. "I saw

one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and hisdeadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after

the beast." Verse 3. The infliction of the deadly wound

points to the downfall of the papacy in 1798. After this, says

the prophet, "his deadly wound was healed: and all theworld wondered after the beast." Paul states plainly that the

"man of sin" will continue until the second advent. 2

Thessalonians 2:3-8. To the very close of time he will carry forward

the work of deception. And the revelator declares, also referring to thepapacy: "All that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose

names are not written in the book of life." Revelation 13:8. In both the

Old and the New World, the papacy will receive homage in the honor

paid to the Sunday institution, that rests solely upon the authority ofthe Roman Church. DD 27.1



No one has yet received the mark of the beast.

Sunday keeping is not yet the mark of the beast, and

will not be until the decree goes forth causing men

to worship this idol sabbath. The time will come

when this day will be the test, but that time has not

come yet. 7BC 977 (1899). {LDE 224.6}

God has given men the Sabbath as a sign between

Him and them as a test of their loyalty. Those who,

after the light regarding God's law comes to them,continue to disobey and exalt human laws above the

law of God in the great crisis before us, will receive

the mark of the beast.--Ev 235 (1900). {LDE 225.1}



Satanic agencies have been moved from beneath, and they

have inspired men to unite in a confederacy of evil, that they

may perplex, harass, and cause of the people of God great

distress. The whole world is to be stirred with enmityagainst Seventh-day Adventists, because they will not yield

homage to the papacy, by honoring Sunday, the institution

of this antichristian power. It is the purpose of Satan to

cause them to be blotted from the earth, in order that hissupremacy of the world may not be disputed. {TM 36.2}



Prepared for Injustice.--As Christ was hated without cause,

so will His people be hated because they are obedient to the

commandments of God. If He who was pure, holy, and

undefiled, who did good and only good in our world, wastreated as a base criminal and condemned to death, His

disciples must expect but similar treatment, however

faultless may be their life and blameless their character.

{7BC 977.4}Human enactments, laws manufactured by satanic

agencies under a plea of goodness and restriction of evil,

will be exalted, while God's holy commandments are

despised and trampled underfoot. And all who prove their

loyalty by obedience to the law of Jehovah must be

prepared to be arrested, to be brought before councils that

have not for their standard the high and holy law of God (RH

I also saw that many do not realize what they must be in

order to live in the sight of the Lord without a high priest in

the sanctuary through the time of trouble. Those whoreceive the seal of the living God and are protected in the

time of trouble must reflect the image of Jesus

fully. {Early Writings page 71.1}

"Said the angel, "Deny self; ye must step fast." Some of us have had

time to get the truth and to advance step by step, and every step we

have taken has given us strength to take the next. But now time is

almost finished, and what we have been years learning, they will haveto learn in a few months. They will also have much to unlearn and

much to learn again. Those who would not receive the mark of the

beast and his image when the decree goes forth, must have decision

now to say, Nay, we will not regard the institution of the beast.{Early

"Time is almost finished. Do you reflect the lovely image of Jesus as

you should?" Then I was pointed to the earth and saw that there

would have to be a getting ready among those who have of lateembraced the third angel's message. Said the angel, "Get ready, get

ready, get ready. Ye will have to die a greater death to the world than

ye have ever yet died." I saw that there was a great work to do for

In the near future we shall see these words fulfilled as the

Protestant churches unite with the world and with the papal

power against commandment keepers. The same spirit

which actuated papists in ages past will lead Protestants topursue a similar course toward those who will maintain

their loyalty to God. {5T 449.2} Church and state are now

making preparations for the future conflict. Protestants are

working in disguise to bring Sunday to the front, as did theRomanists. Throughout the land the papacy is piling up her

lofty and massive structures, in the secret recesses of which

her former persecutions are to be repeated. And the way is

preparing for the manifestation, on a grand scale, of thoselying wonders by which, if it were possible, Satan would

deceive even the elect. {5T 449.3}

The Roman Church now presents a fair front to the world,

covering with apologies her record of horrible cruelties. She

has clothed herself in Christlike garments; but she is

unchanged. Every principle of the papacy that existed in pastages exists today. The doctrines devised in the darkest ages

are still held. Let none deceive themselves. The papacy that

Protestants are now so ready to honor is the same that

ruled the world in the days of the Reformation, when menof God stood up, at the peril of their lives, to expose her

iniquity. She possesses the same pride and arrogant

assumption that lorded it over kings and princes, and

claimed the prerogatives of God. Her spirit is no less crueland despotic now than when she crushed out human liberty

and slew the saints of the Most High. {GC 571.1}

Many will be imprisoned, many will flee for their lives from

cities and towns, and many will be martyrs for Christ's sake in

standing in defense of the truth. There is a prospect before

us of a continued struggle, at the risk of imprisonment, lossof property and even of life itself, to defend the law of God.

Men will be required to render obedience to human edicts

in violation of the divine law. Those who are true to God will

be menaced, denounced, proscribed. They will be "betrayedboth by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends,"

even unto death. We are not to have the courage and

fortitude of martyrs of old until brought into the position

they were in. . . . Should there be a return of persecutionthere would be grace given to arouse every energy of the

soul to show a true heroism. The disciples were not endowed

with the courage and fortitude of the martyrs until such

grace was needed. {LDE p.150}

against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and

famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there

be from heaven. But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you,

and persecute [you], delivering [you] up to the synagogues, and intoprisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. And

it shall turn to you for a testimony. Settle [it] therefore in your hearts,

not to meditate before what ye shall answer: For I will give you a

mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able togainsay nor resist. Luke 21:10-15.

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye

shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many

be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And

because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he

that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this

gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness

unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Matt 24:9-14

Many will be seen hurrying hither and thither, constrained

by the Spirit of God to bring the light to others. The truth, the

Word of God, is as a fire in their bones, filling them with a

burning desire to enlighten those who sit in darkness. Many,even among the uneducated, now proclaim the words of the

Lord. Children are impelled by the Spirit to go forth and

declare the message from heaven. The Spirit is poured out

upon all who will yield to its promptings, and, casting off allman's machinery, his binding rules and cautious methods,

they will declare the truth with the might of the Spirit's

power. Multitudes will receive the faith and join the armies

of the Lord.--Review and Herald, July 23, 1895. {Ev 700.1}The laborers will be qualified rather by the unction of His

Spirit than by the training of literary institutions. Men of faith

and prayer will be constrained to go forth with holy zeal,

declaring the words which God gives them.--GC 606 (1911).
