the gift of Love: a bride and grooM’s guide to preparing the Wedding Liturgy

First and foremost, the Church warmly welcomes the engaged couple and rejoices in the love which they share. As we begin to prepare them for Marriage and the wedding liturgy, we find that few are familiar with liturgical terms and rituals. This book will be a helpful resource for the engaged couple, as well as parish staffs.

Written in very conversational language, The Gift of Love, provides basic liturgical catechesis on each of the three rites, lists of readings, guides for preparing a worship aid, principles for choosing music, frequently-asked questions and their answers, and helpful tear-out preparation sheets.

presiding at the Wedding Liturgy: a guide for deaconsThe Deacon is often called upon to preside at The Order of Celebrating Matrimony without Mass or The Order of Celebrating Matrimony between a Catholic and a Catechumen or a Non-Christian. This book provides excellent guidance on the elements of the rites and wonderful advice on “best practices” for their proper celebration. It’s loaded with rich resources that will assist your conversations with the bride and groom, too, including helpful preparation sheets.

understanding the sacraMents of vocation: a rite based approach

Randy Stice

The liturgy is an encounter between God and his children in Christ and the Holy Spirit. This resource explores two key topics in catechesis on the Sacraments of Vocation: (1) The liturgy is first and foremost about a relationship between God and his people. (2) The liturgy is a language, and the more one masters its “vocabulary” and “grammar”, the more one can enter into the spiritual reality and power it makes present. Randy

Stice presents a catechesis or mystagogy on the sacraments of vocation based on the methodology presented in the encyclical Sacramentum Caritatis. In accessible language, the foundations of the rites of Orders and Matrimony in the Old Testament is examined. The sacrament is explained through the meaning of the signs of the rites. The book is rite-based: It explains the meaning of the words, actions and signs of the rites. The primary sources for this catechesis are: the rites of Holy Orders and Matrimony themselves; the general introduction to those sacraments; the biblical readings for each sacrament; the Catechism of the Catholic Church; Papal and curial documents (encyclicals, instructions, etc.); documents by the USCCB; and the writings of the Church Fathers.

the Ministry of the asseMbLyJoyce Ann Zimmerman, CPPS

Many who come to Sunday Mass or other liturgical celebrations are not one of the formal ministers (presider, greeters, acolytes, lectors, etc.). This book is about helping everyone at liturgy understand that being there and serving one another so that liturgy is fruitful for all is a ministry. This is what we may call the ministry of the assembly. In some respects the ministry of the assembly is the most important ministry of all because it makes visible the church, the Body of Christ, by its very gathering together as one Body. As liturgical assembly, it makes present the

celebration of the paschal mystery and Christ's ongoing mystery of salvation. Being a liturgical assembly is a privilege of our baptismal identity and the first way we live it out. The Ministry of the Assembly is a new book in the Collegeville Ministry series. Its five chapters address the being of the liturgical assembly, what the assembly does during liturgy, why being a liturgical assembly is so important, the configuration of the liturgical assembly in its own place, and a spirituality of the liturgical assembly.

the deacon’s Ministry of the LiturgyFrederick BauerschmidtThe Deacon's Ministry of the Liturgy offers a concise and accessible introduction to the liturgical aspects of the ministry of the diaconate. The book covers not only the practical side of liturgical ministry—what the deacon does in various liturgical celebrations—but also roots of that ministry in Scripture and tradition, as well as reflecting on the role of the liturgy in the spiritual life of the deacon.

The Council produced sixteen documents that articulated significant issues facing the Church and repositioned Catholic theology in light of the modern world. Most notably, the first document of the Council, Sacrosanctum Concilium, emphasized the liturgy as the source and summit of Christian life. As such, the liturgy is intimately connected to all facets of Church theology and practice.

The Joy of Love (Amoris Laetitia) brings together the results of the two Synods on the Family convoked by Pope Francis in 2014 and 2015. Striking for its breadth and detail—and firmly grounded in the challenges of family experiences—the Joy of Love affirms the rich and complex reality of family life with pastoral care, speaking the language of experience and hope. Pope Francis reaches out to married couples, parents, and children in a spirit of accompaniment, asking everyone to read slowly, paying special attention to what applies most to our different needs. The Joy of Love is truly remarkable for its practical and concrete suggestions. It also challenges us to be understanding in the face of complex and painful situations.

gift of Joy: the bLessing of the chiLd in the WoMb Archbishop Kurtz/Msgr. Bransfield

The presence of new life in the womb of the mother brings unique joy and hope to the center of our families, our Church and our world. It is the ultimate gift. At this very same moment when God created your child, He also created you as a mother and as a father.

This is an incredible new beginning as the gift of life is already unfolding and Christ rejoices with you in the moment.

Your child has, along with God, not only given you a gift … but an invitation as well -- an invitation to grow in your faith, an invitation to accept the support of your parish community and an invitation to more fully embrace your relationship with Christ.

Gift of Joy is part of that invitation -- a tiny treasure to help you celebrate and understand your unique role as a parent and recipient of God's gift of life. It also introduces you to the experience of the blessing of the Church through The Rite for the Blessing of a Child in the Womb.

rite of penance (rituaL edition)The Rite of Penance was revised in accord with the second edition of the Lectionary for Mass and the emendations required by the 1983 Code of Canon Law. My sacrifice and yours: our participation in the eucharistPaul Turner

The Mass is the prayer of the Church. It’s not just the prayer of the priest -- it is our prayer -- the prayer of the baptized people of God. As a baptized people, we share in the priestly ministry of Christ! As priestly ministers of Christ, we all share in his sacrifice and unite our sufferings and burdens with his every time we gather to offer prayer, praise, and thanksgiving to him at Mass. In this short booklet, Paul Turner unpacks the meaning of the sacrifice of the Mass. In pastoral language, he explores more deeply how our participation in the Mass unites us to Christ. Through this guided reflection, we will become aware of the sacrifice Christ made for us, how we participate in this sacrifice each time we gather and participate in the Eucharistic mystery, and how we give back as his disciples. Each section in this booklet is concluded with questions for discussion and reflection questions which may be used in small or large group settings or for personal reflection.

preaching the Mystery of faith: the sunday hoMiLy (bishops’ stateMent)

Preaching is evangelizing, making the Word come alive for the People of God. This task is central to the New Evangelization and the Church's renewal.

The bishops' statement Preaching the Mystery of Faith: The Sunday Homily, is directed toward priests, deacons, and seminary educators who prepare them to preach the Sunday homily in these times of confusion and relativism. The statement gives special attention to the biblical and theological foundations for effective liturgical preaching and considers the proper connection between the Sunday homily and the Church's liturgy and catechesis. It emphasizes the particular pastoral needs of our time that have prompted the call for a renewed evangelization.

Liturgy in a cuLturaLLy diverse coMMunity: a guideMark Francis, CSV

In 1998, FDLC commissioned Rev. Mark R. Francis, C.S.V., to write a guideline for preparing multicultural liturgies. Father Francis and Brother Rufino Zaragoza, O.F.M., revisit the topic in this bilingual English-Spanish book. They outline the principles inherent in truly multicultural liturgies to assist liturgists, music directors, and others who prepare worship to promote the full participation of everyone in a culturally diverse assembly. To achieve this goal, they present, in detail, the varied ways in which the liturgy communicates through words, gesture, movement, art, and environment.
