Liturgy of the Word 32nd Sunday in
Ordinary Time
First Reading 1 Kgs 17:10-16 A reading from the first book of the Kings Elijah the Prophet went off to Sidon. And when he reached the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks; addressing her he said, ‘Please bring a little water in a vessel for me to drink.’ She was setting off to bring it when he called after her. ‘Please’ he said, ‘bring me a scrap of bread in your hand.’ ‘As the Lord your God lives’, she replied, ‘I have no baked bread, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jug; I am just gathering a stick or two to go and prepare this for myself and my son to eat, and then we shall die.’ ButElijah said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, go and do as you have said; but first make a little scone of it for me and bring it to me, and then make some for yourself and for your son. For thus the Lord speaks, the God of Israel: “Jar of meal shall not be spent, jug of oil shall not be emptied, before the day when the Lord sends rain on the face of the earth.”’ The woman went and did as Elijah told her and they ate the food, she, himself and her son. The jar of meal was not spent nor the jug of oil emp-tied, just as the Lord had foretold through Elijah. The Word of the Lord Responsorial Psalm (R.) Praise the Lord, my soul! 1. It is the Lord who keeps faith forever who is just to those who are oppressed. It is he who gives bread to the hungry, the Lord who sets prisoners free. (R.) 2. It is the Lord who gives sight to the blind, who raises up those who are bowed down. It is the Lord who loves the just, the Lord who protects the stranger. (R.) 3. The Lord upholds the widow and orphan but thwarts the path of the wicked. The Lord will reign for ever, Zion’s God, from age to age. (R.)
Second Reading Heb 9:24-28 A reading from the letter to the Hebrews It is not as though Christ had entered a man-made sanctuary which was only modelled on the real one; but it was heaven itself, so that he could appear in the actual presence of God on our be-half. And he does not have to offer himself again and again, like the high priest going into the sanctuary year after year with the blood that is not his own, or else he would have had to suffer over and over again since the world began. In-stead of that, he has made his appearance once and for all, now at the end of the last age, to do away with sin by sacrificing himself. Since men only die once, and after that comes judgement, so Christ, too, offers himself only once to take the faults of many on himself, and when he appears a second time, it will not be to deal with sin but to reward with salvation those who are waiting for him. The Word of the Lord Gospel Acclamation Mt 5:3 Alleluia, alleluia! Happy the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Alleluia! GospelMk 12:38-44 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark In his teaching Jesus said, ‘Beware of the scribes who like to walk about in long robes, to be greet-ed obsequiously in the market squares, to take the front seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets; these are the men who swallow the property of widows, while making a show of lengthy prayers. The more severe will be the sentence they receive.’ He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in a great deal. A poor wid-ow came and put in two small coins, the equiva-lent of a penny. Then he called to his disciples and said to them, ‘I tell you solemnly, this poor widow has put more in than all who have contrib-uted to the treasury; for they have all put in mon-ey they had over, but she from the little she had has put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on.’ The Gospel of the Lord

1 | Welcome to Regina Coeli Catholic Church
Dear friends,
I am happy to announce the appointment by Archbishop
Fisher of Fr Josh Miechels as Assistant Priest of Regina Coeli
Parish effective from the 27th November. We look forward to
welcoming Fr Josh to his first appointment as a priest.
The appointment of Fr Josh to our parish means we have
to say goodbye to Fr Peter Kwak who has been Assistant Priest
since 2013. Since Easter this year Fr Peter has been chaplain at
the University of New South Wales and has continued to be with
us on the weekend for Masses and to minister to the Youth
Group. Fr Peter will preside at his last Mass at 8.30am on
Sunday 15 November followed by a morning tea in the
Community Centre.
Please keep in your prayers the children from our parish
who will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first
time on Wednesday 11 November. I wish to thank the
Reconciliation Team, Elizabeth Gooley, Gerard WooLing, Deacon
Frank Zacka and Daniella Toranto, for their assistance in
delivering the Reconciliation preparation program.
During the week Gerard and myself visited Penshurst
Marist College where the parish provided lunch for the 26
students from Regina Coeli. This was a simple way of
connecting with our young people, to encourage them and to
invite them to such initiatives as the Youth Group. With Fr Josh
joining the team soon I will extend the initiative to the other
feeder schools. I am very grateful to the Principal for his
openness to this initiative.
~ Have a happy week, Fr Paul

Catechist News
Father Paul and the Regina Coeli Catechists extend an
invitation to all the Families of the children who have
attended Catholic Scripture this year to celebrate a
joyous year of faith and to prepare for Christmas on
Sunday 6th December.
We invite you to join us at the 10:00am Mass which
will be the 2nd Sunday of Advent, a time of joy and
expectation as we await the birth of Jesus. After Mass
we will have refreshments in the Parish Hall and an
opportunity to introduce ourselves to you all.
It has been a very great privilege to have shared our
faith with your beautiful children this year and we
look forward to meeting you all personally.

chists at both schools. All lesson material is provid-
ed. If you are interested in becoming a catechist,
please speak to Fr. Paul or contact the Parish office on

Reflecting on Purgatory
The Church’s teaching on Purgatory should be a source of encouragement. “Purgatory is the state of those who die in God’s friendship, assured of their eternal salvation, but who still have need of purification to enter into the glory of God and happiness of heaven.” (see Catechism of the Catholic Church 1030-31; 1054) As the name itself indicates, the Church’s belief is in a blessed transformation and purification that makes those who have died ready to enter finally into God’s eternal friendship, to share all things in communion with God. Given our sin and human frailty, few of us die ready for this. This mysterious transition involves the pain of the final roots of our sin and selfishness being removed, so as to experience communion with God in eter-nal happiness.
Proposal for Data Projection
A number of people have contacted me re-
garding the lack of data projection in our
church. The school has ask for this several
times. Having the capacity for data projection
would have benefits such as:
less reliance on hymn books which
means the choir can update their hymns
on a regular basis
school liturgies
significant numbers of family members
at funeral Masses request to have a slide
presentation
wedding couples often ask for a data
projector
singing would improve because wor-
shipers would be looking up and not
down in a book
better use of evangelisation resources
such as Archbishops Lenten message,
Caritas etc.
After doing some research and taking profes-
sional advise the best and most cost effective
option for our church would a series of large
monitors (72’). The funding for this project
would come from several generous benefac-
tors and the school. I would welcome your
feedback on this matter outlining your
thoughts and why. Please offer your feedback
in a charitable way. Fr Paul
Charitable Works Fund Appeal
Please note that the Charitable Works Fund Appeal will be taken up this weekend. Envelopes are available on Church pews and at all doors.
Kindly place your envelopes onto any of the collection plates being taken up during Mass or drop them into the office during the week.
We sincerely appreciate the generosity of our dedicated parishioners.
