Six million people, for the sole fact of being members of the Jewish people, fell victim to the most inhuman barbarity, perpetuated in the name of an ideology that sought to substitute God with man. On October 16, 1943, over a thousand men, women and children from the Jewish community of Rome were deported to Auschwitz. Today I would like to remember them in a very sincere way: their suffering, their anguish, their tears, must never be forgotten. The past must serve as a lesson for us in the present and in the future. The Holocaust teaches us to always maintain the highest level of vigilance, in order to be able to intervene immediately in defense of human dignity and peace. How might I simplify what I need so I have more to serve others?

When can I make quiet time for God? Though a simple life might not seem, at first glance, an abundant harvest, simplicity is one of the great fruits of stewardship. St. Clare, whose feast we celebrated Aug. 11, was inspired by St. Francis of Assisi. Clare left her family and the comforts of home to embrace God and extreme poverty. She and the community she founded went barefoot. They slept on the ground. They ate no meat. They spoke only when necessity or charity obliged them. We don’t usually adopt such extreme practices, but we might remember that sacrifice offers reward. Oftentimes, we focus on what we do not have. We concentrate on what we covet and lose sight of the abundance all around us. Most of us could do with less: fewer possessions, perhaps; less food, maybe; possibly even less talking. We don’t have to tread on bare soles to walk in holiness. We can stand in solidarity with the poor and enrich our own lives through mindful simplicity.

The tabernacle is the place of reservation of the Eucharist for the sick, and in more recent times, private devotion. This tabernacle employs the very ancient tabernacle design of a dove. It is reminiscent of God’s creative spirit, hovering over creation, breathing into us and sustaining us in life.

Youth Update Although this year's mission trip was not in some faraway place we still had fun and a lot of success. This year our mission trip was right here in Boise. We helped out a young lady and her kids whose husband is deployed as a marine in the South China Sea. We ended up taking down two very large trees one was a ponderosa pine and the other was a scott pine. We also removed some huge bushes, painted three sides of the house and a patio, and roofed the patio. It was a lot of hard work but as usual we banned together and got the work done praise be to God. This was a multiple parish mission trip we had kids from Risen Christ, Our Lady of the Rosary, and St. Johns.

God is good all the time.

RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

Journey the Catholic Way The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a Christian faith journey through which new members are welcomed into the Catholic Church. RCIA is a lived experience for adults who are not yet Catholic, but would like to learn more about the Church, with the possibility of becoming Catholic. These informal sessions provide learning by sharing the faith with others who are on the same journey and with fully initiated members of the Church. Perhaps you are not yet baptized, or baptized in another faith. The upcoming sessions are also for adults who have not been Confirmed or have not received First Communion. The RCIA process begins in September and continues until spring. This commitment is an opportunity to learn with others, to share, and to grow in faith. Find what you may be missing.

Join us at Risen Christ for an information session on Monday, Sept. 11 at 7:00PM.

To sign up now, contact the parish office at 208-362-6584.

If you or someone you know would like more information about RCIA, contact Ludee Vermaas: [email protected], or 208-345-8279.
