“A L I V E A N D A C T I V E ”The Year of Saint Matthew

The 13TH Sunday in year02.07.17.

(Sunday Readings: of year A : Breviary: Week i)

THIS SUNDAY’S MASSScripture: Kings 4:8-11 14-16

Psalm 88

R. I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.

I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord;through all ages my mouth will proclaim your truth.Of this I am sure, that your love lasts for ever, that your truth is firmly established as the heavens.

Happy the people who acclaim such a king, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, who find their joy every day in your name, who make your justice the source of their bliss.

For it is you, O Lord, who are the glory of their strength;it is by your favour that our might is exalted:for our ruler is in the keeping of the Lord;our king in the keeping of the Holy One of Israel.

Paul to the Romans 6: 3-4, 8-11Matthew 10:37-42

Intercession : We pray to the LordResponse : Lord, hear our prayer

A husband took his young daughter to the grocery store where, in addition to the carefully prepared list of healthy items, they bought a box of sugar-rich cookies. When they arrived home and unpacked the items, his wife immediately glared at the cookies.‘It’s okay, honey,’ he said. ‘This box of cookies has one-third fewer calories than usual.’‘How come?’ she asked.‘Because we ate a third on the way home.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^A man went to see his doctor. ‘Doctor,’ he said, ‘my arm keeps talking to me.’‘Don’t be ridiculous,’ said the doctor.‘No, really it does. Listen,’So the doctor put his stethoscope to the man’s arm and heard the arm say: ‘Lend me five bucks,’‘It’s okay,’ said the doctor. ‘It’s just broke.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

After hitting six balls into a lake, a frustrated golfer hurled his clubs into the water and began to walk off the course. Then suddenly he turned around and jumped in the lake. His playing partners thought he must have had a change of heart about dumping such valuable golfing equipment but he emerged moments later without the clubs and headed off the course once more.‘Why did you jump into the lake?’ they asked. He replied: ‘I left my car keys in the bag..’

I have always liked quirky people, people who do not always conform to the noms of polite society. They bring a little laughter and mirth to deflate many a situation. History is full of people like this.

This Monday we see the Feast day of such a person, that being Thomas. People remembering him for being the man who was the doubter, “Unless I see the holes in His hands and side I refuse to believe.”

I have doubts, I question, in fact I am similar to Thomas. I look upon this great man as an aid to my spiritual growth. Most people, if not all question their faith. None of us have met or touched Jesus as did Thomas. But the Lord stands in front of us and either we do not recognize, or fail to believe it is the Lord Jesus.

His submission of faith comes when he utters the words after hearing Jesus call him and say “Thomas doubt no longer but believe”Thomas replies: “My Lord and my God.”

Thomas for me is no longer a doubter but a sign post – solid and forthright in direction. Directing me to the Risen Lord deepening my love for Him and His wounded Church.

If Mother Teresa along with Thomas can doubt I am in good company.
