    Melissa Harris joined Ian Black Real Estate as a Commercial Property Manager in August of 2011 and in Januaryof 2012 moved into leasing and sales of industrial, office and retail properties in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

    As one of IBRE's sales associates, Melissa Harris is extremely active in all aspects of the industry, working withsome of the largest landlords in the area, as well as representing local and national tenants and buyers. Focusingon sales and leasing of retail, office and flex properties across Sarasota and Manatee Counties, Melissa worksclosely with Ian black and Steve Horn on larger projects, as well as successfully building her commercial portfolioof clients.

    Prior to joining the firm, Melissa graduated from Pine View School in Sarasota and then went on to obtain herbachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Florida. She was employed as a HumanResource Manager with The Home Depot, where she worked for nine years and managed 400+ associates andmanagers.

    Melissa moved back to Sarasota from Charlotte, NC and is very happy to be back home. She enjoys spending timewith her husband and two young daughters.

    Professional BackgroundIan Black, CCIM, has been a prominent fixture in the Sarasota / Manatee County real estate market since the early1980’s. Local real estate developers respect Ian’s creativity and integrity in the real estate business as well as hiscommitment to the betterment of the community. Those qualities have earned Ian some of the most prestigiousbrokerage assignments in the area.

    He was the leasing agent for One Sarasota Tower, the glass tower that anchors North Tamiami Trail to theSarasota Bay. Ian was also selected as commercial sales and leasing broker for the chic, innovative Plaza at FivePoints located in the heart of downtown Sarasota. And most recently, Ian Black Real Estate was appointedexclusive leasing broker for The Starling Group’s office portfolio along the Interstate in Sarasota County andLakewood Ranch.

    Ian’s impressive real estate brokerage career began in 1964, when he worked with, and later co-owned, BrianMorton and Company in Northern Ireland, Ian’s homeland. Ian helped Brian Morton grow from one office in Belfastto 22 offices throughout Northern Ireland.

    In 1982, Ian and his family moved to Sarasota, where they owned, operated, and later sold a ten-unit motel onSiesta Key. His previous positions include vice president of marketing at Starling Realty, where he worked forseven years, and director of Florida brokerage services for ICORR Properties Realty Inc., where he was thecompany’s sole broker for the Sarasota / Manatee area. In 2003, Ian opened his own commercial real estatebrokerage and management office.

    Elegant, smart development must incorporate the arts, and Ian combines his consummate knowledge of the realestate market with his love of the arts in his community contributions. Ian has been instrumental in bringing art intothe Sarasota business community through his service as past President of the Sarasota Film Festival, his serviceon the Arts Task Force and the ART in BUSINESS board. Ian’s dedication to the unity of art and real estate haspersonal roots. Ian is himself an accomplished artist in both abstract painting and ceramic sculpting. Ian’spost-expressionist paintings, co-authored with Ringling School of Art graduate James Mendes, have beenexhibited at the Sonnet Gallery and at ARTarget “Hot Summer Cool Art” show in downtown Sarasota. One of thefirst forms of expression Ian learned was the ancient martial science of Tai Chi. He appeared in Tai Chi InnerWave,a nationally-syndicated television show on the PBS network and throughout Europe.

    Sales Agent/PartnerProfessional BackgroundAs one of Ian Black Real Estate’s leading sales associates and Partner in the firm, Steve Horn is extremely activein all aspects of the commercial real estate industry. Steve works with some of the largest Landlords anddevelopers in the area, as well as representing local and national tenants and buyers. In addition to leasing, Stevehas sold a number of large shopping centers and medical / traditional office properties in Southwest Florida. In2011, Steve sold MOBI in Lakewood Ranch, Florida (a 58,000+/- SF medical office building) which was one of thelargest sales in the area in recent history.

    After college, Steve joined Morgan Stanley where he worked for three years as a wealth management consultantand then joined the sustainable land development division of Bowie Urban Planners in Sarasota, where he focusedon providing development packaging services for clients all over the state of Florida.
