SIX AWESOME REASONS TO LIVE ON CAMPUS

MILLIKIN UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF RESIDENCE LIFE

We know that college is more than where you study; it’s where you live. That’s why Millikin recently invested $2 million to renovate all four first-year student residence halls (Aston, Blackburn, Dolson, and Weck). These upgrades include everything from replacing furniture and flooring to upgrading bathrooms and improving the structure of the buildings. The result is a comfortable and convenient living experience.

Aston Millikin, Aston Hall offers a select number of triple rooms on the fourth floor, where you can overlook campus from the tallest residence hall at Millikin. FIRST-YEAR HOUSING

DOLSON HALL First-Year Students

Jack C. Dolson Hall boasts four floors of suite-style living in our newest residence hall (opened in 1997) housing 200 co-ed residents. Each floor offers a large lounging area that comes equipped with a kitchen — providing a great space for socializing and programming. Dolson Hall room options include single, double, and quad rooms. You will also find a great resource in having the Office of Residence Life located on the ground floor of this residential building. Dolson Hall was named in 2007 after a prominent Decatur businessman, Jack C. Dolson, owner of Dolson Outdoor Advertising.

Located directly across the street from Shilling Hall is Weck Hall, Millikin’s quaint two-story, suite-style residence hall. Weck houses 52 residents and includes a large first-floor lounge and study room. The benefits of living in this building include an intimate sense of community and single bathrooms shared by each group of four residents. Weck Hall was named after alumni W. Meredith and F. Rosalia Weck, who were the owners and operators of Decatur’s Haines and Essick, Inc. Weck Hall was dedicated in 1994.

FIRST-YEAR LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITIES

FIRST-YEAR LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITIESLiving-Learning Communities (LLCs) are an option for students wanting to live on the same floor or in the same building as those who share a common interest, passion, or major. Students may indicate whether they would like to be a part of an LLC on the Millikin Housing Application. The Office of Residence Life reviews the applications and students are placed in a community based on preference and availability.

BIG BLUE EXPERIENCE Sponsored by the Office of Alumni and Development, this community is a great option for first-year students looking to get involved, supporting the Big Blue spirit, and becoming active leaders on the Millikin campus.

BUSINESS Supported by the Tabor School of Business, the Business LLC offers intentional programming and networking opportunities for its residents.

COMMITMENT TO THE ARTS Supported by the College of Fine Arts, this community is focused on providing an environment conducive to the busy fine arts student, while also encouraging creativity and individuality.

COMMITMENT TO THE SCIENCES A great community for any student interested in the fields of Biology, Botany, Math, Chemistry, or Physics. Historically, this LLC is a great example of Millikin’s devotion to performance learning.

HONORS An option for students accepted into the MU Honors Program, the Honors LLC fosters a home-like support system for students with similar academic rigor. The community naturally provides a structure for group classwork and discussion.

INTERNATIONAL A globally focused LLC designed to allow American and International students to create a unique community together. Residents can expect programming on global awareness, diversity, and culture, as well as strong support from the Center for International Education.

LONG-VANDERBURG (LV) First-year students accepted into the LV Scholars Program will automatically be reserved space in this engaging and active community. The LV Program recognizes high scholastic achievement among those students who have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, leadership, and community service.

NURSING Students living in the Nursing LLC have a strong support network built into their environment through specialized faculty interaction and programming.
