On behalf of our school community, I would like to welcome Monica Chao who was appointed to Liverpool Public School at the beginning of this term. Miss Chao will be replacing Miss Bosch as the teacher of 1S. Miss Bosch will continue to work with us at Liverpool Public School in a specialist support teacher role and I thank her for her setting 1S up for a successful year. Next week students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be sitting NAPLAN. These are national assessments which are used to help identify strengths and areas for development. The Annual Report is provided to the school community as an account of the school’s operations and achievements throughout the year. It is the result of rigorous school self-assessment practices undertaken collaboratively with staff, parent/caregivers and student leaders. It is available on our school website, or by clicking on the following link www.liverpool- p.schools.nsw.edu.au/our-school/annual-school-report At the end of last term, all families received an invoice for their 2017 school contribution fee. The fee, whilst voluntary, is used to supplement the school's learning resources. This includes the Mathletics and Reading Eggs online programs which are accessible from school and home. If you were to pay for these programs individually, they would cost over $100 per child. Please pay your voluntary contribution as soon as possible. Part-payments can also be made if it is difficult financially to pay the full amount. Finally, thank you to all our parents and carers who attended our learning conferences at the end of last term. The more we work together, the better we can be at meeting each student’s learning needs. As students remind me with their learning about The Leader in Me: we need to seek first to understand and then synergise! Yours sincerely, Mr Ian Tapuska Principal M E D I A S P L A S H

Dear Muslim Parents and Caregivers, Did you know that all children in NSW Public Schools are entitled to a session of religious education every week? However, unfortunately not all Muslim children in Liverpool Public School are receiving scripture due to a shortage of Muslim scripture teachers. These children are currently missing out on this invaluable opportunity to learn about the beauty of their faith. Are you interested in filling this position? Scripture lessons are held on once a week every Friday from 9:05am to 10:45am. All information and materials are provided by the Islamic Special Religious Education (ISRE) body of the Islamic Council of NSW. It’s easier than you think and is also extremely rewarding!!

In just ½ hour per week, YOU can make a big difference to the Betterment of our children. Show our children how important Islam is to you and how vital it is for the development of our community. Your time and help will be greatly appreciated and immensely rewarding! Please feel free to contact us on 9708 0880 or 0415 252 555 (Mon-Thu 9:00am-2:30pm), or email [email protected] for further details or interest.

ROAD SAFETY An increasing number of students, and unfortunately their parents and carers, are not crossing the road safely before or after school. Whilst parking and congestion is an issue around our school, how we model road safety is important to ensure children learn how to cross roads safely. Please use the school zone crossing and follow all directions from the school crossing supervisor. When collecting students, do not double park or stop in the middle of the road. Asking children to run from the footpath to a car stopped in the middle of the road is dangerous.

The following link has materials to support road safety www.kidsandtraffic.mq.edu.au/

Here are some suggestions to improve your child's safety:

• Children up to eight years old should hold an adult's hand on the footpath, in the car park or when crossing the road.

• Children up to 10 should be supervised around traffic and should hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.

• When walking with your children, talk to them about about safe crossing procedures and traffic safety regulations

• Set a good example. Parents and carers are the best road safety teachers. • Teach your children to be aware of the traffic environment: distractions such as wearing headphones or

playing with friends on the way to or from school can make them more vulnerable to danger. • Make sure your driving and parking are not endangering your own or others' children. Obey all parking signs

and speed limits, and always be on the lookout for the unexpected. Many traffic safety issues around schools arise from the poor driving and parking behaviour of parents.

• Never call your child across the road.

PLC Welcome back to a new school term. This week at Liverpool Public School, students have been working on Habit 6- Synergise. This means that we get along with other people, even those who are different. We seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because we know that by teaming up, we can create better solutions. There are strategies that you can use towards your children. For example: Hints for home: Taking good ideas and making them better by working together Looking for a third alternative Use words like “better idea than we could come up with alone”

Using this type of language when your child is upset or having a bad day can be beneficial and make them feel as though they are being heard.
