The Point of the Lesson:

Each child will learn that one of the most important things in their life is to surrender to God’s plan for their life. They will learn that trusting God is a daily occurrence, not just a one-time event. When asked the question, “What does Living on the Edge mean to you?” each child will be able to say, “Living on the Edge means I surrender to God.”

The Power of God’s Word:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 NIV

The Practice of Each Child:

This week each child will write a letter or draw a picture of what it means to surrender to God and then share their masterpiece with one other person.

Hey everyone, welcome to CBC We are so glad you are here with us today. We are going to have a great time together worshipping God and getting to know Him better. We are on our second week of Living on the Edge. Last week we talked about love and how important it is to love God and to love others. Object Lesson:

White flag or piece of fabric

Hold up the white flag or fabric. Say, “Waiving a white flag is a symbol of surrendering, also known as giving up. This is usually seen as a bad thing because the heroes in our stories never give up and always find a way to do things on their own. There are certain times, however, when waving the white flag is the best choice you could make. This is especially true when it comes to trying to live our lives on our own without letting God be our guide. God has a plan for each of us, and when we surrender to His plan, we experience all of the joy and happiness that God wants us to have. Surrendering can be very hard to do, but today we are going to hear a story in the Bible where a man chose to completely surrender to God’s plan, and learn about the really cool things that came from that.”

To follow God, we need to learn to give up or surrender our life to follow Him. Today we are going to learn about Abraham and how God asked him to surrender something very special.

Lesson in a Word:

Surrender

Memory Verse:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 NIV

What Should I See?

The Bible says that God tested Abraham. For this test, God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, and sacrifice him as a burnt offering.” When Abraham had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. When Abraham and his son Isaac arrived at the place for the sacrifice, Isaac said, “The fire and wood are here, but

where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham told his son that God would provide the lamb for the offering. Abraham built an altar, arranged the wood and then tied up his son. Abraham took out a knife but an angel shouted out to Abraham and told him to stop and to not do anything to Isaac. God provided a ram for them to sacrifice so Abraham named the place “The Lord will provide.” (Story found in Genesis 22)

What’s the Key?

The key to unlock this lesson is our word for today, SURRENDER! God gave Abraham a promise about his son becoming a great nation of people. Abraham trusted God so much he knew that nothing would happen to his son Isaac because of that promise Abraham had faith. Abraham had to trust God. Abraham had to surrender his life to God daily. When we surrender to God, we are telling God that we know He always has our best in mind. Having a strong faith in God is really Living on the Edge, and when I Live on the Edge, it means “I Surrender to God Daily.”

What’s That to Me?

What does God really want from me?

God really wants me to surrender to Him daily. What does that mean? Surrender means to give up your way of doing things for God’s way of doing things. It means trusting God that He always has our best in mind. Even if life gets difficult, God is still in control and He has our best in mind. We need to have faith in order to please God. Check out Hebrews 11:6.

And without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6a NIV

Just like Abraham surrendered to God each day, we must surrender to God each day. That’s what God really wants from me.

How Should I Be?

It can be hard to understand what surrendering to God daily really means. This week, write a letter or draw a picture of what you think it means to surrender to God, then share your masterpiece with one other person.
