LENT IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER... The parish will be offered the opportunity to participate in a program during lent called "The Journey/El Camino". It is designed to help Catholics today deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ - a simple and direct way to encounter Jesus in our lives. Everyone is talking about encountering Jesus, especially Pope Francis. And you can get in on the action by being a participant in "The Journey/El Camino". This is a 6 week process that emphasizes personal experience and prayers. Small groups of people gather weekly to share their experiences of Jesus with one another, reflect and grow together in their faith. The Journey program puts us in contact with those who knew and encountered Jesus - by readings and watching brief videos of those who first encountered Christ - and in sharing about it, their experiences become real in our own day...in our per-sonal lives...in our relationship with God and others. You can check it out at http://www.pemdc.org/programs/thejourney/ or watch for more info in the bulletin. We will have registration forms soon for you to sign up. This is offered in both English and Spanish.

What is Eucharistic Adoration? Understood simply, Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honouring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves "the contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly present before us". Adoration ceremonies traditionally include Scripture read-ings, hymns, prayers and time for silent adoration. During Eucharistic Adoration, we "watch and wait", we remain "silent" in His Presence and open ourselves to His Graces which flow from the Eucharist .. . By worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, we become what God wants us to be! Like a magnet, The Lord draws us to Himself and gen-tly transforms us. In its fullest essence ... Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!"

DID YOU KNOW???: In 1997, Pope John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men who chose to live a consecrat-ed life. The Presentation of the Lord ~ February 2 ~ also known as Candlemas Day - is when candles are blessed in the church symbolizing Christ who is the "light of the world." So too, those who live in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all people. The celebration of World Day for Consecrat-ed Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated people for the whole Church. February 2, 2017 is celebrated in parishes on February 4/5. For those conse-crated to God by vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, we pray that they may seek to live their baptismal promises more intensely, have grace to persevere in their commitment to the Lord and serve with open hearts and willing spirits.

OLPH Parishioners—by now you should have received your 2016 Tax Statements—picked up in person, in the mail or in e-mail. If you have not received yours and want it, please call or e-mail the rectory office. 541-942-3420 leave message for Joan, or e-mail [email protected]

As the year 2016 came to a close there were many people the Carl Kebelbeck Knight’s of Columbus Council #3154 wish to thank. There are so many that if we forget a name or a group please under-stand that you are in our prayers. The Council’s foray into the Com-munity Breakfast on the Second Sunday was a fantastic success! We averaged nearly 80 breakfasts served each month, in the 11 months that we were serving, which totals to roughly 880 for the year. We had our regular community customers each month, but also many Parish patrons also! Thank You. The breakfast couldn’t be served without the help of obviously the brothers of the Council, but also with the help of Ann Carsten, the assistance of Betty Krumlauf and her fantastic team of Youth Group volunteers and of course Joan Goossens who put blurbs in the bulletin for us. Serving so many gets you a deeper appreciation of the friends that we have made, and it allows them to help us donate to worthy causes around Cottage Grove. We garnered over $2000 from the monthly breakfasts. THANK YOU ALL!

We’re Back!!!!!!!!! The Carl Kebelbeck Knight’s of Columbus Council #3154, wishes to invite you to our annual St. Paddy’s Day corn beef and cabbage din-ner which will be held on Sunday 12 March 2017. The bar will be open at 3:30 with meal serving started at 4PM. Tickets will be sold at each Mass starting in February , ask a Knight, or at the door of the event. Prices are $5.00 for one child (6-17), one adult $10.00, and a family $25.00 Parents and kids (ages 6-17). There will be many ex-citing Raffle prizes given away and remember you are helping to donate to worthy causes in the community.

¿Preguntas? Llame a Lise Colgan – 541-767-3639

WHAT IS MEDITATION? ... Meditation is the Chr istian prac-tice of prayer dating back to the early church. As the Catechism states: "Meditation is above all a quest. The mind seeks to under-stand the why and how of the Christian life, in order to adhere and respond to what the Lord is asking. "By meditating on the Gospels, holy icons, liturgical texts, spiritual writings or "the great book of creation," we come to make our own that which is God's. To the ex-tent that we are humble and faithful, we discover in meditation - the movements that stir the hearts and we are able to discern them. It is a question of acting truthfully in order to come into the light. Lord, what do you want me to do?" (CCC 2705 - 2706) Meditation is an essential form of Christian prayer, especially for those who are seeking to answer the vocational question, "Lord, what do you want me to do?"
