Acts 4:32-35 The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed for his own use anything that he had, as everything they owned was held in common. The apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power, and they were all given great respect. None of their members was ever in want, as all those who owned land or houses would sell them, and bring the money from them, to present it to the apostles; it was then distributed to any members who might be in need. Psalm 117:2-4. 15-18. 22-24 R Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting. Let the sons of Israel say: 'His love has no end.' Let the sons of Aaron say: 'His love has no end.' Let those who fear the Lord say: 'His love has no end.' R. The Lord's right hand has triumphed; his right hand raised me up. I shall not die, I shall live and recount his deeds. I was punished, I was punished by the Lord, but not doomed to die. R. The stone which the builders rejected has become the corner stone, This is the work of the Lord, a marvel in our eyes. This day was made by the Lord; we rejoice and are glad. R. 1 John 5:1-6 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ has been begotten by God; and whoever loves the Father that begot him loves the child whom he begets. We can be sure that we love God's children if we love God himself and do what he has commanded us; this is what loving God is—keeping his commandments; and his commandments are not difficult, because anyone who has been begotten by God has already overcome the world; this is the victory over the world—our faith. Who can overcome the world? Only the man who believes that Jesus is the Son of God; Jesus Christ who came by water and blood, not with water only, but with water and blood; with the Spirit as another witness— since the Spirit is the truth. Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me; happy are those who have not seen me, but still believe! Alleluia! John 20:19-31 In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be with you,' and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you 'As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.' After saying this he breathed on them and said: 'Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained.' Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. When the disciples said, 'We have seen the Lord,' he answered, 'Unless I see the holes they made, and unless I can put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe.' Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. 'Peace be with you,' he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Doubt no longer but believe.' Thomas replied, 'My Lord and my God!' Jesus said to him: 'You believe because you can see me. Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.' There were many other signs that Jesus worked and the disciples saw, but they are not recorded in this book. These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing this you may have life through his name. Living Word The “I lied on my Weight Watchers list. My thanks to all those who helped organise or participated in the Easter Ceremonies throughout the district. A number of people put in a great effort to make sure that our churches and ceremonies are organised. Thanks to them. Of all the ceremonies, I was particularly struck by the Holy Thursday procession to the Altar of Repose that we had established in Mercy Hall. Mercy Hall itself was decorated beautifully and the time of prayer there, before the Lord in the Sacrament, was very meditative. Thanks to those who gave positive feedback about the Ingham ceremonies. A word of thanks does in fact go a long way. You may have seen the advertisement in the paper during the week that registrations for the Lourdes Centenary close in three weeks time. Now that Easter has passed, it is a good time to think about participating in the celebrations, which also celebrate 100 years of Catholic Education in our district. There is the large advertisement on page three of this bulletin and registration forms at the doors of our churches. We will beginning an RCIA group soon for a couple of people who are interested in becoming Catholic. There will be an enquiry night in a week’s time in Mercy Hall, as per the notice inside. If you know someone who may be interested in becoming a Catholic, please invite them to come along to this brief information session. If you would like to learn more about the faith, and would like to be a fellow traveller, please contact the parish office. About two months ago, I advertised the establishment of a new parish group to look at issues related to Social Justice. This group, to meet about half a dozen times per year, will look at how we as a parish are kept informed about matters of social justice and can respond to justice issues on a local, national, and international level. After running this advertisement, I actually thought that I had had no takers, because the message never got passed on to me. IN fact, a few people put their hands up. In the next couple of weeks, I will call an introductory meeting. If you are interested in being part of parish group committed to the church’s justice teachings, please contact the office. The parish will again, this year, be entering a team in Relay For Life. The team, last year, managed to raise considerable funds as well as have enormous fun. This is a good way for our parish community, as a community, to be involved in a worthwhile activity that is not branded as church. Please consider joining the team or supporting the cause. School holidays continue, so please say a prayer for all those who are travelling at this time. Welcome to all visitors and new parishioners. Please make yourself known to us. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,

rest in peace. Amen.

Compassion is a word that comes from the heart – it is our ‘feeling with’ another, to be drawn out of ourselves. It is a tender generosity of spirit that arises from our being loved by God. It confers a gracious blessing both on the recipient, and on the one responding. Both in his actions and his words, Pope Francis takes every opportunity to stress the love, mercy and compassion which God has for us – and the compassion that is planted in us because of our own experience of God’s love.

The story in today’s Gospel is a

striking witness to the compassion of Jesus. A man suffering from leprosy summons up the courage to throw himself at the feet of Jesus. Looking into the face of Jesus, he is emboldened to say: ‘If you want to, you can cure me.’ It is an act of faith. Moved by deep compassion, Jesus reaches out his hand, touches the sick man and utters the penetrating words, ‘Of course, I want to. Be cured!’

Project Compassion offers us a way to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. It is our opportunity to be drawn out

of our comfort and complacency, to look with the heart and to respond with compassion in a practical way for our brothers and sisters who are in need, both in Australia and in distant lands.

The theme for Project Compassion 2015 is ‘Food for Life’. It focuses on finding ways to establish secure access to food for people who live in poverty. Pope Francis calls us to act, ‘It is a well-known fact that current levels of production are sufficient, yet millions of people are still suffering and dying of starvation.

Those who have not seen

Jesus says to Thomas, ‘You believe because you can see me. Happy are those who have not seen and yet

believe.’ That’s us! Jesus’ words in the gospel are meant for people like us living today. We are not in the

position of Thomas and the other disciples who were able to see the risen Lord face to face and so convince themselves of his rising. The gospel recognises that to

believe in the resurrection without that physical, personal encounter with Jesus is to be celebrated even more. Happy are we – blessed are we – who have not

seen and yet still believe!
