Drop Off and Pick Up

Thank you to all families for supporting our school in following the guidelines for visitors on school site. Following these guidelines assists in keeping our community safe.

All students, including Kindergarten will be dismissed at the regular time of 2:55pm. Kindergarten students and their siblings will depart via the front gate, however, if notified Kindergarten may exit through the crossing gate. To ease congestion and to aid prompt departure from school for all students please do not mingle on footpaths.

We welcome Mrs. Hagger in her role as Crossing Supervisor. The Crossing Supervisor is responsible for crossing all pedestrians between 8-9 am and from 2:30-3:30 pm. Students can enter school from the crossing gate.

We are looking forward to welcoming families to our school assemblies this term.

All visitors to a school site must comply with sign-in arrangements. This includes the requirement to sign the school sign-in sheet where they acknowledge that they will comply with the COVID-19 requirements for visitors, contractors, and service providers each time they visit. Visitors must also check-in using the Service NSW QR code.

Families may sign in and enter via the gate closest to the hall from 1:50 pm.

LED Lighting Upgrade Program (LED LUP)

Llandilo Public School has been selected to be part of the LED Lighting Upgrade Program (LED LUP) commits $157.8 million to replace inefficient lights with new LED lights, in up to 1,000 public schools across NSW over a two-year period. This is expected to reduce operating costs for schools as well as deliver over 1,200 jobs in for NSW.

Schools have been selected and prioritised according to factors such as greatest impact on savings, educational outcomes and other benefits, and our school has been included in the first tranche of the program.

The benefits of LED lighting include:

1. Energy saving – reduced electricity usage and lower bills over the long term by replacing inefficient fluorescent lights with efficient LEDs.

2. Lower maintenance and repair costs when compared with fluorescent lights.

3. Improved learning outcomes in the classroom as a result of improved lighting.

The LED Lighting Upgrade Program will be planned to minimise interruption to school classes or learning. The installation will be planned outside school hours where possible and a typical installation program is expected to be completed within 4 to 8 weeks. We’ll let you know as soon as we know more.

Student Banking

Student banking will recommence on Monday 10th May. Students bank books are to be handed in to their class teacher on Monday mornings. Information for new and returning families will be distributed this week.

Spelling Bee

The Premier’s Spelling Bee is a fun and educational way for students to engage in spelling, and includes a variety of activities to encourage all students to improve their vocabulary and spelling. Students in years 3 to 6 will compete against their classmates throughout the term, with finalists from each classroom competing against the other class finalists later in the term. I hope to see as many students participate and demonstrate their exceptional spelling skills.

The P&C meet on the 3rd Monday of the month from 6pm in the staffroom.

Term 2 meeting dates: Monday 17 May and 21 June

Communication

Llandilo Public School utilises the Skoolbag App for the distribution of newsletters, copies of notes, and reminders. Please download the app. If you are having any difficulty accessing the app, check that your device software is up-to-date. It was brought to my attention that families need to review their settings and update their child/children’s year level to receive notes related to specific year levels. The previous year’s grade level does not rollover. To avoid families missing notes, all notes will continue to be posted K-6.

K-2 Zoo Excursion – Friday 14 May 2021

K-2 students and staff are very excited about our first excursion for 2021 to Sydney Zoo! Thank you to those parents and carers who volunteered to assist on the day as helpers, it’s a fabulous opportunity to be involved.

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion

Stage 3 students have the opportunity to attend a three day excursion to Canberra from Wednesday 4th August – Friday 6 August, 2021. A $50 deposit is due by Friday 14 May. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact with your child’s class teacher before Friday 14th May.

Students who are unwell

A reminder that students who are unwell must not attend school, even with the mildest of symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste, and loss of smell. Students need to be symptom free and a negative COVID-19 test result must be received and sighted by the school prior to their return to school.

Students who do not undertake a COVID-19 test are not permitted to return to school for a 10-day period and they must be symptom free for at least 3 days prior to their return.

We thank you for your continued support.

NAPLAN 2021

Every year students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN (The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy).

These assessments occur over Weeks 4 and 5 of Term 2

(Tuesday 11 May - Friday 21 May). Students participate

in 4 assessments (Writing, Reading, Language

Conventions and Numeracy). Year 3 students will

complete their writing assessment on paper, however,

all other questions will be completed online.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please

contact your child’s teacher.

School Uniform

As the days are becoming cooler and extra layers are needed, it’s a timely reminder to write your child’s name on all belongings. We have endeavoured to return all lost property, however, in only a few weeks there is a large number of jumpers and jackets without names.

Our recent school photos highlighted the number of students who are wearing multicoloured shoes to school. Wearing full school uniform includes wearing black shoes.
