Did you hear about the teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put his boots on?

He asked for help and she could see why. With her pulling and him pushing, the boots still didn’t want to go on. When the second boot was on, she had worked up a sweat. She

almost whimpered when the little boy said, “Teacher, they’re on the wrong feet.” She looked, and sure

enough, they were. It wasn’t any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her

cool as together they worked to get the boots back on - this time on the right feet.

He then announced, “These aren’t my boots.” She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, “Why didn’t you say so?” like she wanted to do. Once again she

struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off.

He then said, “They’re my brother’s boots. My Mom made me wear them.” She didn’t know if she should laugh or cry.

She than mustered up the grace to wrestle the boots onto his feet again.

She said, “Now, where are your mittens?” He said,

“I stuffed them in the toes of my boots...”

An Evening of Improv with Colin Mochrie & Debra McGrath was originally scheduled for December 12 but Colin and Debra were snowed in at the Toronto airport and unable to make it to Lloydminster. The event was rescheduled for April 7 at 7:30pm at Vic Juba Community Theatre.

Colin Mochrie is an alumnus of Toronto’s famous Second City comedy troupe and is widely considered to be one of the leading improvisers in the world. In 2013, Colin Mochrie was named Canadian Comedy Person of the Year at the Canadian Comedy Awards. After nine years as a regular on the British impro-visation series Whose Line is it Anyway?, he became a regular on the American version hosted by Drew Carey, which ran for six years on ABC and three years on ABC Family. Colin appears regularly in film and television and was notably a cast member of CBC’s classic news spoof This Hour Has 22 Minutes for two seasons. With his wife, Debra McGrath, he produced, wrote and starred in the CBC show Getting Along Famously.

Deb McGrath, a graduate from Ryerson Theatre, honed her comedy skills at the famed Second City in Toronto where she met her husband Colin Mochrie. They moved to L.A. when she co-created a show called My Talk Show. Since then, Deb has done a myriad of TV, film, animation and ads. Her work of late has included, Little Mosque on the Prairie where she plays the Mayor, Single White Spenny, the voice of Winners, The Ron James Show. Deb created, co-wrote, produced and starred in CBC’s Getting Along Famously with her husband Colin. Together they have also played a husband and wife in Love Letters and Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town for CBC, and Living in my Car.

Tickets are $69. For tickets, contact the Box Office at 780-872-7400, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, or order your tickets online at vicjubatheatre.ca.

10 things about…. The placenta

1.The placenta is an organ that develops in your uterus during pregnancy. This structure provides oxygen and nutrients to your growing baby and removes waste products from your baby's blood. The placenta attaches to the wall of your uterus, and your baby's umbilical cord arises from it. In most pregnancies, the placenta attaches at the top or side of the uterus.

2.A baby can send stem cells through the placenta to heal its mother's organs if they are struggling, including the brain, liver, kidney and lung. The placenta also creates cells to protect the mother’s heart and fend off breast cancer.

3.The food you eat does not go directly to the baby. It is broken down into tiny particles of proteins and nutrients that cross the placenta. So if you are eating nutrient deprived food, you are not feeding your baby.

4.Babies do not breathe amniotic fluid. Oxygen also diffuses across the placenta into the fetal blood, traveling through the umbilical cord into the baby’s circulation.

5.It grows 32 miles of capillaries. These capillaries, buried into the uterine wall, draw off maternal blood, picking up oxygen and nutrients and eliminating waste. Every minute, about 20 percent of the mother’s blood flows through this organ.

6.When a pregnant woman is full term, her placenta will produce more oestrogen in a day than a non-pregnant woman would produce in three years.

7.The placenta is the fetus's only source of food, blood, oxygen, vitamins and nutrients. All of these vital resources are carried from placenta to fetus via the cord. These resources come from the mother's bloodstream, which is why a healthy nutritious balance of whole foods is so important during pregnancy. Iron is especially important because iron increases the hemoglobin level in the blood; hemoglobin carries oxygen in the body. Once the baby is born and the cord stops pulsing, that baby is no longer getting its oxygen from the placenta. When baby takes a first breath, the lungs begin to work and baby begins breathing on his or her own. In order for the baby to receive all the blood and oxygen required, the cord must stop pulsing before being cut.

8.Powdered placenta has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. In the postpartum period, placenta capsules can be used to: Balance hormones, increase energy, increase and enrich breast milk, decrease the baby blues and postpartum depression, decrease in lochia, postpartum bleeding, decrease iron deficiency, decrease insomnia or sleep disorders. No prescription, vitamin or herbal supplement can do what one placenta pill can. In layman’s terms, it brings the body back into balance, replenishing what was lost during childbirth. Women who take placenta capsules report fewer emotional issues, have more energy and tend to enjoy a faster, more pleasant postpartum recovery.

9.Placenta previa is condition where the placenta covers part or all of the cervix. A warning sign of this condition would be painless vaginal bleeding during the second and third trimester. About 1 in 250 pregnancies have this. Women with placenta previa will usually be delivered via caesarean section

10.Mothers of multiples with more than one placenta often experience higher levels of hormone-induced morning sickness and earlier detection of pregnancy through home pregnancy tests. They may also experience more intense hormonal fluctuations and mood swings. These hormones are also helpful for inducing labor when they are released by the placenta, a signal that baby is ready to be born.

GRANDMA’S WISDOM

At the feast of ego, everyone leaves hungry.

Worry ain’t nothing but a down-payment on Trouble that hasn’t come due.

Don’t apologize, do better.

Only trash stays in the streets

Stop robbin’ Peter to pay Paul

There’s nothing too hard for God.

The closet is the best prayer room.

If God is your Co-pilot - swap seats!

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

Never trouble trouble, till trouble troubles you.

You have a lifetime to work, but children are only young once.

The hand that rocks the cradle usually

is attached to someone who isn’t getting enough sleep

So what if Billy’s mom let him do it? If Billy’s mom let him jump off the Eifel Tower, would you want me to let you

do it too?

WHY MEN ARE GLAD THEY ARE MENPhone Conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.

You know stuff about military tanks.A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.

You can go to the bathroom without a support group. You don’t have to learn to spell a new last name.

You can leave the motel bed unmade. You can kill your own food.

You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.Everything on your face stays its original color.

You can quietly enjoy a car ride from the passenger’s seat.Three pairs of shoes are more than enough.

You don’t have to clean your apartment if the meter reader is coming. You can quietly watch a game with your buddy for hours without ever thinking:

“He must be mad at me.”Gray hair and wrinkles only add character.

Wedding dress - $2,000. Tuxedo rental - 75 bucks.You don’t mooch off other’s desserts.

You can drop by to see a friend without having to bring a little gift.If another guy shows up at the party in the same outfit, you just might become lifelong friends.

Your pals can be trusted never to trap you with “So, notice anything different?”You are not expected to know the names of more than five colors.

You don’t have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. You almost never have strap problems in public.

The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You don’t have to shave below your neck.

At least a few belches are expected and tolerated.Your belly usually hides your big hips.

One wallet and one pair of shoes, one color, all seasons. You can “do” your nails with a pocketknife.

You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.

IF YOU LOVE SOMETHING

If you love something, set it free.If it comes back, it will always be yours.

If it doesn’t come back, it was never yours to begin with.

But, if it just sits in your living room, messes up your stuff, eats your food,

uses your telephone, takes your moneyand doesn’t appear to realize that you had set it free...

...You either married it or gave birth to it.

Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to the teacher that they had a

flat tire.

Much to their relief she smiled and said, “Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece

of paper.”

Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said: “First Question: Which tire was flat?”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Francis Norton woke up Sunday morning and realizing it was an excep-tionally beautiful and sunny early spring day, decided he just had to play golf. So... he told the Associate Pastor that he was feeling sick and con-

vinced him to say Mass for him that day.

As soon as the Associate Pastor left the room, Father Norton headed out of town to a golf course about forty miles away. This way he knew he

wouldn’t accidentally meet anyone he knew from his parish.

Setting up on the first tee, he was alone. After all, it was Sunday morning and everyone else was in church! At about this time, Saint Peter leaned over to the Lord while looking down from the heavens and exclaimed,

“You’re not going to let him get away with this, are you?”

The Lord sighed, and said, “No, I guess not.”

Just then Father Norton hit the ball and it shot straight towards the pin, dropping just short of it, rolled up and fell into the hole. It WAS A 420

YARD HOLE IN ONE!

St. Peter was astonished. He looked at the Lord and asked, “Why did you let him do that?”

The Lord smiled and replied, “Who’s he going to tell?”

5 FACTS ABOUT FACEBOOK

1. You Can Check What Facebook TracksGo to Account Settings in the Home menu and from the General menu, click “Download a copy of your Facebook data.”

2. Check Default SettingsYou may not want to share your updates and other personal information with the whole world. But Facebook has kept the default setting as public. Go through the Privacy menu from the Account Settings page and review your settings to ensure you’re comfortable with the privacy levels.

3. Active Users Show Up in Feeds More OftenYou may not see every post from your friends, and only a fraction of your friends may see all your updates. Facebook wants users to see posts that will keep them on the site the longest, so it moves up the posts that are the most liked, shared, and commented on. 4. Browsing Habits are TrackedIf you are signed in to Facebook, it tracks you while you surf the Internet. Anytime you visit a page that has a Facebook Like or Share button, Facebook tracks that information.

5. Big News Pops Up in Feeds More OftenPosting major life events such as the birth of a baby, or your acceptance to grad school? Facebook will target those types of announcements by using something called natural language processing, and then Facebook makes sure they stick around in your friends’ news feeds until the next time they log on.
