Plan and Timings 2

Edinburgh provides the backdrop for the

fourth day. The event starts and ends at

the Sighthill North. First the route heads

north to follow the side of the river Forth

passing the Royal Yacht Britannia. After

heading down to Portobello Beach it heads

inland to do a circuit of Arthur’s Seat. Then

its back to Sighthill through the city centre

passing Holyrood Palace before heading

up to the Castle along the Royal Mile. In

the route back to Sighthill, the walkers will

also pass THE Port Hamilton office and

then Murrayfield Stadium on the way back

to Sighthill.

Stage 1 – Sighthill to Lauriston Castle 3

• 0.0 – Turn left out of Sighthill down

towards the tram line

• 0.1 – Turn right on Bankhead Drive

• 0.3 – Turn left at the roundabout (1st exit)

onto Meadow Place Road

• 1.2 – Straight on at the lights by the car

wash

• 1,4 – Straight in at the roundabout in

Corstorphine (2nd exit) passing the Bank

Of Scotland

• 2.2 – Turn right on Drum Brae Drive

following signs to Clermiston

• 2.5 – Turn left into Clermiston Drive

keeping the big grassy area on your right

• 3.0 – At the end, turn right on Queensferry

Road

• 3.1 – Take the footpath through the wall on

the left hand pavement and immediately

branch on the path to the right

• 3.3 – Turn left on the circular path around

Davidson’s Mains Park

• 3.4 – Turn left to leave the park and

immediately left again on East Barnton

Avenue

• 3.5 – Take next right on Barnton Avenue

• 3.6 – Take next left on Barnton Park

• 3.7 – Follow the rough round to the right

after the tennis club

• 3.8 – At the end, turn left and arrive at

Checkpoint

Stage 2 – Lauriston Castle to the

Royal Yacht Britannia4

• 0.0 – Head south from the castle entrance and take the first left on Lauriston Farm Road

• 0.4 – Straight over the roundabout at Silverknowles (2nd Exit)

• 1.2 – Straight over the roundabout at Muirhouse (2nd exit)

• 2.2 – Pass the Anchor Inn

• 2.4 – At the roundabout, head straight ahead (3rd exit) along Lower Granton Road to the left of

the Army Reserve building

• 3.3 – Pass the Old Chain Pier pub

• 4.0 – Take the footpath down to the left just after Chancelot Mill and follow it down into Melrose

Drive

• 4.2 – Checkpoint at the cruise liner terminal

• 0.0 – Continue along Melrose Drive

• 0.1 – At the roundabout, follow the path

between the 1st and 2nd exits and follow it

keeping the copse of trees on your right

• 0.3 – At the end of the path turn right on Ocean

Drive

• 0.7 – Straight over the mini roundabout (2nd

exit)

• 0.8 – At the roundabout by the casino, turn right

(3rd exit) onto Ocean Way

• 0.9 – At the lights, turn left on Baltic Street

• 2.4 – Opposite the Discount Golf Shop, fork left

on the Promenade and follow the coast east

• 3.2 – Checkpoint where the Promenade meets

Kings Road

• THIRTY MINUTE LUNCH BREAK

• 0.0 – Continue along the coastal path

• 0.4 – Turn right up Bath Street past the post box following signs to High Street Shops

• 0.6 – Straight ahead at the lights with Portobello High Street by Greggs

• 0.8 – Pass under the rail and road bridge

• 1.2 – Take the 2nd right at the lights into Mountcastle Drive North

• 1.8 – At the end, head straight across into Northfield Road

• 2.1 – At the end, Turn right onto the A1

• 2.4 – Turn left at the lights following the A1 City Centre sign

• 2.5 – At the lights, fork left into Meadowbank Terrace

• 2.8 – Checkpoint in the Arthur’s Seat car park on the left

• 0.0 – Turn left out of the car park and

fork left on Queens Drive

• 1.1 Pass the parking area

• 2.0 – Straight on at the roundabout (2nd

exit)

• 2.6 – Straight on at the roundabout (2nd

exit)

• 2.8 - Straight on at the roundabout (2nd

exit)

• 3.3 – Checkpoint back at the car park

Stage 6 – Arthur’s Seat to Murrayfield 8

• 0.0 – Continue back towards the A1

• 0.1 – Turn left at the roundabout onto Royal Park Terrace

• 0.5 – Pass under the railway into Brand Place

• 0.7 – Pass under the railway and turn left on Abbeyhill

• 0.9 – At the roundabout near the Abbey gates, take the 2nd exit and head up the Royal Mile

• 1.7 – At the roundabout by Edinburgh Castle, take the 2nd exit down Johnston Terrace

• 2.0 – Straight ahead at the roundabout (2nd exit) onto Spittal Street

• 2.2 – Turn right at the end onto Bread Street, by the Blue Blazer pub and then cross

Lothian Road at the lights into Morrison Street

• 2.4 – Pass the Port Hamilton Office

• 2.7 – Cross the lights and head down Clifton Terrace passed the Haymarket tram stop

• 3.4 – Pass under the bridge and turn left down Roseburn Street

• 3.7 – Checkpoint at Murrayfield Stadium entrance

• 0.0 – Continue on past Murrayfield

• 0.1 – Pass under two bridges and turn right on the main road

• 0.3 – Straight over the lights by Wickes onto Stevenson Road

• 0.6 – At the roundabout, turn left (1st exit)

• 0.7 – Turn right at the end of the park onto the A71 Gorgie Road

• 1.2 – Just before the Shell Petrol station, turn right onto Stevenson Drive

• 1.5 – At the roundabout, go straight on (2nd exit) continuing on Stenhouse Drive

• 2.0 – Cross over the lights with Saughton Road

• 2.5 – Straight on at the roundabout (2nd exit)

• 2.8 – Turn left into Bankhead Avenue

• 2.9 – Arrive at Sighthill
