FIXINThis Fixin rouge comes from vines planted between 1968 and 1984.Grapes are completely de-stemmed and only indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation. The wine was matured for 20 to 24 months in used Burgundian pièce. The resulting wine is a high-quality Pinot Noir, withvery good flavor expression and tannin structure.

FIXIN, CÔTE DE NUITSDomaine Gelin is the most important and prominent producerin the small, up and coming appellation of Fixin, located in the northern Côte de Nuits. Granted AOC status in 1936, Fixin is comprised of 222 acres, eight 1er crus, and represents one of the last great deals in Côte de Nuits red wines. In 2008, the Gelin family invested in a larger, more ecient winery, which was upgraded and ready for the 2011 harvest.

GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN LES SEUVRÉESGevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées is a lieu-dit lying directly below the Grand Cru of Charmes-Chambertin. It delivers classic Gevrey-Chambertin flavors of black fruit, licorice, violets, and spices with an underlying earthiness. 50-year-old vines bring unexpected richness and depth to this village-level bottling. The wine is a pure expression of its terroir thanks to its élevage in a combination of used oak and clay jars.

MOREY-SAINT-DENIS, CÔTE DE NUITSDomaine Michel Magnien has evolved into a Burgundy producer of a singular style and philosophy, and today is one of the few Demeter-certified Biodynamic estates in the region. Led by 5th generation Frédéric Magnien since 1993, who transitioned the family business from grape growers to winemakers. Frédéric has completely reinvented the house style at Magnien by using no new oak starting with the 2015 vintage, instead opting for hand-turned terra cotta jars.

VOSNE-ROMANÉEThis wine is a classic expression of the village with red and black fruit perfumed with spice and violet nuances. The wine shows aromas and flavors of red berries, herbs, and purple flowers. The palate is rich with ripe fruit and medium weight with bright acidity and fine tannins. Aging in 25% new Burgundian pièce brings notes of vanilla, toast, and baking spices.

VOSNE-ROMANÉE, CÔTE DE NUITSDomaine Jean Grivot is among the great names in Burgundian wine, now managed by the 5th and 6th generations of the family. Today, the vineyards, which are primarily located near the cellar in Vosne-Romanée, are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification,” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir. One of the first estates in the Côte d’Or to domaine bottle as a guarantee of authenticity and for quality control.

CHOREY-LÈS-BEAUNETollot-Beaut is proud of their village wine and produces this classic example from vines planted between 1992 and 1998. The wine spent 18 months in 25% new Burgundian pièce and displays aromas and flavors of red fruits and flowers coupled with a fresh minerality. Tollot-Beaut is bright and perfumed with red cherries and slightly coarse tannins.

CHOREY-LÈS-BEAUNE, CÔTE DE BEAUNEThe Tollot family represents a long lineage of winegrowers dating back to the late 1880s when François Tollot began planting vineyards in Chorey-lès-Beaune. In 1921, Tollot-Beaut became one of the first to bottle their wines under the domaine and started exporting their wines to the U.S. shortly thereafter. The wines of Tollot-Beaut are well-known for their serious but pleasing style across a range of appellations from Bourgogne to Grand Cru.

MEURSAULT LES CHEVALIÈRESLes Chevalières is a lieu-dit lying behind the town of Meursault in the valley leading towards Auxey-Duresses. It is one of several lieux-dits in Meursault that perform above their ocial “village” level status. The soil of Les Chevalières is very stony and the wine typically displays a strong mineral character, firm acidity, and piercing tension.

MEURSAULT, CÔTE DE BEAUNEXavier Monnot is a leading producer in Meursault whosewinemaking style emphasizes purity of fruit, elegance, and complexity. Xavier can trace his mother’s ancestors, the Monniers, back to 1723, with six generations of winegrowing. Xavier began replanting parcels with a combination of sélection massale from old vines and new clones, and updated the cellar with modern equipment. With the improvements in the vineyard and cellar, Xavier began bottling his wines under his own label in 2005.

PULIGNY-MONTRACHETFor some, Puligny-Montrachet is the ultimate white wine location on earth thanks to its perfect aspect and well-drained limestone soil. Alain Chavy’s Puligny-Montrachet comes from several parcels around Puligny from vines planted between 1965 and 1974. Parcels near Meursault have heavy clay soils, bringing body and power, while the gravel-limestone soils around Chassagne contribute elegance and minerality.

PULIGNY-MONTRACHET, CÔTE DE BEAUNEAlain Chavy produces restrained, structured, and long-lived white Burgundies from 17 acres of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet. In 2003, Alain established his own domaine, where he constructed a new underground cellar – one of the few in Puligny. He and his brother divided nearly a dozen plots of their father’s property, including some of Puligny’s top premier crus. Alain practices lutte raisonnée (“reasoned struggle”) in his vineyards, eschewing herbicides, and relies solely on plowing for weed control.

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHETBlain-Gagnard produces classic Chassagne-Montrachet from vines planted between 1932 and 2004. The vineyards are farmed by lutte raisonnée. Jean-Marc believes in minimal oak contact to retain bright fruit and purity of terroir; therefore only 10-20% of the wine is aged in new Burgundian pièce, resulting in a wine that is tense with acidity, with crisp apple and citrus flavors.

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET, CÔTE DE BEAUNEDomaine Blain-Gagnard was formed in 1980 when Jean-Marc Blain (a Sancerrois) married Claudine Gagnard (of Domaine Gagnard-Delagrange). The couple runs this venerable domaine with the help of her son Marc-Antonin (of Domaine Blain Sœur et Frère). Jean-Marc believes strongly in the connection between the complex geology of the region and the character of the wines. He’s passionate and knowledgeable about the mineral content of the soils and how dierences in the vineyards’ soils shape his wines.

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET LA BOUDRIOTTE 1ER CRUGagnard-Delagrange makes nine barrels of La Boudriotte, blending from old vines from six individual lieux-dits of this gently sloping, east-facing vineyard. La Boudriotte has weight, depth, and richness, but also elegant finesse. Aromas and flavors of yellow apples, lemons, and minerals are accompanied by notes of vanilla and toast thanks to aging in 20% new Burgundian pièce.

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET, CÔTE DE BEAUNEDomaine Gagnard-Delagrange was created in 1959 with the marriage of Jacques Gagnard to Marie-Josèphe Delagrange. After the death of Jacques Gagnard in 2009, the domaine retained 7.4 acres of vineyards and continues to be run by Jacques’s widow, Marie-Josèphe, and her grandson, Marc-Antonin Blain (of Domaine Blain Sœur et Frère). Marc-Antonin worked in the cellar alongside Jacques for three years before his grandfather’s death and learned the traditional style that Gagnard-Delagrange is known for.

MONTAGNY LES BASSETS 1ER CRUThis is the flagship wine of the domaine. While the lower portion of the vineyard is classified as village, the 5.8 acre upper portion is classifiedas premier cru, and belongs entirely to Laurent Cognard. Aged in a combination of 10% new 228L Burgundian pièce and 500L puncheons, this minimizes the oak influence, allowing the fresh fruit expression and minerality of the wine to take center stage.

MONTAGNY, CÔTE CHALONNAISEAlthough the Cognard family has been growing grapes for decades, Laurent Cognard is the first in his family to vinify wines. With weathered limestone and clay soils similar to those foundin the Côte d'Or, the Côte Chalonnaise is quickly building a reputation for delivering exceptional values. To capture the fresh fruit expression and minerality of his wines, Laurent prefers to use a combination of large and small barrels for aging, with minimal new oak.

POUILLY-FUISSÉPouilly-Fuissé is the most famous appellation of the Mâconnais where Chardonnay enjoys limestone-rich clay and varied terrain. This Pouilly-Fuissé comes from 54 acres in three villages: Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, and Vergisson. Half of the cuvée is fermented and aged in 228L Burgundianpièce with the remainder in stainless-steel tanks. Pouilly-Fuissé is afull-bodied wine of rich and opulent flavors and texture.

SAINT-VÉRANSaint-Véran is an appellation of sandy, limestone-mixed soils and is divided into two areas separated by the vineyards of Pouilly-Fuisse. Half of the cuvée is fermented and aged in 228L Burgundian pièce with the remainder in stainless steel tanks. This Saint-Véran shows floral aromas and a touch of “pierre à fusil,” the mineral quality that typifies many white Burgundies.

POUILLY-FUISSÉ, MÂCONNAISThe Burriers have been a prominent winegrowing family in southern Burgundy since the 15th Century and have owned Château de Beauregard in Pouilly-Fuissé for six generations. The current owner and winemaker, Frédéric-Marc Burrier, has been one of the leading advocates for improving quality and international recognition for the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Sincethe 1990’s, Frédéric has been focused on identifying the best single-vineyard sites and advocating for elevated premier cru status for the region’s best climats.

CÔTE DE BROUILLY LES JUMEAUXCôte de Brouilly Les Jumeaux (“the twins”) is from 3.7 acres of vines planted in 1954, 1956, and 1996. The vines sit midway up the slope of Mont Brouilly where they grow in a unique soil of blue granite, pink clay, and sand. Les Jumeaux shows a balance between power, structure, and length, while maintaining a gentle and velvety palate.

BROUILLY, BEAUJOLAISMarc-Antonin and Lucie grew up in their family domaine, Domaine Blain-Gagnard in Chassagne-Montrachet, and are part of the 5th generation of wine producers in their family. Domaine Blain was founded in 2014 when the siblings acquired 14 acres of vineyards planted with old vines (50+ years old) on the slopes of Mont Brouilly in Beaujolais. While Brouilly is the largest cru covering20% of the Beaujolais area, the Côte de Brouilly is a much smaller volcanic slope known for producing more structured wines.
